as in the title unfortunately I had to cancel my stay in this Hostal and I did it few days before (the policy is that you have to do it 48 h before). They haven't responded to my cancelation email and they charged my cradit card anyway. I called them and they told me that I just need to send... More

The woman who runs this hostal is a nightmare. She is rude, angry, miserable and aggressive if you complain or disagree with anything. Also, don't try to drop off your luggage before noon or she will tell you how you're inconveniencing her. The family lives in the hostal as well, so if you enjoy loud arguing, yelling and a tv... The main problem is there are no windows in the rooms! It is like sleep in the tomb. There is no possibility how to air the room. I would never booked the room there if I knew about it. Do not believe the pictures they provide on their web pages!!! There is also no kitchen there and the management (owners... More

The location is good, our room and the bathroom was clean, but our room and the other part of the common place has no window, a special stinky, sweaty air circulate everywhere. The worst thing is: you can drop in a noisy family life during your vacation if you stay at Bahia hostel. Maria, the wife is always angry, she... More

I didn't get the girls name, and didn't stay long enough to find out. First off she fouled our room request, as I had stayed there before and new the room I wanted. The room she gave us had no windows etc. She was rude and angry. Luckily she refunded our money so we simply walked down the road to... More

Very well located, close to Puerta del sol, with very friendly and helpfull staff. I really enjoy this place and have been there 3 times and plan to keep on staying there whenever I visit Madrid. It is clean, has nice beds and you can really feel at home :-)

Worth it for the location - great value in fact - it's stones throw from the action, but otherwise it isn't well maintained. The rooms aren't bad, nice beds, plus sinks inside with lots of storage space. We never had any bad interactions with the staff here, but heard some other bad ones. Quiet some nights, but it depended on... More

The location is perfect and if you love hotel rooms without windows or aircon and a rude manager who shout day and night, this hotel is just for you.

We arrived and booked for four nights, the 'manager' (she lives in the hostal) is very rude, altough you wouldn't think so at first! she shouts the whole day and doesn't treat you like a guest. You can't sleep out since she's always yelling.. furthermore some rooms have no window so that's ashame. the price is cheap, but for some... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
