I would avoid this hotel at all costs. I don’t normally post reviews, as I’m not normally one to push my opinions on other people but I dont feel like what I booked, and what I got, where the same things. There are 2 sides to this hotel. 1 of them is horrendous, the 2nd is marginally better. Our first room was one of the rooms that are below ground level. The corridor was pitch black with the most pathetic excuses for lights I’ve ever seen. Once we got in the room it was tiny, claustrophobic and practically on the edge of a cliff, with a giant pillar in the middle of the room making it feel even smaller. The reception staff are the rudest people I’ve come across, if you weren’t Spanish or German, they weren’t interested and very dismissive even though their description is that they are very ‘warm and treat guests like friends’. They told us they’d maybe be able to exchange our room for a price the following day. At this point we were prepared to pay anything to move and actually almost booked flights home for the following morning (it’s really that bad). The 2nd room we got the following day was above ground level and had more space in the room and better balcony. Genuinely the only compliments that I can summon is that it is relatively clean, the breakfast choice is ok and some of the wider staff into the hotel are nicer. The hotel is located on an extremely steep hill, so when it describes an easy walk to here or there, if you have mobility issues, or not particularly fit, I wouldn’t bother. It’s 125 steps down to get to shops or restaurants (yes we counted) and then you have to go back up those 125 steps and the steep hill to get back to the hotel. I didn’t find any of this information on the website or on the agents website we booked through. I am baffled how this is classed as a luxury hotel, or how it’s classed as 4 star, or how it has positive reviews on trip advisor. It wasn’t particularly expensive, but regardless of this I would look somewhere else if you can afford too. If you have booked here, don’t expect any basic form of customer service because you won’t get it from anywhere, not even just in the hotel. To summarise, we’d been checked in all of 3 minutes and I was looking for the earliest flight home the following morning, and was prepared to fly anywhere in the uk just to get home.

We were a little concerned having booked this hotel for a three week stay , as a couple of the latest reviews were terrible. However our fears were unfounded and we enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and well appointed, the buffet style food ( we were half board) very good and varied and the staff very friendly and helpful. The ladies who cleaned the rooms everyday did an excellent job,, as did the restaurant staff, special shout out to Pedro, the restaurant manager who did a great job and was always smiley and friendly! Also , a special mention of the pool guy who kept the pool and surrounding area immaculate and was always happy to bring a sunshade whenever we asked. We thought this area with its beautiful rose beds and great views was the nicest part of the hotel. One slight negative was reception,at check in we mentioned that we were celebrating our 25th anniversary during our stay. This fell on deaf ears, he really didn’t want to know. I wasn’t expecting any special treatment, just an acknowledgment would have been nice. The only other slight issues were the orange ‘juice’ at breakfast was a powder mix out of a machine which was awful and the evening entertainment was poor. These minor niggles apart, we had an enjoyable stay and will almost certainly return

Room Tip: Parking. There are only about a dozen spaces at the hotel so this can be difficult!

I think that this is the sixth time that me and my partner have stayed at El Tope. There are many reasons we keep coming back. Some of these mightn't mean it's best for you, but it certainly works for us. The staff are consistently welcoming, friendly, courteous and helpful - the cleaners, reception, bar and restaurant - all deserve a mention for their demeanour and effort. The pool is small by other hotels standards, but certainly big enough for a refreshing dip and a bit of exercise. We find the food - we go all inclusive - to be of a standard that you really don't have to eat out unless you're craving a change of surroundings. Of particular note, the grill chef offers a choice of cooked to order fish or meat option that changes every night. I also like the fresh soups they prepare everyday - definitely not just made with what's left over from the day before. Fresh fruit, salad and local/Spanish specialities are also a treat, especially in November! Puerto de la Cruz isn't overly busy, but it's real Spain and there are plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you entertained and interested. The nearest (well stocked) supermarket is less than 5 minutes walk away, and the seafront about 5 minutes further. I think it's worth paying a little extra for a seaview or private veranda room, but it's certainly not essential. The rooms we've had have been consistently clean, spacious and well maintained. Entertainment - well there's no pool area 'animacion' or bangin out music - which we really appreciate - but if you do want activity leaders, then this mightn't be the place for you. I'm probably a little fussy regarding evening entertainment, so I'll just say that there is an act on each night, but I consider it background music whilst enjoying a drink, rather than something that really grabs my attention. This is a great place to stay if you want to relax, unwind and not have to try to hard. It mightn't tick all of your boxes, but it certainly ticks ours.

We are at this hotel now and loving it, when we arrived we had a room on -3 floor there was a problem with the lock so we couldn't get in, the sweet ladies on reception tried to unlock to no avail so gave us an upgrade to a huge sea view room with a large terrace on level 1 at, no extra cost, we are here bed and breakfast so can't comment on all inclusive but there is a huge selection at breakfast to choose from, the hotel is spotlessly clean all the staff are friendly and helpful and as I said before the two ladies on reception are lovely

We loved our stay at El tope! Staff were all friendly and helpful, special mention to Martin, Pedro and Ivan who were all lovely and very helpful, and helped a lot despite our very limited Spanish. Something to work on for next time for us! Whole hotel, room and pool were spotlessly clean, lovely view from the room, we were in a sea view room on the 6th floor and it was exactly as pictured in the listing. Only issue we saw was quite a few options in the buffet had nuts in them but weren’t clearly labelled so wouldn’t be ideal for someone with a nut allergy, all fine for us however. We were half board and the breakfast and dinner buffets were good, better than you would expect from a traditional all inclusive buffet. Quite steep hill to reach the hotel but that seems to be the standard in the area and didn’t bother us, resulted in lovely views in the hotel so can’t complain. The pool area was well maintained, not too busy and very relaxing to lounge by with a cocktail. Lovely all round!

Hand on heart this is the WORST hotel we have ever stayed at. We were treated like 2nd class citizens from the get go. We arrived at 10pm after a delayed tui flight. When I enquired about food at check in I was directed to the local Burger King. We were then directed to our rooms. In the basement (-3) dark and dingey corridors which smelt of damp. We passed a dead coackroach on the stairs (it remained there for 3 days) the room itself was large - it smelt of damp and when we pulled the curtain back we were horrified to discover no balcony and over looking the road. I killed 3 bugs in the bathroom before I went to bed. Breakfast choice was plentiful - fruit, cereal pastries salads cheeses cold meats. Hot food pretty disgusting. The scrambled eggs were sweet, the English sausages were boiled but anything German was cooked properly. The pool was not heated, which wasn’t a problem given how hot the weather was, not really suitable for little kids as the shallow area was deep. Plenty of sun loungers and a very attentive lifeguard who assisted with parasols. The pool bar was inside. Which is where you had to get drinks from. My child got shouted at to get out as her feet were wet from the pool by the very rude bar staff. We weren’t all inclusive. Thank god. The pool snacks were put out in the morning and left there allllll day (fries, pizza, hot dogs chicken nuggets) We chose not to eat in the restaurant in the evening as there was plenty of choice a 5 min walk away so can’t comment on that. The entertainment at night was bloody dire. One night a man playing along to 80s music on his sax and another night a woman who couldn’t play the harp. The final straw was a woman who couldn’t sing for toffee but get it a good shot. The cleaning staff were lovely, very friendly and can’t fault them. It’s funny though it wasn’t until our last day we discovered if you didn’t have a room in the basement you got to walk up a marble staircase to your room! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my worst enemy - I don’t hate anyone enough to. Suprised it’s a tui hotel tbh

The hotel doesn’t look anything like the pictures. It isn’t a 4 star hotel what so ever. There wasn’t a great selection for food. They have very minimal options which repeat daily. There hardly any options for a vegetarian either. In terms of drinks, there was only 1 beer option and a few cocktails included in the all inclusive. They have stated that they’re close to a beach but don’t be fooled as this beach is rocky and mainly for surfers. Not a lot of tourists in this area so not much to do or see. Even the local food places close early so if you’re planning to go out/ eat late, it isn’t a great here. The staff were lovely however and service was completely fine.

Well where to begin !!! The first room we were given (204) no terrace even though we paid extra for this when booking. Once I complained we got given room 116. This was just the beginning of the most awful place we have ever stayed. CONS OF ROOM 1. Hole in the front of the door 2. Water leaking from above when stood at the door getting room card out to unlock it 3. Grab rail in shower loose. Should have 2 screws each side and only has one each side. 4. Something splattered up the inside of the bathroom door (vomit ??) room cleaned five days out of seven and never once was the door cleaned. 5. Rusty bin and loo roll holder on bathroom 6. Rusty lamp and wall lights in room 7. Lack of hangers in wardrobe (9 for two people) 8. Safe in room but you have to pay even if all inc 9. Two screws sticking out of redundant switches next to bed. Health hazard !! 10. Every light lamp shade in room all marked 11. Beds not changed all week 12. Air con vent FULL of dust - what the hell have I been breathing in 13. Basically room dated cushions on chairs sun faded CONS OF RESTAURANT 1. All inclusive and can only have a bottle of water at lunch and dinner time. Being diabetic I can only have diet/sugar free and do not like coke therefore nothing for me to drink 2. Food choices APPALLING!! (That’s being nice) if your Spanish or German you will love the food. 3. Choice of (would like to call it hot food but it’s not hot) food Saturday dinner, baby squid, veal, rabbit paella, squid rings. 4. Breakfast, plastic sausage, plastic bacon, no mushrooms ever sloppy scrambled egg and griddled egg with a snotty white and orange yoke. 5. Pool bar food dry burgers, greasy fries, and no plates to put them on. 6. Themed nights for dinner but NEVER a British night and that has come from the mouth of a member of staff STEFANIE ALL OTHER CONS 1. Nothing to do in hotel I.e entertainment horrendous the bar in the evening like a mortuary…… 2. On their website it states all inc bar from 10.30 am until midnight but when there they say no you pay after 11pm 3 there is a pool table but it’s 1€ per game 4. The staff are rude ESPECIALLY Leo. What a horrible rude man. Shouted at a child that was sat on a lounger (his father had nipped to the loo) Leo snatched his plate of food off him. Young boy left in tears 6/7 year old. 5. Website shows outdoor beers served in plastic cups when in fact they are paper cups. 6. Tables at sunloungers filthy drink slops and what not and covered in minute midgies. 7. If you want to change your lounger towels it’s 50cents each Paid £1900 for an all inclusive holiday and spent nearly £1000 buying food and drink out of the hotel. I hate to complain but the nicest thing about this hotel was leaving it !!!!! I don’t expect a response from the hotel as I have noticed they only reply to the positive reviews. DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL COSTS !!!!!!!

This hotel is NOT 4* by any stretch of the imagination. It caters mostly for Spanish and German nationals in my opinion. They advertise show cooking but we saw none in our week long stay. If you have children there is literally nothing to keep them entertained apart from the swimming pool which is 115 cm at its shallowest. No evening entertainment for them and the pool table is €1 per game!! The nice rooms on the photos are only available in a couple of room numbers and most are as per my photographs. The air conditioning vent in our room is a health hazard! A lot of the staff are downright rude and one in particular Leo was a joke. The all inclusive is not worth the extra money and the pool bar has no paper plates to take items to the pool as you CANNOT take the crockery outside. Do not even attempt it!! The hotel website stated all inclusive drinks until midnight but it is only 11pm. No late nights here I’m afraid. I will not be back even if it was free.
