We have just returned from a wonderful week at this lovely hotel. From beginning to end every member of staff went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Nothing was too much trouble. We were upgraded to a suite overlooking Teide and the sea. The rooms were immaculate and everything we needed was provided including a kettle at a small extra cost. There was an extensive choice of cold and hot food at breakfast. We chose the a la carte menu on several evenings and the ample delicious portions were very reasonably priced. The beautiful grounds are well kept and full of stunning tropical vegetation. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We look forward to a return visit.

We arrived in Tenerife early afternoon on Monday 24th February, having feared that our flight would be cancelled due to the huge sandstorm that had raged over the previous 2 days, but we were fortunate.
Our first impression of Hotel Tigaiga was favourable, however once in our room, and unpacking, warm air was coming out of the vent, and attempting to turn the air conditioning on, failed. A quick walk down to reception, and it was explained to me that in fact the hotel did not have a full air conditioning system, ie (When it was very hot) it could be activated, and otherwise it was off. This is extremely unsatisfactory, as the website states quite misleadingly "Air conditioning" as a feature of the hotel.
We had opted for Half Board option, and the breakfast was excellent (Although the selection of bread could have been fresher, and not feel as it had been defrosted that morning), but we had only one evening meal, which was poor. Thus we decided in the evenings to use the A la Carte restaurant(At extra cost ), which was fine on our first night, but went steadily downhill after that. The waiting staff did not seem to have a good command of English, and after seating us at the table and taking our drinks order, tended to disappear for 10/15 minutes. One of the management team, Ursula, sampled the tasteless ravioli on one occasion and agreed with our negative comments.
Food apart, the hotel is a delightful place to stay and set in wonderful tropical gardens, which had been badly damaged in the sandstorm, but were very swiftly being restored to normal by a dedicated team of gardeners.
The owners, three siblings, are of Germanic descent, and a significant majority of the clientele are from their homeland, which manifests itself in what seems excellent German being spoken by the staff. The ladies on the Reception Desk all had faultless English and could not have been more helpful.
There are some absolutely charming little touches, such as a greeting design on our table cloth at breakfast on my wife's birthday, together with a card and book. Also on our departure day bon voyage design at breakfast. So thoughtful and unusual.
But then a couple of silly negatives, a small daily charge to use the safe in our bedroom and no bottled water provided (We had been told by a member of staff that the tap water in our room was not for drinking)
We would certainly return, but take all meals outside of the hotel, except for breakfast, and hope the Air Conditioning tag is removed from the website. New chefs and menu planning would be welcome.
I have noticed that managerial comments on previous reviews only concentrated on the positives, and didn't react to negative criticism!!

On our first visit to Puerto De la Cruz we were lucky to choose Hotel Tigaiga for our holiday. This is a smallish family run hotel, on the hillside above Puerto De la Cruz with lovely gardens and pool area, with views of the city and the sea.
We thought the hotel was exceptional because we felt that the owners and all the staff were genuinely interested in their guests and in promoting their hotel by doing things right, rather than just by marketing. We do not usually consider visiting the same hotel twice but we will make an exception for this hotel.
We stayed bed and breakfast and visited the a la carte restaurant in the hotel on two occasions. On all the other days we walked down to the city for dinner and back up the hill afterwards.
The range of choice and the quality of the breakfast in the hotel were excellent, I particularly liked the omelette which was cooked on request by the Chef. Sitting outside in the sunshine for breakfast was just what we needed and seeing the family members talking to guests and making sure everything was right during breakfast was an example of why we thought this hotel provided an exceptional experience.
The staff at the pool were really helpful, providing mattresses, pool towels and a parasol when you arrived at the pool and keeping everything looking lovely.
The staff that cleaned the rooms were really friendly and pleasant and we particularly liked the option to hang an eco day notice on your door if you didn’t want you room to be made up every day.
The a la carte restaurant provided high quality dishes at a reasonable cost and we enjoyed our visits there.
On one day a huge bunch of bananas was hung outside reception with a knife for guests to help themselves and it lasted about 3 days.
The walk from the hotel to the city is quite strenuous, my Garmin watch said the climb back up to the hotel was 350m but we enjoyed the challenge.
On our last day we were waiting at the front of the hotel for our transfer pickup and one of the family members came to chat to us and ask how we had enjoyed our stay, why did we choose Hotel Tigaiga above all the other hotels and about our journey home, another example of why we felt this hotel was exceptional in comparison to some of the bigger corporate hotels that we have visited.
There was only one slight negative during our stay which was the poor wifi signal in our room which we have suggested in our feedback to the hotel as an area for improvement. The wifi was very good around the hotel and by the pool, however.
We would recommend this exceptional hotel to anyone who likes a quiet relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

We booked for a week in half term for our family of 4 and have been very happy with the choice. This seems to market itself to mainly older German tourists, I am in my 50th and definitely felt like one of the younger crowed. We did however make a positive choice to choose this hotel because it seemed much more tranquil than many of the more family orientated hotels we looked at.

The breakfast was one of the best I have had at any hotel, buffet style with a huge range of choice. The only disappointment was the bacon which was a bit limp and greasy (I like mine crisp) but still a 5 star breakfast. The “a la carte” restaurant was also very good and not overpriced and we had several very enjoyable meals there.

The real selling point of this hotel is the gardens in which it is set which are lovely and tranquil and amazing views over the town, it really is possible to spend all day in the hotel and not get stir crazy!

The only real negative point is that they don’t have kettles in the room or a fridge so there is no way to keep drinks cold. We got a bucket of ice from the kitchen to cool some cans of coke we bought but they charged me €2 for the ice which left a negative feeling.
Plus points
Quiet
Very pleasant and secluded grounds
heated pool
Good restaurant

Minus points
No tea or coffee making facilities in room.
No fridge in room or any ice making machines so no way to cool any drinks you might buy in the local supermarket.
Limited opening times of bar (clases at 11pm.
Charge €1.5 a day for the safe in the room which is a bit petty.

My brother and I stayed in the apartment block adjacent to the hotel. The apartment ,two bedrooms large open plan kitchen lounge with a fantastic balcony overlooking the beautiful tropical garden and swimming pool. Watched the birds at eye level feeding of the fruit on the trees magical. A good breakfast catering for all tastes and service excellent. In the evening we had dinner in the a la cart restaurant great flavour to all the dishes we tried and the service excellent.
The hotel has panoramic views over the bay and wonderful Mount Teide .If you are there when John Lucas gives his talk of the history of Tenerife don't miss it quite fascinating.
After dinner we watched flamenco dancers one evening and on another evening listened to Spanish guitar and harp beautifully preformed.
During the mornings we visited, the port ,the gallery of modern art,Sitio Litre, the English library and a day trip to La Laguna .We enjoyed our walk down but took a taxi back which only cost 4 euros
On a number of afternoons had a swim in the lovely pool.
The gardens of the hotel are so beautiful every corner gives a surprise and Carolina's garden special.
Had a wonderful stay at Tigaiga and hope to return

We can't praise this wonderful family-owned hotel enough in every aspect of its long established operation in a quiet and gorgeous parkland location above the Puerto of Puerto de La Cruz.

The rooms, the food, the charm and enthusiasm of the experienced management and loyal staff are all exceptionally and so refreshingly rewarding.

The clientele, mainly German and British, are a friendly bunch but who respect your privacy, the pool service is excellent and both in the a la carte restaurant and the main dining room you can eat outdoors under the palms of the well kept gardens if you ask to do that.

The current young family members who run the hotel so enthusiastically well
can't do enough for the guests, whom they treat as individuals with individual tastes to ensure you get the best from your experience, including really high quality musical entertainments, and help finding just the venues and shops etc you especially would like.

No mass herding of guests here but plenty of good old fashioned service of a kind that has disappeared from so many places today.

On top of all these virtues the hotels prices are relatively modest for such an impressive place.

One slight downside:
If you know Puerto you will know that it's quite a descent on foot to the City and sea shore but a taxi back up to the hotel is only about 2.5 euros. So its not perfect for say, a wheelchaired guest who has not hired a car.

We spent a week in the hotel and it was truly great. The location of the hotel i in the north facing hillside providing a beautiful view of the whole bay, hotel gardens and neighboring park.

Rooms are very spacious and any view, either garden or ocean is gorgeous. Soundproofing of the rooms is frankly luxurious.

Wi-Fi is quite unstable (on balcony you get full signal), but that is the price of brick walls and improved soundproofing.
Take the half-board, the hillside access is pretty steep and there is not too many markets/shops in the nearby area.

Both breakfast and dinners consists are respecting ingredients.

Breakfast is a open buffet with huge variety of options, while dinners are 3-4 course menus, where you can choose from fish or meat, plus you can an open vegetarian/salad buffet.

This is a solid well run hotel. It is a bit old-fashioned, and the decor could use some refurbishing, but the location is good in the swimming pool marvelous. While the bathrooms have clearly been renovated, the rest of the living quarters in our room had not been. We would have liked to have a small fridge in the room, but we only found out that we could request one when we departed. Apparently, the management got rid of the mini fridges as an ecological/conservation measure, but they will return one to your room if you request it. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk down the hill to the center of the city and to many restaurants. Just remember that the return trip will be uphill! Also, the hotel charges extra for parking, even though their lot is outdoors and right next to the hotel. We managed to find free parking in a lot for the park that is across from the hotel, but really a hotel of this caliber should make it easier for clients to park for free. Nevertheless, we had a very nice stay and we even got free fruit juices as we lolled around the pool.

Had a fantastic time here, everything was spot on and the staff were first class. We had a third floor Mountain View room and the sunsets viewed from the balcony were spectacular.
Breakfast was excellent and the a La crate evening meal which we had twice was good but the restaurant was very quiet and perhaps a little lacking in atmosphere.
The pool and gardens were maintained to a very high standard and there was never a feeling of it being busy, always plenty of space and available beds.
We hired a fridge for our room which was really useful and paid for secure parking which again made life much easier for us.
We would certainly hope to return, thank you for a relaxing 11 days and perfect weather which was a bonus.

This is a wonderful hotel – not the most expensive, nor is it one with the most facilities, but if you’re looking for a relaxing experience away from the multinational chains and their impersonal service, look no further. Hotel Tigaiga is family run, and the staff act as if they are part of that family: friendly, helpful and professional, they always appear to have time for you and for answering any questions. As my birthday occurred while we were here, they even gave me card and a beautifully wrapped present! Everyone we dealt with from reception, to cleaning, to waiters and management all seemed to be pulling in the same direction: to please the customer not just their bosses. The building itself is nothing special (though thankfully low-rise: only 3 stories) but it’s well designed and decorated inside, and set in its own gorgeous, extensive tropical gardens. Opposite the hotel is a small park with a network of trails that were well used when we were there by dog walkers and runners prepping for the upcoming Santa Cruz marathon. Despite giving the sensation that you’re miles away from the hustle and bustle of the town visible below, the walk down is quite short (although it feels far longer on the way back after a couple of cervezas!). Breakfasts are excellent (a huge array of breads, pastries, cereals, yoghurts, meats, cheeses as well as the option of cooked) and they were happy to offer me oat milk for my coffee as an alternative to the usual long life dairy milk. They’re very good on little touches that remind you they’re independent, such as the little decorative individual flower blooms dotted around the bathroom, and the huge bunch of bananas fresh off the tree hanging outside reception of you to help yourself. We had dinner twice at the waiter service restaurant (there’s a separate buffet for those on half board) and we both agreed that the food was better than any of the places we ate at in town.
If there is one criticism, it is that the restaurant and its accompanying bar service were clearly understaffed; trying to attract anyone’s attention to get a table or to order a drink – or even to ask for la quenta - was often greeted with a look of panic, or a look away to avoid eye contact. The separate bar behind reception wasn’t staffed at all – drinks had to be brought up from the restaurant bar which must have been even more panicky for the staff down there! However, if you prefer to have your drinks delivered pronto, Alberto’s Bar and Terraza Taoro are both a hop and a skip away and both have great views of the town and the setting sun. We left after 5 days wishing we’d booked for longer – we’ll definitely be back!
