Faithful to the concept and style of Axel-design, comfortable, cosmopolitan atmosphere, is a good value for price. The 101 rooms combine the touch of decoration from Modernism with the warmth and elegance of the Mediterranean. New spaces at Axel Hotel Barcelona, will become the urban meeting point of the heterofriendly.

Lovely gay hotel in Barcelona. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was next door at Nikkei. The gym and spa were also sort of next door but can be reached through the elevator (even though this did not work for us). For the gym you need to make a reservation 24hrs before and is shared with people not staying at the hotel. It was inconvenient that you could not go the the gym whenever. The spa was also on reservation only and costs 15,- per person per hour, which I think is very very overpriced. The rooms were alright and the bathroom nice. The balcony was shared with the neighbours which was nice for us, but perhaps not for everyone. The pool on the roof is small but very nice to cool off with a drink. The bar on the roof was closed however.

A-mazing DJ’s (las dramas de honor) combined with delish cocktails and asian-peruvian lunch provided. Good gay ambiance and fun to hang with friends. Smoking terrace and good service. Sadly no Vermuth available.

The TWO by Axel has been closed for several months and according to the manager at the Axel Barcelona hotel, they do not know when they will be re-opening. Despite this, the company has decided to continue selling nights at the TWO hotel and then shortly before your check-in date they email you to tell you your reservation has been moved. The Axel hotel is not as nice, in my opinion, and according to staff is a completely different concept. I felt cheated. It was a bait and switch sale based on misleading marketing and completely unethical in my book. Later, I was told by the staff I had been given a free upgrade as if I should have been happy but their upgraded room didn’t measure up to the description of the room I had reserved at the TWO hotel. This coupled with the poor and unfriendly service at check-in and the bar as well as management’s response was to me made this the absolute last time I stay at any Axel property.

Although the AXEL HOTEL is Barcelona's leading “GAY HOTEL”! But at least it is, as stated ”HETERO-FRIENDLY”. I wasn’t aware of this until after having booked a room. We enjoyed a lovely stay; and a room with a Juliet balcony overlooking downtown. . Several reviews rated this hotel high and I had a very good deal offer. So I booked it. Then I checked the hotel homepage….. OMG. However, it’s central location won out. This was to be our first trip to Spain and won’t be our last. As a heterosexual. Couple; We were always made feel welcome by staff and guests in passing. Rooftop deck pool and Cocktail bar enjoys stunning sunset /rooftop-city views. A Gay hangout. Despite all the chaos of Covid; at no time did we feel at risk or unsafe whilst ever we were at the AXEL. As they adhered to all Spanish Government Covid rules; plus they implemented extra precautions like sanitizer hand pads at entry to elevator-lift. 😷Face Mask😷must be worn at all times outside your room; even by staff. Everything Covid related was prof. We didn’t get to utilise the gym as closed due to Covid rules. Each morning we were greeted and served Breakfast in the Dining Room by SERGI. Being greeted and served by Sergi was a pleasant start to our day! His attention to his guests was impressive. From day 1 to 7 he remembered us by our first names. He was friendly guy who was eager to please all of his diners; Hubby and I appreciated. The location was brilliant for close walking distance to numerous bars; restaurants; nightclubs; shops; cinema and Metro train station also steps away to travel into City. Barcelona's leading gay hotel! But at least it is, as stated ”heterofriendly”. Although we would choose to stay elsewhere if we returned; Yes we’d recommend the Axel Hotel to anyone with a open mind. At no time was it an unpleasant experience. Nothing was ever too much trouble whenever a request was made to any of the staff.

I travelled alone to Barcelona for my 30th Birthday. The staff at the hotel went above and beyond to make sure it was a celebration for me. They upgraded my room for free, gifted me early check in, and gave me a gift bag with vouchers for free drinks at the bar, and some chocolates. I felt so special! As standard they also had freebies in the room such as toiletries and condoms. The room was beautiful and clean. All of the staff were so friendly, and the atmosphere was amazing. I can’t even imagine how good it would be not during a pandemic. I loved every minute of my stay and I cannot wait to come back and stay at the hotel again. I fell in love!
