It was like staying in someone's house, complete with stairs. It's on the 3rd floor bit the manager was so nice and carried my luggage up for me. It's really close to a Metro stop and you can easily walk to the Prado , Atocha train station, and Reina Sofia. The room was small but very clean and really a...

The manager was very nice, clen rooms with air con and TV. Pension on third floor- 70 slippery wooden steps up, and 70 steps down. Room very ++ basic. Shower extremely basic. Room very small- hard to get around. Pension in great spot, easy walking distance to everywhere.

Perfect for a few days visiting Madrid. There was air conditioning - essential for Madrid in July! The man who greeted us and checked us in was very helpful and gave us tips for the local area. Not far from Plaza de Santa Ana and plenty of bars and restaurants. Room was compact but fine for a few nights with...

We spent 3 nights in total at Pension Magdalena and it turned out to be great value for money. The room was big and very clean, and the owner helped us take our luggage up the stairs (there is no lift but to be honest, it's an easy climb to the 3rd floor). He was very friendly, and also showed...

Centrally located, within walking distance to major attractions. The room was clean, towels were changed every day. The room was small but it was worth the money. Bathroom was adequate size. Bed was a good size. However the window was missing, only a tiny window under the ceiling. Still didnt spoil the stay. Wifi was great. Hotel is located on...

The location is great - walkable distance from train station and very close to a metro station. After a long day of walking though, the last thing you want to do is climb 4 flights of rickety stairs to your room. The staff was friendly, but we only saw one employee at our time of check-in (we stayed 3 nights)...

Me and my boyfriend just spent 4 days in this fantastic City and we are really satisfied with the place where we slept. This pension is near the very centre of Madrid (Puerta del Sol is less than 10 minutes walking); we paid €30/night a double with bathroom and air conditioning. Room was cleaned (and towels changed) daily during our staying, as in a normal hotel. The staff has been helpful and nice (a smile is always the best of introductions), although I...

I must admit I was impressed. May not look so good from the outside but the inside was impeccable. Clean, cheap, central located, welcoming and helpful staff. I spent 3 nights with my gf, they cleaned the room every day, gave us a map of the city, hairdryer, clean towels, shampoo etc. Fast and free wifi. 15 min walk from...

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
