Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.

Rooms were big, breakfast was yummy and the staff were friendly, although the gym and the pool are very small. The hotel is close to shopping places. Close to La Rambla street, and Plaça de Catalunya.

Hotel's Favorite
Visited in early May as part of a large group. This hotel was very accommodating and all the team were very professional. The hotel was beautiful and in a perfect location with just a short walk to some beautiful sites. The rooms were lovely and modern with very comfortable beds. Best part of the room was the bathroom, usually in hotels the water pressure is quite low but the shower here was the best. Hotel will not disappoint.

I booked a suite with private pool via the hotel's rewards system on their website, which works out a little bit cheaper than the standard price you find on hotels, booking.com, trivago etc. It also grants you a few perks, which are "subject to availability" i.e. no perks - but the money saved was good enough for me. My girlfriend and I arrived at the hotel around 12pm, and approached the desk to ask to leave our luggage. We knew check in was at 3pm, and although by booking through the hotel's rewards system you are entitled to "early check in", we weren't expecting much. The lady, Paula, at reception was very polite and helpful, and told us to come back at 3pm to check in officially and collect the keys. Our luggage was then stored by the hotel's bell boy in their storage room. The hotel is just off Las Ramblas, a prime spot for Barcelona. It's very easy to travel anywhere by metro with Universitat and Plaça Catalunya station both just under a 5min walk away. Mercat de la Boqueria is also a 5min walk away, which is very good for those who do not have breakfast included in their hotel room. There are two taxi ranks outside the hotel too if you'd rather get a cab over public transport (much much much cheaper to get public transport). We checked in at 3pm, and were swiftly given the keys to our room. As we walked in to the room, you could tell straight away the hotel was a level above from anything else we've previously stayed in. The toilet area was spacious, with a particularly large shower. However, the shower was one of the only downfalls to the room, as it kept fluctuating from the temperature set to really hot, or really cold. The living room area was also quite big for a room located in central Barcelona, with a decent sized tv and a stocked minibar to meet all your needs. The sofa was a decent size, and was able to be converted into a sofa bed if needed. The bedroom was very nice, with a very large bed (more in width than in length), and an even bigger tv than the living room. Both tvs had a 50+ list of tv channels from all around the world, and the list was put on the 2nd channel, so no need to flick through and waste your time. The bed was very comfy, and due to the width of the bed, the pillows were also very wide. They were not for me, and as we were only staying for a night, it wasn't too much of a problem for me, but luckily on the bedside counter there is a "pillow menu" for you to choose which type of pillow you'd like to sleep on. The hotel supplies a smartphone which you can take out and use whilst on your holiday in Barcelona, which is very handy for those that don't have data access, or those that are unable to make calls with their normal phone. The best part of the room, and the reason why we chose it was of course the patio area with the private pool. The patio was of a decent size, with two chairs, a table, and two sun lounges - one in the sun, the other in the shade, and of course the private plunge pool. Unfortunately for us, we visited a cloudy Barcelona, but on a day with clear skies the pool is located perfectly for you to catch the sun, and cool off in the pool. It isn't too deep, but it is very relaxing. The staff were very nice in bringing us a complimentary bottle of water, with a tray of fruit (pineapple, watermelon, melon, kiwi) to our room. A few minutes later, another member of staff came up to our room, and knocked once before letting herself in to drop off some bathrobes. The bathrobes came with a flyer saying we would be charged €30 to use them, which is ridiculous, as hotels of a lesser calibre than this one give out complimentary bathrobes and slippers. It seems stupid to be charging for something like that. The hotel's pool and bar area were very classy, and I was surprised to see as many empty chairs as I did. There are complimentary towels for you to use, which you then drop off in the same spot once you're finished. The food on offer is also very nice, and they have a good drinks menu. There is also a gym which supplies free bottles of water and green apples - but it's more a fitness room than a gym, with only 3 machines in the room. The hotel also has a rooftop bar with "views of Barcelona", but we never managed to visit it, and a spa with a sauna, that offers personal treatments at a surcharge, but again we didn't have the time unfortunately. All in all, this is a superb hotel in the centre of Barcelona. It gives off a luxurious feel instantly, and I have no doubt that if I were to visit Barcelona again, Catalonia Ramblas would be top of my list for places to stay.

I have only written positive reports for hotels in the past but could not let this hotel off the hook. I stayed at this hotel late June / early July 2019for 6 nights. I booked two rooms and requested one room with a double and 1 room with two singles. The booking was done directly thru their own website. I was given a price of around E1900 for the stay. On checking in I was first told that it will be an extra E20 per night because there was 2 people in one room. I pointed out that I had booked for 3 people hence the request I made for the bedding configuration . My logical argument fell on deaf ears and for starters I was hit with the E120 charge. During check in they produced a final account which was confusing to say the least. No mention of the second room and constructed in a way that I could not make sense of. The only thing that was clear was the final total of approx E2500. This was somewhat different from what I was first quoted. Unfortunately when I checked the confirmation for my online booking there was no detail of price or number of guests so paid the money and decided to look at the situation the next day. Following day I went on line to hotel web site and did a “dummy” booking for the day after I checked in for 6 nights - 3 people . Price from hotel website was E1890. I approached a staff member and explained my experience when I checked in and how much I was charged compared to my dummy booking I had made that day. She tried to brush me off by saying that the rates change everyday especially when you go through 3rd party booking sites. I then advised her that I had not used a booking site but had used their hotel site. She then advised she was about to finish her shift and she would look at it the following day. The next day I heard nothing so folllwing day I picked a time when reception was less chaotic than it normally was I began to explain my query. I may as well been talking to a brick wall and staff not listening as all he did was ask for room numbers and said “it’s no problem - this account has been paid” So I just gave up. As a footnote I have since read other reviews and there a other reports of this hotel charging more than quoted. As to actual service that was ordinary. Two people in a room and after room was serviced house staff were generous enough to leave 1 single serve pod of UHT milk . Tracked them down and got a few more. Next day same thing 1 pod of milk. Again just gave up and got used to black coffee. Ordered a coffee from pool bar. Staff wee quick to make sure I paid for it and was told it would be brought to me . After 1/2 hour and no coffee I went back to see if it was ready. Staff made it straight away so obviously forgot the order . I was going to cancel the coffee but as I had already charged it to my room and given my experience with hotels accounting system I dare not risk not getting my coffee . Pool area small and therefore no umbrellas directly around pool probably due to lack of room. Not hotels fault but usual story for badly managed pool areas— guests come down at dawn and throw a towel and an old book or a knock off copy of cheap sunglasses and think that gives them ownership of lounge for the day . A good hotel - and I have been to them - will manage this problem in a discreet way . But as I said not hotels fault that some of there guests are ignorant. Anyway our stay at this hotel was not as pleasant as I was expecting and given my time again I probably would have not stayed there.

It was my first visit to Spain on a family Holiday and I wanted to stay close to the most happening streets of Barcelona La Ramblas. This hotel is located very well 3 mins walk to La Ramblas and value for money. The hotel was very well accessible by Metro at La Ramblas. The rooms were neat and clean and spacious. The hotel staff was ok but very strict with check in times. You should inform the hotel in advance if you want early check in’s. The regular checkin time is 3PM. Would recommend staying at this place if you are visiting with family.
