Lovely hotel with a great location. The elevator in the building looks original to the building and takes you back in time. The hotel is located on 2 very useful metro lines so getting anywhere was easy.

Our room set up was thoughtful: large shower, sink located in the room, outside the bathroom, desk and bed area were separated by a curtain. The staff were also really nice.

We stayed at Casa Mathilda 4 days/5 nights in Sept. 2019. Our room was one of the two that open onto their terrace. We highly recommend it for those seeking comfort, cleanliness, and friendly personable staff. I'm not sure what to call it - sort of a cross between a BnB and a small hotel. It was the entirety of one floors of one of the typical 5-6 story Eixample buildings.

The location, in Eixample, was perfect for us. It was 2 blocks from the intersection of the Passieg de Gràcia and the Avinguda Diagonal major boulevards, midway between the Diagonal Metro station serving 3 lines, and the Verdanguer metro station seving 2 lines; it was only about 2 blocks (~1,200 feet) from each. And only 2 blocks from La Pedrera. It was only about a 1.6 km walk to the Plaça de Catalunya or 3 km to the harbor.

We stayed at Casa Mathilda for 3 nights. Staff were welcoming after our very long trip from Australia. The room was clean and comfortable and opened onto the lovely patio area which we made full use of and took breakfast there each day. It was a bit cosy as we had a 3rd camp style bed added to the double room at a cost of €50 extra per night to accomodate our family group. This suited us and was cost effective. The air con did not seem to be very effective at all but this did not impact us too much. We did hear the school children next door on the Friday afternoon but it was not at all detrimental to our enjoyment. There were several supermarkets within a short walking distance and we could easily walk to the metro to get to the Gothic Quarter and port. There were several local tapas restaurants nearby and check out those recommended by the hotel. We did. It was a 10 minute stroll to Sagrada Familia. We could help ourselves to tea and biscuits from the kitchen/dining area located just outside our room at any time and there was a well equipped vending machine with well priced snacks, soft drinks and beer. Coffee pods were €1 from the machine and there was fresh filter coffee each morning alongside a delightful continental help yourself breakfast. The quality was fantastic and including cured meats, an unbelievably good tortilla/Spanish omelette, cheeses, cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit and juices, nuts, breads, preserves, muffins and croissants. We took our time and enjoyed the experience each morning. No rush as it was served till 10.30. We were able to store our luggage till late on our day of check out and were given the door code to get in as reception had left for the day. Alexander was extremely polite and helpful as were all the staff we encountered. Casa Mathilda is a relaxed, homely, warm and welcoming 5 * base for your stay in Barcelona. Recommended and we hope to return one day.

This is an absolutely charming hotel conveniently located in the Eixample district (close to two of Gaudi's famous houses). It's a beautiful neighborhood to walk in and is also close to the Gracia Disctict (where we found some great places to eat Tapas , drink wine, and people watch).

I can't say enough good things about the staff: they were some of the most friendly and welcoming people we've encountered in Europe and helped us in many ways during our 6 day stay .

Breakfast is served in an attractive sun filled common area and there is also a beautiful terrace attached behind it where you can sit, eat, read--whatever!

We stayed in a room facing the street with a refrigerator, comfortable bed, and a great window seat filled with cushions. And, despite the street view, it was quiet during our entire stay.

The next time we visit Barcelona Hotel Casa Mathilde will definitely be our first choice for accommodations.

Even though we travelled during Covid, and the hotel was, as a result, not able to serve breakfast in the way it normally would ( we received a breakfast box instead of a buffet breakfast), I'd thoroughly recommend Casa Mathilda.

Family run, small and intimate. Located in a smart, multi-use building in the Eixample district of the city. Elegant, well proportioned public spaces and a lovely outdoor terrace which can be accessed from the breakfast/dining area.

The rooms are comfortable and serviced daily. Nice shower. Our room had a lovely window seat, set in a bay, over-looking the street.

Everywhere is walkable, and even though this hotel is not situated right in the touristic heart of the city, it is easy to walk there, and has the advantage of being adjacent to the many bars, restaurants and shops of the more bohemian, trendy, Gracia neighbourhood too.

I'd definitely stay here again, and would definitely recommend it for a more authentic experience of the city away from the touristic crowds.

The staff is friendly and helpful, the building is beautiful, the location is about perfect - equidistant to all the popular things you’ll want to see in Barcelona and in a very nice neighborhood. The building has a charming antique elevator. Parking is available nearby. From the street, the place is inconspicuous, no signage. We stayed twice during our trip. The first time we stayed two nights in a lovely but small room with a street view, very clean, great water pressure. The second time we stayed for one night and we were informed they had to bump us to a different room at a reduced price. The second room turned out to be an interior room with no window, next to the office, had a disability friendly shower, but smelled distinctly of sewage. I’m not sure if that smell is transient or permanent, but the room smelled bad when we came and bad when we left. We didn’t stay long enough to sort it out with management. Because of this experience I can’t say I would recommend it. If you book here, and there are a lot of reasons you would, I would inquire about the nature of the room.

A lovely comfortable base for exploring the city. Very friendly and welcoming, attention to detail, great choices for breakfast and tea/coffee/biscuits available all day. We chose a room with a view over the street - very well soundproofed. Cosy room with a very comfortable bed and bath/shower, as well as a fridge and fresh water each day. Relaxed vibe and the breakfast room/lounge/terrace was available to make use of all day. Easy access to the metro and buses and plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. On our departure day, we were able to leave our bags in reception after check out for collection later in the day. Thank you.

Boutique hotel in a quiet area of Eixample, near several tapas restaurants and a 15 minute walk to Plaza Catalunya.

Friendly and helpful staff, clean comfortable rooms and nice outdoor patio. Breakfast available for a fee, but we chose to eat at Hotel Praktik bakery around the corner for a fraction of the price.

One thing that bothered us was when we returned to the hotel for an afternoon siesta, we heard screaming children from the school next door. I wasn’t aware of summer programs, otherwise I’d have booked a hotel elsewhere. For this reason I am giving the hotel only 3 stars.

After a busy day of sightseeing and walking around the city, coming back to Casa Matilda each evening felt like coming home. The rooms are comfortable, relatively quiet considering the busyness of the city, and the breakfast is first class! We enjoyed eating on the back terrace and exchanging travel ideas with our fellow travellers. Alexander, the concierge, was so helpful! We strongly recommend this lovely bed and breakfast for its excellent location in the Eixample district.

Casa Mathilda was our first accommodation during our 4 week honeymoon throughout Spain and Morocco and one of the most memorable. We stayed in both an interior room and a terrace room and both were cozy and had everything we needed.. The staff were incredibly helpful to us during and after our stay (we entrusted them with a mission to help get our lost package of belongings sent back to us in the USA). We loved sun bathing on the outdoor patio. It is located in a great part of Barcelona, walking distance to Passeig de Gracia, Sagrada Familia, Placa de Catalunya, and La Rambla. Finally, it is affordable while still providing a comfortable place to stay. Highly recommend Casa Mathilda for anyone traveling in Barcelona.

I don't recall them having a laundry service or a washing machine. You may need to ask them where there is a tinteria (dry cleaners) or lavandería (laundromat).
