This place gives you the chance to enjoy the city of Madrid with all of its cafes, bars, restaurants and shops placed directly on Gran Via. With its pool area on the roof its perfect if you need to cool down after a warm day or just to have a morning swim. Only 3 stars from me, since there is... More

This hotel was centrally located and offered spacious rooms for a family of four. Not too many hotels in the city offer rooms for four, so we were thrilled to find this one! The rooms are very clean and the breakfast buffet was pleasant. The best feature of this hotel was it's location! It was close to all attractions and... More

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a Riviera tour and didn't know what to expect as reviews on here are very mixed. We're in the "delighted with the hotel" camp. Reception was cheerful and efficient and they tried to be helpful in any way they could. Facilities were much as you'd expect for this type of hotel... More

The hotel is overpriced for what it offers. The good bits are it's central, clean, very comfortable beds. Less positive is the noise from the busy road it's on, small rooms, tiny rooftop pool, noisy and inefficient aircon and people can smoke in the rooms which means they smell of stale smoke. We weren't offered the option of a non... More

A guest injured and minimal response? We picked this hotel based on good reviews and the fact that a pool was included. Despite a very promising reception by staff on our arrival, we have spent an exceptionally frustrating two hours beside the closed pool, watching the deck be repaired after a young woman actually FELL through the collapsed pool deck.... As so many other reveiwers have already said, this hotel is located in the middle of the Gran Via. We arrived 2 hours before we could check in so the staff kindly allowed us to leave our luggage in a storage room behind the reception. Me and my father had separate rooms for two nights, he had room 403 which... More

I booked a suite at this hotel some 11 months in advance but had to change the booking with 9 months notice.... unfortunately the booking agency messed everything up.... and, you guessed it, arrived at the hotel to find NO ROOM!!! I wont mention their name.... but if you book 10 nights you get one free! Jose, on reception was... More

Hotel is quite dirty, run down and needs significant repair - rooms are stuffy and paint was dripping off the walls. Breakfast area was quite dirty too.. Suggest not staying here unless it is pre-booked from years before and extremely cheap. I made a last minute booking unfortunatly.

We had a mini suite with a "tub on the terrace" - it looked ok on the internet - but everything was "80 style" and worn out - including the air-condition! Definitely not worth the money! We even changed room the first night due to the fact that we got no aircon chill - but the same experience again in... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
