It’s our third time at this hotel and once again it was great! The rooms are spacious with plenty of room. The food is excellent, absolutely lots of choice and many deserts! The pool area and facilities were good considering the time of year! Could’ve done without the thunderstorms!

Parking a massive problem in the area. Had to park a good walk from apartment. For this reason. Would not suit someone disabled or not so able bodied. Street can be very noisy at night. Which disrupts sleep. Give it a miss.

We visited Tenerife from 7 to 18 Nov 2017. I hope this review helps future guests make a balanced judgement on whether to stay at Palmeras Playa, Avenida Venezuela – or at least ask the right questions before booking. We booked last minute and believe we were misled by our Airbnb host regarding the swimming pool. The 'bedrooms' in this former hotel (?shut 2015?) have been sold off to make individual studio apartments, which seem to be owned by a number of private individuals. There is no reception and no hotel facilities. The former facilities on the first floor, including café, pools, sports court, kiddies playground, sauna, etc are closed. We understand there is still a laundry (coin operated) although we didn’t see it. The common parts are cleaned (we saw cleaners in action) and we saw what we assumed was a night security man mid-late evening. The accommodation at Palmeras Playa appears on several of the usual websites. The studio we rented was through an Airbnb host, a foreign national now resident on Tenerife. It was clean, modern and well equipped. Plus points: Palmeras Playa is very convenient for the town, surfing beach and Lago Martianez and everything is in walking distance including a large supermarket and patisserie. There is an underground car park (our garage was only wide enough for a VW Polo - so check with your host!). The views from our balcony (which faces the dual carriageway) were great - sea & mountains. The building/neighbours were very quiet. There were a handful of other tourists and perhaps some long term residents. Not many studios were occupied. Minus points: The swimming pool is CLOSED for refurbishment. Our host included it in the apartment’s Amenities and other owners of studios at Palmeras Playa (advertising on Trip Adviser and other sites) are still showing photos of the adult and children’s pool full of water – they are EMPTY! This means there is no communal outside space for relaxation, sunbathing & socialising. There were no workmen round the pool, and no notice in the lobby saying how long it would be closed. The nearest hotels don’t allow non-residents access to their pools – we checked. The alternative is to pay 5.50 Euros each to use Lago Martianez – open ‘winter hours’ from 10 am to 5 pm (sunset 7.00 pm). We killed cockroaches in the kitchen, wardrobes and bathroom throughout our 11 days, despite disinfecting the cupboards and sealing all food items. There were traps, ultrasonic devices and spray, so our host was aware of the problem. The studio was clean when we arrived, but I understand cockroaches are a problem on Tenerife – and it is not a new building. It was an unpleasant experience. The road noise travels up and the road is active 24 hours a day - it's an arterial route. We expected some noise, but we live in the country at home & found it difficult to sleep. The sea is understandably noisy if it's windy and there is a swell, which compounds the problem. The alternative is to close the balcony door, but it's the only secure ventilation - other windows open onto the landing, but we didn’t feel comfortable having them open at night. We were not informed of the evacuation procedure in case of fire and it’s a 12 storey building – so make a note of your nearest exit etc. There appeared to be wired in smoke detectors in the apartment and on the landings. Our apartment had no fire extinguisher, but there are some on the landings and emergency alarms. Whilst not a problem currently the building behind Palmeras Playa is completely derelict and may be refurbished/demolished at some point. In summary, everyone is individual and has different requirements from their holiday. We stay fairly active and our hols usually include a few pre-breakfast lengths to wake us up; and a dip at the end of a day’s sightseeing - swim, beer, relax . . . luxury. We booked a pool and expected a pool. Our host has not been particularly sympathetic and claims it was our misunderstanding combined with Airbnb’s use of the phrase ‘shared pool’, which the host understood meant a nearby public pool or the sea. Puerto de la Cruz is lovely, well worth a visit and we would not hesitate to return.

Have stayed here many times and like the friendly staff, some have been there for years, and the situation close to many restaurants and shops etc. New owners maybe don´t know, it costs money to make money, so there are things, that are annoying and could be changed for a small amount. Needs anti slip mats in the bath. We bought one ourselves! Needs new normal platicchairs on the balcony with armrests, you could sit relaxed in. Breakfastroom is a bit chaotic with 2 coffee machines- the 1 broke down every day, we stayed there. Staff had to try to repair it many times. Small coffee cups and not a pot, so if you wanted more than 1 small cup, you had to go from back of the room to 1 of the coffemachines 2-3 times and hope it worked. Buy some 1 Euro pots or mugs, and get a new machine. Maybe make the one lift only running f. ex from groundfloor and then 6-11th floor. Free wi-fi in the lobby must be upgraded. Give walkie-talkies to the cleaning ladies, so they don’t have to use a lot of time running to the telephone in the corner of each floor. We will come back at a time and hope some maintenance then has been done to this place.

Firstly let me start by saying this hotel is rated a 3star well this certainly is not the case! 1star is about all i could give to this hotel, the hotel is date & rundown paint peeling off all the walls, and as for all inclusive this should be half board only, the service is appalling, the staff rude, and the bar in the lobby was only open in the evening the sign say's 10-11,00 hrs & then you had to wait all the time as the staff were always doubling up everywhere, there were no snacks through out the day only at meal times, the food was appalling!!you got very little choice 4 trays of hot(not)& 4 of cold there were cockroaches in dinning room and in food!and when you complained they were not interested, the pool bar was only open from 10 30 till 1pm as closed for 2hrs and they never came bk on time while we where there there was a work man who came & started cementing the side of the pool when people were swimming &walking about no signs were put up to say beware, ( disgrace!!!hazard!!,)The entertainment was a joke one eve out of wk with man on a piano rubbish!!The rooms were run down & shabby towels were not changed every day we had to throw them on the floor in the end to get them changed as was the same for the bed linen they just pull up same sheets, the toilet was dirty and decor peeling of walls & light fittings ,and kitchen the fridge was covered with rust and the sideboards had dirt arond them hence we had animals crawling everywhere. All in All this place should be shut down and revampt to the standard it advertise's 3star !!!!.

When we arrived the room was dated but clean, fab view of the beach from the balcony but also of a derelict building. Room was cleaned every day, clean towels and beds made so couldn't fault that. Food was very basic and mainly salads, bread rolls were more like brick rolls most days. Selection was poor and most of the cooked food was dry especially the chips. 2 days before we came home there was a cockroach in the dinning area on one of the tables that put me off my dinner, that evening there was a cockroach in the coleslaw that i put on my plate needless to say we didn't eat there for the rest of our stay. Dinner time the bar by the pool would close from one till two thirty and no snacks were provided, therefore we would have to get dressed and go to the dinning area for a drink or food and had to stay there to eat or drink it and to add insult to injury when the pool bar was open most of the time the staff wouldn't be there leaving you to wait up to half an hour until the returned. Some of the staff were very pleasant especially the lifeguard, the others need to work on their people skills. The beds were like bricks and contributed to waking up many times uncomfortable. All in all i would never go there again no matter what, as in the beginning i thought the reviews i read were over exaggerated and people were expecting too much for the price they had paid but by day 4 i couldn't wait to get home and thought it was an absolute dive. No entertainment for guests but local events and activities for people who lived in the area throughout the week. I believe the fact that you have already paid makes them think it doesn't matter any way!!! Most of the british customers that i spoke to throughout the week also felt the same.

This hotel is not worth the money you pay to stay there. The food was awful, I am aware that different people have different tastes, but, I can only give my opinion. The hotel mainly caters for German and Spanish tourists. There was no entertainment in the evenings for the whole week that I stayed there. For an all inclusive holiday that I paid for, there were no snacks available as you would expect, the coffee machine which was in the restaurant was switched off after breakfast as was the orange juice machine, therefore non was available after breakfast, unless you bought your own and made it yourself in your room. The room itself was ok, apart from the bathroom which had, the paint flacking off the units and shelves, the fridge was covered in rust, and the balcony had pieces of plaster missing. I was given clean towels every day, the only problem was that the towels I was given on more than 1 occasion had holes in them or were old and fraying at the bottom. When booking this hotel it stated there were hair dryers in the rooms so I didn't take mine, only to find out that you have to hire a hair dryer from reception at the cost of 2 Euros a day, which doesn't sound a lot, but if a web site states that it is in the room then why should you have to pay extra for it???. The staff work hard and were friendly enough, but this did not make up for the rest of it. The location is perfect and Puerto de la Cruz itself was lovely.

Having read the many negative reviews, we still decided to give this hotel a try. And we were very pleasantly surprised. The staff worked hard and were most helpful - the reception staff, the waiters and waitresses in the dining room, and the room cleaners all made efforts to satisfy our needs. Yes, one person did frequently double-up as bar-person and helping in the restaurant but this was not too inconvenient. We stayed on half-board terms and believe that this is the best option. Breakfast was from 07:30 until 09:30; lunch was from 12:00 to 14:00; dinner was from 19:00 to 21:00. Quite acceptable. The self-service format worked very well - and it was frequently fun trying to learn what something was called with Spanish, German, Italian, Rumanian, French, Belgian, Scottish, Welsh and other English Guests. The selection of main-course food was adequate without being top class, but remember we were not paying 5-star prices. Our main disappointment was that the dessert selection was poor. And, for our convenience, the receptionist, Raphael, stated that if, on any day, we wished to exchange lunch for dinner, we only had to let him know. Our room was spacious and clean and we had a large balcony with views of the sea one way and Mount Tiede the other. The beds were large and comfortable. The bed linen, although a little old, was well laundered and clean. The towels were old but were quite usable. And the room was well cleaned every morning and the towels, bath and hand, changed every day. So, in conclusion, our experience of the Palmeras Playa was quite satisfactory. If we had wanted a 5-star hotel we would have chosen one and paid the appropriate price! We don't know what some people expect for the amount of money they pay . . . there is no pleasing some people.

Booked this as a last minute holiday through a well known travel firm. We were sold it as all inclusive but as previous reviews have stated there were no snacks or ice creams for children during the day, meals were at set times & were rather limited in choice. We arrived late at night having had a delayed flight & had missed the evening meal, no food had been left for us so we asked at reception about getting a bottle of water & were directed to a vending machine in the foyer as the bar closed at 11pm. Meals are repetitive & consist of unusual combinations - one morning the hot buffet consisted of eggs, beans & cooked carrots! All meals were geared around continental tastes & salads often had meat in so a bit difficult for my vegetarian companion to eat other than bread rolls & pudding. Although the staff were friendly, we were often ignored at the bar in preference of Spanish guests. All drinks are served in plastic cups & we were refused a bottle of water to take to our room - we could take 2 cups though! Bottled water was sold to guests on half or full board so seemed a bit daft, especially as they could see we didn't drink alcohol. Branded spirits were displayed in the bar but a charge was made for these, only the local equivalent was available on the all inclusive package so this resulted in a few disgruntled guests. The hotel was clean but basic & dated, a torn pillow case left on the pillow for 3 days despite being pointed out to the room attendant. Ideally located for the sea front & shops. I would stop here again if room only were an option as there are 3 supermarkets near by & eating out wasn't that expensive. Wifi available free in the lobby but a charge made for irons, hair dryer & safe. I didn't feel the hotel was very good value for money but would certainly return to Puerto de la Cruz as it is a beautiful area & a little more genteel than some of the other resorts on the island.
