Detailed Reviews
Liz and Tony have to be the most friendly hosts you are likely to come across. They bend over backwards to be helpful and accommodating. Their flat is spotlessly clean, comfortable and in a perfect location for visiting all the places you have on your list. Be prepared to add more places with the recommendations from Liz and Tony. They have created an oasis of greenery out of what could be a non descript concrete passage. There is also a roof terrace which you are free to enjoy. The flat is just as you see it in the photos, beautifully decorated. We would definitely go again, everything about our stay was perfect

Great apartment, perfect location. Next to metro with Bakeries for breakfast and restaurants at walking distance. Very quiet, very clean and all amenities provided.
Great hosts who provided invaluable information for our first day. Hope to stay here again.

It was blind luck that led me to The Patio, but you can't do better in my book. The rooms are comfortable, the neighborhood is peaceful and the hosts Tony & Liz are knowledgeable, sharing and caring! and breakfast was light and deliceous. A metro stop is directly across the street which puts ALL of Barcelona within reach of a 1Euro ticket and a 5 to10 minute ride, but when you are done with the hustle and bustle and tourist clutter, you can return to the Patio and a quiet working class city neighborhood.
On our 2nd pass through Barcelona we got to sample their off-site apartments (1 block away) the Flat and the the Loft. These are also really nicely done up, perfect for the truly independent traveler. The only down-side to these is that you are no longer the next door house guest of Liz & Tony, and breakfast is up to you!
At the Patio, it was super to be under Liz & Tony's wing when we first arrived. Later after we had 'fledged' we enjoyed being in lodgings that were part of the city and the real Barcelona.

My wife and I stayed in The Patio for three nights in September this year. We were disappointed with the service provided by the hosts.
First, on our arrival, expecting to be accommodated in a double room , we were told we would be in the room containing two single beds .(As shown in the photo above) When we questioned this we were told we had booked that room as it was allocate to a couple who were arriving later . Not having copies of the emails recording our booking we were obliged to accept the decision. We thought we had booked the room with a double bed but did not have copies of the email exchanges relating to our booking. We have now found that the booking form sent to us by the hosts in July. It referred to "Accommodation for 2 people in a double room". We are at a loss to understand why the hosts decided not to honour this agreement . Two single beds in a room do not constitute a "double room".
Second, the provision of breakfast each morning was devoid of personal service. We were required to fend for ourselves. Nothing was actually served to us by the hosts. We were obliged to obtain milk, butter and yogurt from the fridge in the breakfast room and to make our own toast .(One morning we found the milk had iced over and the butter was rock hard as the door of the ice box in the fridge had been left open.) Coffee was provided in an insulated jug which had been left on the table at least 20-30 minutes before the time we had asked for breakfast to be "served". It was not hot coffee. We did not expect intrusive, fawning attention by accommodation hosts but this was singularly deficient breakfast service.
The Patio is a pleasant enough establishment. It is not high class, however. The shared bathroom is a negative feature , but we were aware of that. The roof-top patio is a nice feature which we took advantage of. We think the hosts need to review their operation and consider improving their meal service in particular.

Tony and Elizabeth are very very nice and very helpful. I stayed at the double bed room for 3 nights. Breakfast was good too. I wish they would allow people to use the kitchen, but that's another story. I think the hostel is directed to english speaking people, since Liz is british so she can help them out with tips a lot . Anyway, if you're looking for a nice (but not necessarily cheap) place to stay in an OK location -the subway station is right across the street from the Patio- the patio is a good choice.

This is a hard review to write. Our stay at The Patio was a bit of a comedy of errors and I don't think it's fair to hold it against the owners. The B&B itself is wonderful. Comfy beds, good location, great price and delicious breakfast. The patio upstairs was perfect for lounging around with a bottle of wine.
The downside was that the owners "forgot" we were arriving. They were not home and not answering their phones when we dragged our bags to the door. We sat for almost 2 hours on the street before they realised what had happened.
Also the owners were very untrusting of guests. They don't let you used the kitchen, in fact, after giving you your keys they dissappear into the main part of the house and lock the door behind them!
After so many warm B&B experiences it was a bit of a shock. I guess it's a city hotel dressed up as a B&B.

+1
The apartment is located in the centre of the city. However, it too close to Entença metro station. Also, many restaurants are within short walking distance, plus couple of groceries are nearby.
Tony & Liz who own and manage the apartment and so helpful and respond quickly to any queries.
The apartment is spacious and clean. Although the apartment is self-catering, the kitchen is well-equipped and has milk, cereals, coffee, tea, salt and sugar.
There is about 100 meter walking from the main road to the apartment, as it is located within a compound.

We recently enjoyed 4 nights with Liz & Tony at the Patio - a great base for our Barcelona exploration. Liz provided a warm welcome, and just the right amount of help & advice for getting around and enjoying her adopted city.
The rooms and facilities are immaculately cared for and presented, with many touches that made the Patio a special haven.
The proximity to transport made it easy for all of our getting around, and the L'Eixample area felt like a good place to be.

That is what I asked myself while staying there. When my sister and I arrived, Tony met us at the door—good thing because it is a walk down the hall and then a walk down a “patio”/outside walkway (he explained there is a light with a timer to turn on at night—problem was—it did not stay on long enough so we used our phone lights. Tony showed us the place. There was a bill due on arrival on the table which read 360 when it should have been 280. When I told him, he said, yes, he noticed it after he had printed it. But he didn’t change it…hmmmmm. Although we told Tony we had been on a 4 hour tour of the city, he proceeded to take out a map and talk and talk. He then told us he would set the table later and serve breakfast at 8AM. We stopped him finally saying we wanted to go to lunch, he recommended a restaurant—then called it, said they didn’t answer, but try it because there was another one next to it. Both were closed.
Cleanliness is the most important part of a B&B. Attached is a picture of the shower curtain—mold and dirt and a picture of the bottom of my socks after walking on the floor for a half hour. Besides not being clean, it was hot and wee were not offered remote for a/c. One bedroom had a window, which I opened but the other room did not so it stayed warm. The beds were very hard/old (felt springs) and pillow thin.
After several long days, we decided to go to bed at 9PM. I was awoken with noises, which was Tony- setting the table!!! At 7:30, noises again—he was bringing in breakfast. It consisted of a small pot of coffee, two eggs, two pieces of cheese and ham—and, the best part: stale, cold croissant and mini muffin.
Liz came in and proceeded to tell my sister we needed to get on tour bus to see the city. When she told her we were going to the beach, Liz made a face. Maybe they get a kick-back? We enjoyed walking the promenade at the beach and had a lovely lunch looking at the sea. She left before we ask her where to get euros for dollars, so asked Tony. He sent us to a bank, which said they did not do exchanges so we were on our own searching until we found one.
After all the B&Bs I have stayed in, this one is one of the worst. Not clean, no choice of when we wanted breakfast, a sad breakfast, no helpful advice about the city.

Response from Elizabeth A, Owner at The Patio Barcelona
Responded Apr 12, 2016
These guests ( two sisters) came in November 2015 and after several months the feeling of frustration has been growing. This review is not a reflection of our business. We pride ourselves in giving time and attention to our guests and I think this is reflected in our excellent reviews over the years. With only two rooms we like to think that the personal touch is especially important. I don't know why they have decided to leave this review. They stayed for 2 nights and the comments they have made do not reflect reality. When they arrived, the shower curtain was clean. The photograph which they have included in the review is a complete mystery to me.

The Patio is just across the street from a metro station and only a few blocks from the train station in Barcelona. Even though it is not in the middle of the tourist "La Rambla" area you can access everything by metro and it's within walking distance of several sites. The neighborhood and B&B are very quiet and peaceful. Our host and hostess were very helpful with suggestions and information for dining and sightseeing. The breakfasts were delicious and the presentation was lovely. Our dining room was also a mini-living room and the Wi-Fi was excellent. The Patio actually has a patio full of wonderful plants. Liz went out of her way to accommodate us and her followup was really appreciated. I wouldn't think of staying any place else in the future.
