Lots of bad reviews for this hotel, just got back from 3 nights in the Cannon, yer it’s rough around the edges but the cheapest your get in Gibralter and the people that run are lovely so don’t knock it
Where do I start with this one... I've stayed in basic places before and that's not a problem, I've stayed in places which could do with a lick of paint, or where the furniture is a bit tired but this really beats them all. We were staying for four nights. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and walked into the reception/bar/kitchen through a cloud of smoke, had a friendly enough greeting and were pointed in the direction of our room. Upon entering my husband and I just looked at each other with a look of 'you've got to be kidding!' The room was musty and smelling like the window hadn't been opened in months. It was dark and the ceiling and walls had cobwebs over them, the ceiling had flaking paint, bubbles and marks where leaks have been and was generally poorly decorated - some parts had been repainted, others hadn't and there was paint all over the skirting and on the picture frames. The floor was dirty where it hadn't been cleaned properly and there were random blobs of dirt where something, sometime had been spilt. The furniture, skirting and dado rail were all covered in dust and don't even start with the grime on the light switch. It was vile. The beds were a bit bizarre where they had the headboard from a previous solid bed just resting against the wall with another bed frame (with no headboard) in front. The knobs from the headboard had long gone but you could see the shabby remains of where it had tried to be stuck back on. The bedding looked pretty clean although my husbands pillow was stained. In all fairness the bed was comfortable and did offer a good night sleep, I'll give them that! The bathroom wasn't much better, the sink and toilet were clean which was nice. There were cobwebs around the bathroom, thick limescale on the shelf in the shower, the shower glass was dirty but I think the two which really took the biscuit were the two toothbrush/rinsing glasses which had thick toothpaste scub from previous guests and the absolutely filthy shower mat. I'm so glad I had flip flops. It looked as though it had mud on it but when looking closely it was just build up of hair, dirt and dust. Disgusting. I guess at least the shower had jets in it, so I was looking forward to that... (they didn't work unsurprisingly!) Outside our room was the clean bedding and towel cupboard which was left open most days, the bedding just shoved in on the shelves and on the floor. The next morning we went down for breakfast and that was a basic fry up, nothing to complain about there food wise. As with most things in the hotel, the sides were grubby, the spoons and glasses could have done with another clean. After breakfast we went upstairs and got ready at a leisurely pace and then went to head out about an hour later noticing all of the guests dirty plates were still on the tables while the staff member was sat around smoking. We had a leaky boiler which we reported and that got sorted the same day, I overheard another guest saying their boiler was doing the same. The bed was made each day and the towels were replaced most days which was a little unnecessary, I prefer the 'put the towels in the shower if it needs replacing' style, but I know some people like clean daily. Throughout our stay, even upon check out, we constantly saw the same member of staff sat around smoking, or having loud personal conversations on the phone. If they had just put down the cigarette for an hour and done some cleaning it would have made a huge difference. We were never asked how our stay was or if everything was okay, even when we checked out. It really did leave a sour taste in our mouths and affected our stay in Gibraltar as although we don't often spend that much time in the rooms when we are away but because we didn't want to be in the room longer than needed, we didn't have anywhere to just chill out in particular on the days when it was cold and windy we just wanted a place to warm up and relax for an hour without having to sit in another bar/coffee shop. I can honestly say we will not be returning and would rather pay double to stay somewhere else.…
We stayed for one night, thank goodness. The room was very basic, shower was serviceable, breakfast was very mediocre, location was excellent. Very run-down hotel, I’d look elsewhere. Also, the WiFi didn’t reach to our room, and barely made it to the hallway outside our room.
Stayed here for 4 nights in October. Have to say there are a lot of negative comments about this place but don't beleven them. Yes it's nothing special but it's clean, comfortable, and right in the centre of town. It's a well run little hotel with no frills attached but I would certainly return to it and would certainly recommend it.

I stayed over again with my 2 oldest sons for the MTV festival. clean rooms, great service , lovely breakfast and most of all centre of town. you cannot ask for any more. this is a gem on the rock. second stay and wen I return I will always stay here. friendly family run hotel.
