The hotel is charming and set in part of the historical city wall. As a driver, it was a little confusing at first - the parking lot right outside the hotel is 2 hr paid city parking, so you need to pay the kiosk and put a ticket on your window while you check in. Otherwise, go straight into the...

We’d been resting in our room for about 45 minutes after a drive from Marbella when, without knocking or calling out, the front desk clerk came into the room. We’d heard a key in a door, but assumed it was to a nearby room. We didn’t know she was there until she emerged from the foyer into the bedroom. She...

Hadn't figured out where we were going between the Saffron Festival in Consuegra and our return flight from Madrid when a neighbor recommended this hotel, built into the wall below the ancient city. We went home and booked a nonrefundable deal on a King Suite including breakfast. Couldn't believe that we read Rick Steve's review of this place and he...

Highest recommendation. Serenely quiet room. Clean and charming. And the hallways and property are filled with breath taking elements. The most beautiful grounds - with fountains, stone benches and turrets from ancient gates. Right at the edge of the old district, the location could not have been better. I wish we had planned an extra day for exploring. Unfortunately, like...

We stayed two nights at the Cardenal in Toledo. It was wonderful! I always stay at Spain's paradors whenever I can, and this was the first time that I stayed at the Cardenal. It is definitely a Spanish experience! It is an historical building and CAN be one of the paradors. It has beautiful gardens, an outdoor (when in season)...

We had many wonderful hotels in our three weeks in Spain, but this was my favorite. It was not just our room and the fabulous restaurant and bar, but the little sitting spots both inside and outside. Remember this is the Hacienda of the Cardinal, so don't look for ultra modern, enjoy history! We managed to have the only rainy...

A wonderfully quaint place to stay when visiting Toledo, much like the rest of the city. This is far from a luxury hotel but oozes all the charm you'd want given the setting. The food is superb in the restaurant downstairs, and the hotel is superbly positioned for an easy stroll up into Toledo itself.

If you are on a driving tour, one of the hard things about medieval Spanish towns is getting to your hotel. Hotel del Cardenal makes it easy. The hotel is actually built into the town walls. Park your car in the small open lot that that has the signage for the hotel. Put a euro in the parking meter as...

This is a charming hotel and very convenient to the outdoor escalators that convey you to the old town our room was very nice and the hotel staff was very helpful. They even phoned on my behalf to locate my lost camera which I had left in a museum. Great breakfast.

We loved this beautiful, old hotel (once the elegant home of a cardinal,) built on the city wall, adjacent to the Bisagra Gate. We loved the outdoor restaurant with its tinkling fountains and the swimming pool, situated adjacent to the city walls. Our room was quirky with charming old doors, wood beams, and red tile floors. Moorish details abound and...
