The place is perfect for nyt life and sight seeing. It's just that u can hear the noise from outside and from the other rooms. Cleanliness is okay, but I find the room really cold, no heater. Receptionist are friendly and nice. It's also near train station.

Room was exceptionally small, bathroom taking the small size to the extreme. When sitting on the toilet, feet reach the sink... Most of the staff weren't kind. Only pro is location - just next to Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel.

We stayed there 4-7 December in a large group of guys and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Location of the Hostal could not have been better with the bustling market just a couple of minutes away and a nice square to chill out with a cold beer. Room we had was basic but more than adequate for...

We stayed at this hostel for 6 nights Sept/Oct 2015. It was a great location, every thing was very close by. The staff were friendly and helpful. And the room was clean. It proved to be quieter than we expected! We would defiantly stay here on any return to Madrid.

After looking at many hostals we chose this one, and very good it is. Not to far away from the metro and there are hundreds of bars and restaurants in the area. Brilliant location right beside plaza mayor , the rooms are small but clean, the staff are friendly and the location is perfect .

Been here on May of this year. It is a nice and clean hotel and very cheap. We paid only £45 for one night. It was just 2 min walking away from their famous market and if you want to go around the city and see the views, you don't have to take any train or bus. Everything was around...

I stayed at this Hostal during the last week of July, 2015. Great location. Walk out the door, across the street and one enters the Plaza Mayor (Old Town). Despite overlooking the street, it was not noisy and we had a small balcony to people watch. At the end of the block is the indoor market "Mercado San Miguel". For...

We have just spent a long weekend staying here and it was lovely. It is so central, next to so many wonderful restaurants and the indoor market and just off the Plaza Major. The rooms differ in size depending on what you want but they are all extremely clean and comfortable. We had a twin which had a small balcony....

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
