Lovely hotel with a great location. The elevator in the building looks original to the building and takes you back in time. The hotel is located on 2 very useful metro lines so getting anywhere was easy. Our room set up was thoughtful: large shower, sink located in the room, outside the bathroom, desk and bed area were separated by a curtain. The staff were also really nice.

Our ten-day stay at Casa Mathilda couldn’t have been more pleasurable. Owner-manager Assumpta Baldó and her team – with very special kudos to Patricia, our guardian angel – make sure that guests feel at home and that’s exactly how my wife and I felt. It is a charming, inviting bed and breakfast that welcomes you as if you’re arriving at your own place: comfortable (quiet!) rooms with a mini-fridge and a large flat-screen TV, a nice common area (with some tables for your morning meal, some couches, and a lovely outside terrace), and all the careful, dedicated attention a guest could dream of. You simply enjoy going back to Casa Mathilda after a long day exploring vibrant Barcelona. Or you can take a brief respite from tapas and cavas just stretching in their extremely inviting beds, slipping into a quick, invigorating siesta while listening to the kids playing at neighboring St. Nicholas School. The location itself – in the best part of the Eixample district – is priceless. The bed and breakfast is close to great restaurants (take your pick!) and attractions (Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, Casa Batló and St Pau Recinte Modernista are all just a short walk away). Can’t wait to go back there on our next visit to Barcelona and highly recommend it.

Even though we travelled during Covid, and the hotel was, as a result, not able to serve breakfast in the way it normally would ( we received a breakfast box instead of a buffet breakfast), I'd thoroughly recommend Casa Mathilda. Family run, small and intimate. Located in a smart, multi-use building in the Eixample district of the city. Elegant, well proportioned public spaces and a lovely outdoor terrace which can be accessed from the breakfast/dining area. The rooms are comfortable and serviced daily. Nice shower. Our room had a lovely window seat, set in a bay, over-looking the street. Everywhere is walkable, and even though this hotel is not situated right in the touristic heart of the city, it is easy to walk there, and has the advantage of being adjacent to the many bars, restaurants and shops of the more bohemian, trendy, Gracia neighbourhood too. I'd definitely stay here again, and would definitely recommend it for a more authentic experience of the city away from the touristic crowds.

Very comfortable room with everything you need, fantastic to have access to the dining area and outdoor terrace. Staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Such a great location - easy walk to La Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo, Casa Mila. Multitude of food options on each nearby block, handy supermarket on corner and superb coffee on the corner. Would stay again when next in Barcelona.

We stayed at Casa Mathilda 4 days/5 nights in Sept. 2019. Our room was one of the two that open onto their terrace. We highly recommend it for those seeking comfort, cleanliness, and friendly personable staff. I'm not sure what to call it - sort of a cross between a BnB and a small hotel. It was the entirety of one floors of one of the typical 5-6 story Eixample buildings. The location, in Eixample, was perfect for us. It was 2 blocks from the intersection of the Passieg de Gràcia and the Avinguda Diagonal major boulevards, midway between the Diagonal Metro station serving 3 lines, and the Verdanguer metro station seving 2 lines; it was only about 2 blocks (~1,200 feet) from each. And only 2 blocks from La Pedrera. It was only about a 1.6 km walk to the Plaça de Catalunya or 3 km to the harbor.

We loved this small hotel in an interesting old building in the Eixample area of Barcelona. The staff were absolutely stellar, checking us in early when our arrival plans changed, assisting with transportation and restaurant suggestions, and just by having a friendly word or two every time we arrived or left through the front door. The breakfast was good and plentiful and there was always tea and biscuits available during the day. Spending an hour on the terrace with tea and a book was a nice way to wind down in the late afternoon. Outside there is some noise from the adjacent school grounds, but we liked that about the neighbourhood...people live and work here. The neighbourhood is full of trees, nice shops and interesting bars/restaurants. It was easy to get around on foot, bus and metro and we were happy to be away from the more hectic tourist areas.

A very good find A lovely stay. A little far out but worth the walk. A very quirky building with old style lift...stunning architecture and vibe. Good sized room....great breakfast.....chilled terrace and all staff spoke English. What's not to like.

Response from Assumpta Baldó, Director General at Casa Mathilda
Responded Jun 11, 2020
Dear guest. Thank you very much for your nice comments about us. It is a pleasure to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. Just to notice that we are located in the very central area, 5 minutes walking distance to La Pedrera and 15 walking distance to La Sagrada Familia. Best shopping around as well as restaurants. The smart Passeig de Gracia is round the corner as well as Gracia area is. And if you mean Ramblas, just 15 minutes walking there! Thank you for staying with us. Hope to see you again :-)

stayed there for three nights, our room was great! very quiet and looked out on to the patio. breakfast was great and have no complaints about the communal areas! the room was spacious and the bed was incredibly comfortable however the bed sheets were a little old as were the towels and bath robes, the air con in the room isn't that powerful either but does work after a while.
