Hostal on 7th floor, so not for people who don't like heights. Nice clean room. Friendly staff. Breakfast was included which was a 5 min walk away in a large coffee shop. The staff there could do with some lessons in friendliness. Seemed a little annoyed by vouchers from hotel. Overall a nice place to stay in a great location...

Basic but spacious room with a balcony opening onto the pedestrian street. The location is perfect, right next to Gran Via metro station and a two minute walk to Sol. It is a bit noisy at night but that's what you get in the city centre - if you want peace and quiet don't expect to find it in the...

We were told by our Spanish friends only after we arrived that Calle Montera was actually the red light district. This got us pretty amused. Still, we felt safe on the street at night. Our room faced Gran Via and there was constant noise from vehicular and human traffic till 3-4am daily. The wifi broke down 3 out of the...

The room was actually really good for a hostel. Staff didn't really show up except for check in and check out, but they were also nice. I would stay there again, it is really well located and also very confortable.

This hostel was exactly what I expected and more. The location was PERFECT, staff was incredibly kind, and the room comfortable. When I first booked this hostel, the pictures made me think that the interior would be old and outdated. Boy was I wrong! When we arrived, the room looked exactly how I expected but brand new. The shower looked...

The room was itself was well presented to a good standard with a compact toilet and shower area, both very clean. Each day the room...

The room was clean with two small beds and a clean toilet and shower. The location is the best thing about this hostal with the heart of the city being 2 minutes walk away and it is in a central location for most of the city's tourist hot spots. The staff were very helpful and friendly and I will be...

The room was clean, location was great to see the city, having your breakfast down the street in a restaurant was not the best would have been better if it was closer, the staff was great to deal with and gave out good advise as to where to go and see.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
