This hotel is a little gem in the heart of Santa Cruz old town. It is a lovely fusion of old and new. Our room was in the old building, but had all the modern facilities that you would expect and was really quiet - the town is quiet in any case, but once the door was shut it was completely peaceful. The room was spacious the bed a king size and a good size bathroom with decent (German level of) shower pressure. The staff at the hotel are really friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was fantastic - buffet style continental breakfast with boiled eggs and as much (really nice) coffee as you can drink on request. During the day a bean to cup coffee machine was available for guests as well as fresh fruit and cakes/biscuits and tea. We used the roof top sun terrace a few times as well as the room’s own balcony. The sun is on the terrace all morning, and then as the afternoon progresses it moves into shadow. At night the terrace and courtyard are lit by candles - beautiful. The hotel is a short walk from the sea front (from the roof top terrace you look out over a few buildings and then the sea and, on a clear day, Tenerife in the background. We ate at a couple of local restaurants (La Lonja, La Placeta, La Chalana) all great (fresh fish, etc) and sensibly priced compared to the UK. The music and dance classes across the square along the road provide a great background vibe into the evening for both the hotel and La Chalana restaurant (but they do stop before bedtime!) We hired a car - recommended to see the island, but: -the roads on the island, while very well built and maintained, have plenty of sharp turns as the zigzag up and down the mountain -in (the old) town the streets are narrow (tip: hire a small car) -the hotel has on street parking and sometimes the closest space was a 5min walk away, but we always got a space (tip: hire a small car). Summary: a brilliant base for exploring the island - we will be back.

We had a pleasant stay at Hotel San Telmo but echo some of the comments from previous guests. The rooms are lovely and clean and the views and terrace are beautiful. We also appreciated the complimentary coffee and fruit.
Sadly there are 2 cats on site that woke us up daily crying in the courtyard, this generally started at 04:00 AM and they were also allowed on all of the hotel furniture in shared and public areas (great if you love cats but a little restrictive if you are allergic to them as I am).
We stayed over NYE and the hotel isn’t really equipped for this at all. After we couldn’t find any parking the hotel didn’t respond to our email and on calling advised that they didn’t know what we should do and where we could leave our car. Parties started at midday and finished at 05:30 AM and sadly the rooms are not remotely soundproof.
The first night of our stay was a Saturday and also very loud with bangers being let off and a party which went on until 02:00 AM.
We had breakfast on the first day but as per the reviews from other guests felt that it was a little overpriced for what was available.

This is a very nice hotel, situated within 5 minutes walk to the central square in Santa Cruz. The receptionist is very helpful and they provide a water dispenser near the reception area. There is also an honesty bar so you can buy a beer and relax on the sun terrace at the end of the day. We stayed in the "Rooms Casa San Telmo" which is accessed via the hotel and is effectively at the back of the hotel. These rooms were quite spacious, like a mini apartment but they did lack natural light which wasn't a major problem but we found the room very noisy at night as you are below street level so you can hear people talking as they pass by and you hear the traffic quite a bit. Therefore I would say pick a room in the hotel.

We had a very comfortable 4 night stay in this small hotel. There are only 10 rooms. We had the room next to the reception which was large and had a balcony that overlooked the courtyard and terrace with views of the sea. The owners of the hotel, were very kind in allowing us to check in early and were able to recommend places to eat etc. We decided to have Continental breakfast each morning which was delicious and good value. You need to be fit to stay anywhere in the town as it is built on a hillside with steep cobbled streets and steps that go on forever! I would avoid the time of year when there is a festival called "Los Indianos" celebrating and remembering the islands ancestors who left the island to go to Venezuela and Colombia to earn money before returning back to La Palma. It is very noisy and white talcum powder is thrown about making everything very slippery. We arrived a few days after it and although the streets had been washed it was slippery underfoot.

Hotel San Telmo is a hidden jam in Santa Cruz de la Palma. We stayed here for 12 nights during our ‘escapefrombelgium’ holiday. For us it was the perfect base to discover the island. The hotel is in the city centre of the capital. This means you can walk to all restaurants in town. We also had never a problem to find a parking spot for our rental car.
Officially it’s a 2-star hotel but I would rate it as a very good 3-star hotel. For kindness and service we give it 5 shining stars. Bernhard, the owner, helped us with booking restaurants, gave information about the excursions and handled our laundry what was highly needed because we stayed much longer than originally planned.
The breakfast is really good with choice between different breads, 6 types of cheese and 6 types of meat, jams, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, fresh oranje juice and good coffee. You can also get a boiled egg.
We stayed in 1 of the 2 bigger studios because of the extra space. They are located on the ground floor so don’t expect a view. There are other rooms that even offer a view towards the ocean.
Our conclusion: if you are looking for a nice place, full of character with a good breakfast and excellent service, let hotel San Telmo be your choice!

this hotel is a really find. situated a short walk up the straits from the coastal road, it had everything we were looking for: spacious and clean room, with a very comfortable bed and decorated with taste, a small terrace catching the morning sun and a wonderful lounge and garden area, perfect for relaxing. the staff was very friendly and water, coffee, tea and fresh fruit were available at all times free of charge - a small gesture that makes all the difference. it made our stay even more enjoyable as we loved la palma and santa cruz. highly recommended.

Just got back from spending a week at the hotel with my son, we used it as a base to explore the island. The hotel is excellent, the staff lovely. The rooms are a good size and very clean. The breakfast was great as was the free fruit and water cooler to fill bottles prior to our trips. The honesty bar and outside terraces were ideal for relaxing in the evenings. The hotel is about a 10 min walk down into town for a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and pick up points for various island tours. We'll definitely be back.

This little hotel is gorgeous! My room was very nice with a nice bathroom and a small terrace, everything very clean. The patio and the roof are beautiful, there are fish, birds, a dog and two cats that always came to greet me 💗. The buffet breakfast is very rich, like having breakfast with the family. I loved my stay at this hotel and I will definitely return!

Make sure you read the cancellation policy before you book, especially in this COVID-19 affected world.
Our flights were cancelled due to governmental travel restrictions. Hence, we had to cancel our holiday but were already beyond the Hotel's free cancellation period which was 2 WEEKS before the check-in date!
All other hotels we booked on this trip refunded us despite their cancellation policies but not this one. Despite never stepping into this hotel, we lost nearly half our monthly salary to this hotel through no fault of our own whatsoever.

Response from STLP-Hoteles La Palma, Inhaber at Hotel San Telmo
Responded Sep 6, 2020
Dear Mr. Gupta, thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain the situation again. We have offered you to receive a voucher for the four nights you have booked with us. You agreed to that! After some time, you asked us to charge you for your reservation and send you the bill in order to get a replacement from your insurance company instead of getting a voucher. We fulfilled your wish. For any reason you asked later on to refund the paid amount of your booking. We offered you again a voucher, but you did not accept it. For the period of time your reservation was made, there was no travel ban from the UK or Spain. Guests from the UK continued to arrive and were very satisfied. Read the comment below from our guest Bev890! Stay healthy and all the best for you.

What a super nice hotel! We had a wonderful time here. Rooms are nicely decorated, good beds and super clean. The courtyard garden with terrace overlooking the sea is also beautiful, and especially cozy in the evening with the candles lit. Pure enjoyment with a good glass of wine, which you can also get in this hotel. Breakfast is also very neat and good. The owner and staff are very neat and helpful. And even the pets, the 2 cats and the dog, give you a warm welcome. In short, if you stay in La Palma, we would definitely recommend this hotel. Thank you for the good care and our beautiful stay.
