The 4-star Eurostars Monumental Hotel sits between the sites of The Sagrada Familia and the Agbar Tower, the two great vantage points of Barcelona's today and yesterday There are so many things we could say about The Sagrada Familia. That one day it will have 18 spires. That, of all the buildings under construction in Europe, it is the one that was first started. That it is the most visited monument in Catalonia. That, at the current pace, work will be finished by 2026.

Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

The rooms are very small but clean so far and the staff is very polite. These are the good points. The walls are like half a millimeter thick, you can hear literally EVERYTHING what’s happening in the room above and next to you. It’s the loudest hotel I’ve ever been to. They won’t change your bedsheets (I stayed there for ten days) so be aware of that. The window was always completely open when I got back to my room. It would be a 3-stars hotel but it’s definitely not worth 4 stars (not for this price). No pool, no gym.

This was my first visit to Catalonia and Barcelona. I chose this hotel because of it's location, close to the famous cathedral. The hotel was also situated real close to the subway, which was handy for traveling all over the city very easy. The room was at the top, with my own veranda with a perfect view. The service was excellent, from the cleaning, check-in and assistance in finding restaurants.

We had a late arrival, around midnight, and we were given the last room available which did not correspond to the picture included in the confirmation of the reservation that we received by email. A very small room with a double bed, against a wall, with access only by one side. The window, to a noisy main street, could not be locked. In the morning someone came into our room by mistake and then we realized that the lock was broken and it could be open without a key. The hotel management reacted to our complaints apologizing and moving us to a nice room, with a terrace and providing us a fruit basket. However, when we came back to the hotel around 4 pm the room had not been done. On the positive side, the breakfast was very good.
