I loved this hotel! It's a few streets away from Plaza Mayor in one direction and Gran Via in the other. Palacio del Cibeles, Museo Thyssen, Museo del Prado, and Parque del Buen Retiro are all a short walk from the hotel, so it's perfect for exploring. Oh, and the hotel is right in Puerta del Sol so there are...

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel has a fabulous location. Which must be it's main attraction. We have a 5th floor room with a balcony, which would be good good if you were visiting in the spring or summer. The room was small bit comfortably furnished & the bathroom was good. All in all I would recommend for...

We stayed in the Moderno twice: four nights on the second floor at the beginning of our two-week trip and two nights in a larger room on the seventh floor at the end of the trip. Both rooms were very quiet – no noise problems at all. The hotel arranged the reasonably-priced ride service from/to the airport on both occasions....

The most disappointed I had ever been from a European hotel In short – Pro Comfortable bad Good location Helpful staff Noise proof doors Con Tiny hotel, crowded corridors, the room is so small it was impossible to leave the mid size suitcase open. Damp corridors, sometimes the light sensors failed to work. Bad smell in the room & bathroom...

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your experience about you stay with us. On a positive note, we are pleased to read that you found your bed comfortable, our staff helpful and enjoyed our central location. However, we are very disappointed that we did not meet your expectations and would like to offer you some explanations. We very much regret...

Central location close to everything. A few steps out the front door and you are in the heart of Puerta del Sol. Very clean hotel, and excellent responsive staff. We had a "triple" room on 4th floor. Very very small elevators but nice stairway. We took advantage of the ride service to the airport and were picked up right at...

Hotel Moderno is conveniently location in Puerto del Sol near tons of shopping, restaurants and the metro. Staff was helpful and spoke English. Working (albeit small) elevator. Free use of computer to print out boarding passes.

My bed was literally 2 inches from the elevator shaft. The noise lasted all day and until the wee hours of the morning. Also there is little to no soundproofing between the rooms - for example I could hear the child in the room upstairs getting a bath by the parent(s). Being on the courtyard side of the building at...

The hotel was placed in the most convenient spot which made access to train stations and shops easy and quick. Overall the room was found in a good condition and was very comfortable. I had a good nights sleep and the staff very friendly and approachable.

I stayed here for the last 5 days of my study abroad trip with 19 other students. You can't beat the location- it is right in the heart of Madrid and close to many good restaurants, the metro, and the San Miguel Food Market (you must go here). It is also close to several souvenir and gelato shops. The rooms...

Stayed here for 3 nights and have to say like most of the reviews are saying the location is brilliant. Right beside the Sol metro station and within walking distance of all the major attractions like the Prado, Royal Palace, Plaza de Mayor ect. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff on reception were nice. It was our...

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

“We had room 613 which has an outlook over the Placa del Sol, which can be a bit noisy but it has an electric Shutter which really cut down the noise at night, we were able to sleep OK. so it is worth having a room on this side of the hotel”
