I was surprised by how quite this hotsel is given its location. It has a very good AC, Hot and cold water with good pressure , TV, and Free WIFI. It is right in the heart of Madrid. I think it is worth its price. Top Tip: Hostal Victoria 2 is only 15-20 meters away from Victoria 1. Victoria 2... More

Hard to find the reception at first but the hostel itself was in a perfect location - Right in the heart of Madrid! Didn't find it difficult to navigate around public transport. I stayed for 3 nights and didn't have a problem. The room was clean and was serviced daily. The gentlemen behind the reception desk didn't speak much English... More

For what it cost me I was a little worried after I had looked at some of the reviews on here, on first arriving and walking through the door it looked a little daunting and as you walk up the old spiral staircase your unsure what's going to meet you when you get there(I would say a sign or 2... Really surprised by the positive reviews beflow - we had a terrible time when we stayed here! We were actually pretty scared and if we have afforded to leave and stay somewhere else immediately we would have. Everything was dirty/broken. There was graffiti on the stairwell and dodgy characters smoking in the lobby and running up and down the stairs... More

As I said in another review, I wish the Spanish tourist authorities would define “hostal” because I stayed in three recently with very different standarrds – one was a fire trap with no lift, shared WC, shower with no privacy or maid service, while another was pretty good and this one was the best of all. It is only a... More

To check in at Hostal Victoria II (HV2) was somewhat cumbersome for we had to go to Hostal Victoria I (HV1), a few doors away. (We accidentally went to Hostal Pretoria which is in the same building). We found the HV1 staff to be very nice. Once we got the card key we went to the front door of HV2... More

Spent 4 nights. 15 minutes walk from everything. I took a room with balcony, cool views down on to Puerta del Sol. Room smallish but super clean, comfortable, well-appointed. Friendly staff, helpful. Free wifi worked perfectly. Great shower. Fresh towels. There was a heater and a/c, but needed neither. I'll be back.

I've been in this hostel with a friend of mine for our birthdays. The hostel is in a very strategic position, 20 meters far from Puerta del Sol, right in the Centre of Madrid. You can move around and visit all Madrid most famous places by walking. The rooms are little but clean and comfortable, with the bathroom also. We... More

I've spent 2 nights in this hostal with two friends. The location is great, right in "puerta del sol". The room was clean and comfy. All the staff is very kind and always available. I would reccomend it for your madrid trip!

The remarkable point about this hotel is location. The building is not appealing, the check in must be done in a building next door and no breakfast is provided. However, the room, though small, had a nice view and was very clean, as was the bathroom. Also, the staff were helpful. So if you are only looking for an unbeatable... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
