Spent a week's holiday here in early February and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had requested a quiet room and that was fulfilled with a room at the back of the hotel. The room was very comfortable, good bed, coffee maker, complimentary water replaced daily, fridge and a quality bathroom with robes and slippers. Internet signal was a bit erratic but the hotel went out of their way to try and remedy the problem. It is mainly a business hotel, with conferences and meetings taking place and lots of short stays. We enjoyed the gym (shame the fitness class room could not be used as a stretch out zone when classes aren't running), the pool was lovely and had no problem getting a sunbed. We didn't use the spa, 18 euros a visit, which may be worth it, if that's your thing. We only ate breakfast at the hotel as there are so many lovely restaurants very close by. Breakfast was phenomenal, loads of hot and cold choices, freshly squeezed orange juice and good quality coffee - all self service. The location is excellent , the park opposite is beautiful and serene. Lots of local restaurants in the vicinity - our favourite the Taberna Ramon which was recommended by the hotel and which we visited 3 times! We also liked the Mundo Iberico with it's amazing selection of iberico ham and magnums of wine. We had a few drinks in the bar at the hotel, which were more pricey than other places and the service was quite slow but there was some low key live music later in the evening which we enjoyed. Public transport was cheap and plentiful so it is very easy to get out and about and there is also a taxi rank right outside the hotel. We would like to say a special thank you to the staff who were very friendly and helpful and particularly to Salvador who went the extra mile to make our stay such a great one. We will definitely return to this hotel.

My wife and I stayed a week at this hotel in January in a “Garden View Deluxe” room with a large terrace. Breakfast was included and this is the option which I strongly recommend. The choice for breakfast is staggering and if you take your time and enjoy it like we did, you will not feel hungry at lunchtime. Dinner is best taken in the many very good restaurants in the town.
The hotel is ideally situated for walking around town and visiting the city’s attractions. Most of our walks started through the very pleasant García Sanabria City Park, which is over the road from the hotel. Also, a very convenient bus stop one minute from the hotel made it easy to use the very efficient Santa Cruz bus service if required.
Service in the hotel was excellent. On our first morning I reported a couple of minor problems in our bathroom. We went for a short exploratory walk and when we returned the problems had been fixed. Everything in the room was changed every day and we found that if we spoke with the housekeeper on the way to breakfast on our return the room was as it was when we first arrived. The staff here are all very helpful and eager to assist.
The pool was great when the sun came out and the spa is very relaxing.
We would not hesitate to stay at the Mencey again.
PS. If you arrive at Tenerife South Airport you can catch the 111 bus to Santa Cruz which takes just over an hour but is comfortable and has interesting views along the coast.

I had already stayed at the mencey hotel previously, but I was surprised in a very pleasant way. The check in was smooth although a little long, however the staff were absolutely lovely and made sure everything was handled with care. When we got to our room right after check in our luggage was already waiting for us, which is always greatly appreciated. The rooms were clean and it was evident that they were disinfected and safe to be in with COVID. The beds were comfortable and there was decent storage in the closets. However, in the bathroom there was a significant lack of storage, with only the sink to use as storage. Breakfast was handled in shifts in order to enhance COVID protection, and your vaccination certificate is required to eat in all of the hotels restaurants. Breakfast was served buffet style with plenty of options and also offered certain a la carte dishes. To acces the gym there was also schedule to book just in case it was full when you got there, it was mandatory to disinfect the equipment after each use and the gym had amazing ventilation as one of its walls is a fully openable glass screen. The Spa offered various treatments with a little expensive prices but the experience was worth it, the hotel also has a fairly large pool which has a climate control for the colder days. I would defined recommend the mencey hotel for either short or long visits. It definitely proved to be a 5 star hotel and it will most likely be seeing me again.

We stayed 10 days over Xmas on a B&B basis. The breakfast was excellent, with lots of food to choose from. The salt water pool is great. There is a little bit of competition for sun loungers but that was to be expected. Generally speaking there is a quiet and serene feel in this hotel: all I wanted to do was relax :-) All staff are really helpful and friendly, a couple of staff gave me wrong information but everybody else was excellent and customer services is really efficient. When there were (small) issues these were solved swiftly and in a friendly manner. The spa is great, it is a shame that you have to pay £18 even if you are staying there for 10 days. Management offered me a free entry when I raised this as an issue, so you see they look very well after their customers! I had one treatment at the spa (exfoliation) and it was AMAZING! My main problem with the hotel is that some of the finish is a bit cheap: the wardrobes make a very loud noise when you close them: we could hear people closing their wardrobes every time they were using them! Room doors do not close quietly either and chairs also make terrible noises when they are moved. The shower door was also leaking. All this should be easily fixed and when this is done the IBEROSTAR will really be a 5 star.

We have been visiting the hotel Mencey for 20 years and we will not come back. We staid for 2 weeks in June and the experience this year has been quite unpleasant. We never felt the Mencey was in many ways a “real” 5-star hotel, but it has other qualities that were very convenient for us. In addition, there have always been many events in this hotel but until now we have been able to forgive the inconveniences that these cause for the guests. However this year all the lines have been crossed. The hotel has turned into a nice sports club for members (not hotel guests) and a great venue for events at the expense of guests' comfort. Personal trainers in the gym that kick you out of the space you're using to train their clients. Swimming courses for children at the pool, bathrooms converted into showers and changing rooms after the lessons. Gardens and terraces turned into a schoolyard where groups of parents chat, and towels, bags and snacks accumulate while siblings play soccer. Enjoying the spa and its services is also difficult since practically everything is already booked. We did not try to use the tennis/paddle court but it seems also very popular too. The gastronomic offer is very limited. The pool restaurant is only open from Friday to Sunday (or any day for the private events). Niqqei, Aborigen and Papa Negra restaurants are closed. The WiFi in the rooms is poor and unreliable. Depending on who you talk to at the reception, they provide you with a quiet space with better coverage to work or they ask you to leave because you have not booked and paid for it. The staff in general seems to be divided into two worlds where some are super friendly and the others are rude and make you feel anything but welcome.
We had an interesting conversation with the manager days before we left. After our complaints we were offered a voucher for a massage in the spa. Massage that we could not enjoy since it was impossible to make an appointment, the very few free slots available until our departure day were at times very inconvenient for us.
Conclusion. If you are looking for a sports club in the area or a venue for your event this is a great place and the staff will make sure that hotel guests do not disturb you.
If you are looking for a hotel: a) for vacation I do not recommend it; b) for work/telework I do not recommend it; c) to combine vacation and work I do not recommend it.

I've returned to the Mencey annually because I know I am guaranteed a high standard of service, a calm atmosphere, a wonderful experience in the Spa and water circuit (currently closed, unfortunately, for the obvious reasons), and some proper relaxation. This trip was no disappointment; the staff were incredibly accommodating (thanks to Marcel at reception, Juan seemingly everywhere, and lovely folks in the bar and Los Menceyes and Papa Negra restaurants who coped amazingly with my jumbled mix of English, Spanish and Italian). The hotel was spotless, and it never felt crowded and rushed, even at busier moments. I even got a birthday cake for breakfast!
I enjoyed a leisurely, shady lunch at the poolside restaurant and a relaxed drink at the sheltered outdoor bar in the evenings; it was a shame to have to select breakfast and dinner "shifts" because of their COVID precations, but the team were incredibly helpful if I needed to flex my arranged times and the service was always prompt and friendly. Dinner in Papa Negra was a lovely highlight: the service was discreet and efficient, and the food beautifully presented. The Lomi Lomi Nui massage in the Spa was 70 minutes of absolute bliss and strikes a lovely balance between pure relaxation and working out some of those deeper knots.
I had to do a little work while on holiday, and the WiFi in the room was very good - more than adequate for an hour's Teams video call.
The location of the hotel is great for a walk into Santa Cruz through the attractive García Sanabria park. Sta Cruz is a "real" town with a sizeable local population, and so lets you get your hands on anything you might need during your stay, as well as offering plenty of other options for dining, taking an afternoon aperitif, or just having a wander. The tiny free exhibition of the foundations of Castillo San Cristobal under Plaza España is too easy to miss, but is worth a quick visit, including the chance to see Tigre, the famous cannon that saw to Nelson's arm.
Please don't come to the Mencey: I want to keep it a secret! But if you must come, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

After being so happy with hotels of this chain in different locations, of course I had big expectations. These unfortunately were not satisfied. Arrival and check-in was ok, some 15 minutes. Room rather small, facing to a quiet street. The details were discovered later : no " dont disturb" hanger was in the room, there was a partial item to prepare coffee ( sugar, milk ), but no coffee. When we asked for some coffee, we were delivered 4 capsule of Nespresso, but we only had a water kettle in the room. So no chance to prepare...after some intervenations, we received a Nespresso Machine - so lucky. Breakfast was ok, but nothing to compare with other places of this very same chain, This place sells as a 5 star hotel..I would say 4 star at the best. Going back there ? Most probably not.

Booked through Expedia. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly wherever we went and were very helpful. The Junior suite was very well catered for and we would advise having the breakfast included. There are so many restaurants around that we were able to eat out every day at somewhere different establishments. The poolside laurels restaurant was excellent as was the pool. The evening turn-down service can, however, be a bit hit or miss.

The hotel was great. The rooms are spacious, hotel is super clean throughout, the gym is awesome and well maintained. Also everything was disinfected after use so felt very safe during the pandemic. The garden, pool and even the turtles are beautiful. We had a small inconvience at the room just before midnight which was resolved immediatly and properly. The service is great in general and everyone is super friendly and helpful. The breakfast had a good selection and even lactose free and vegan options which is rare in Spain. Location is super as is the parking arrangement. Highly recommend this hotel, it was the best out of the 3 we stayed in at Tenerife.

A superb hotel with beautiful grounds and a good location to discover Santa Cruz. We made a very last minute booking to stay here for two nights. The hotel has an underground parking garage nearby with direct access to the hotel premises. Parking costs €12 per 24 hours. Check in at the hotel took a long time but we guess the receptionist was still in training as he needed help from his colleague all the time. Rooms are large with a private bathroom which is almost as large as the room itself. Breakfast consisted of a buffet but you couldn’t take the food and drinks yourself (due to health regulations). The quality of the breakfast was superb. Breakfast was organised in shifts to avoid a crowded breakfast room. The pool area is stunning and capacity here is reduced as well due to health regulations. A small remark here... we had to draw the attention of the pool attendant after standing in front of her for 5min to get some towels as she was asleep or too busy with her mobile phone (still not sure about this). Not something you would expect from a 5-star hotel. We didn’t have lunch or dinner in the hotel as you can find a lot of cozy local restaurants within 10min walking from the hotel.
To summarize: some small hiccups... but we would definitely stay here again and recommend the property to family and friends.

Etereo is a wonderful restaurant, I provided a review of it following our trip earlier this year - approx 5 minute walk from the hotel
Yes they can - not sure of cost - we got the bus back to the airport
Yes, I believe so or you can call reception to get room service to put one in your room. You may need to call a few times though as we found requests were not always actioned by reception.
