The 4 Star Superior Hotel Espana is located in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, adjacent to La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Gothic Quarter. Opened in 1859, it was later renovated by the celebrated modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. The hotel has always been considered a little gem of Barcelona modernism. Completely renovated in 2010, it combines modern interior design with the classicism of a nineteenth century building. The hotel's restaurant service is under the management of the chef Martin Berasategui.

The hotel was very central and although close to The Ramblas it was tucked away in a side street - no traffic. The hotel staff were extremely courteous and helpful especially as the corona virus stated to come into play. We were with our cousins from Canada who were staying an after we left. On the Saturday they closed all shops & restaurants. I understand the hotel could not do enough to help our cousins. The hotel was clean and the rooms had been modernised, tea and coffee facilities were available in the room, we had a small balcony.. The breakfast was delicious and our scrambled eggs were made to order and brought to the table in a little cocotte. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this hotel.

We have had such a lovely time. The staff are very pleasant and the rooms are very stylish with comfy beds. The location is amazing, right next to Liceu metro stop, so ideal for getting around the city. I would highly recommend the restaurant too which is reasonably priced considering the Michelin star.

Very disappointed with our stay, the roof terrace and swimming pool weren’t open which were the main reasons we picked this hotel, our room wasn’t cleaned well at all the sheets weren’t changed at all on the 2nd day there was a small dirty mark on Thebes bedding and it never left, trivago says they have a spa and they don’t, having the balcony was very nice but that was the only Pleasant part of the stay, even the staff were intimidating, whilst waiting for our cab we sat on the sofas in the reception bar and the bar man slapped a menu in front of us and circled us like we were obliged to by drinks, there are lots of nicer hotels to stay at for a similar price in Barcelona’s

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your recent stay at our hotel did not meet your expectations. During your stay, we did clarify that the Spa is an incorrect information on Trivago which we will attend to. For this, we hoped that the compensation we offered made up for the inconvenience. In our web page you can see the timetable of our terrace. We open always from April to October. Usually, our team members are considered to be courteous and professional. I stayed with my son in this hotel during a weekend. It's a very nice and clean hotel. Friendly staff and in the center less than 100meters of the Ramblas. The rooms are clean and good, same for the breakfast. Unfortunately we haven't eat in the restaurant of the hotel because of other obligations, but next time we will do.

I booked this hotel based on the reviews and for its location. We were not disappointed. We had rooms 503 and 504. With a terrace on each room. So lovely to step out and take in the view and atmosphere each morning. Lovely furniture on the terrace too with a light up flower haha. Coffee machines the room ( Nespresso my favorite) Decaf too. Very comfy bed. The location is perfect, just literally off the Ramblas. Staff all very friendly and professional. Best decaf espresso martini in the bar one of the best I’ve ever had. I’d love to go back in the summer when the rooftop bar and pool are open. Would thoroughly recommend this little gem.
