Lovely hotel, great location in the city centre. Staff was polite and attentive. Drinks are quite pricey for cocktails (£8.50) and sadly not that great. There is a bar next door which is much cheaper (£4). The beds was too low to the floor and I had to add more pillows to see the TV at eye level.

We took a ‘City Break’ with Lastminute.com last week and spent a few days in Barcelona (the first time we have been). The Hotel Barcelona Universal was part of the ‘package’ that we purchased and it proved an ideal base for our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay - from us arriving way before the allocated...

We just stayed for four nights in a standard double room. It was small but beautifully decorated. The room and the hotel itself is immaculate. The highlight is definitely the 10th floor with the panoramic view of Barcelona. Absolutely stunning. Although the bar didn't open upstairs because it's winter the bar staff couldn't have been more accommodating telling us to...

We had a very enjoyable 3 night stay at the Barcelona Universal. The hotel was in a great position for sightseeing, metro links and the hop on off bus tours. The rooms were extremely comfortable but a wee bit on the dark side. The staff and breakfast were excellent. I can seriously recommend this hotel

This hotel provided a top-notch experience in every way. Not only were the room, breakfast facilities and staff superb but the hotel itself was ideally located - walking distance to so many of Barcelona's attractions.

Hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful, especially Alessandra at the front desk who gave us some great suggestions. Location is about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the Ramblas and the metro is just opposite the hotel. Views from the rooftop were stunning, I can imagine on a summers night it would be a chilled and...

Staying in El Raval

Neighborhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
