Those looking for a special place to feel good in La Palma will feel at home in the City Hotel San Telmo. The old house was built 350 years ago and was completely renovated as the hotel building was finished in 2008, complementing each other with style. Fully equipped with the best quality, attention to detail and an unusual location in the old town of Santa Cruz, the hotel offers both individual and business travellers many possibilities. At the Hotel San Telmo, the owners personally take care of you and make sure that you are having a nice stay.
Just got back from spending a week at the hotel with my son, we used it as a base to explore the island. The hotel is excellent, the staff lovely. The rooms are a good size and very clean. The breakfast was great as was the free fruit and water cooler to fill bottles prior to our trips. The honesty bar and outside terraces were ideal for relaxing in the evenings. The hotel is about a 10 min walk down into town for a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and pick up points for various island tours. We'll definitely be back.

this hotel is a really find. situated a short walk up the straits from the coastal road, it had everything we were looking for: spacious and clean room, with a very comfortable bed and decorated with taste, a small terrace catching the morning sun and a wonderful lounge and garden area, perfect for relaxing. the staff was very friendly and water, coffee, tea and fresh fruit were available at all times free of charge - a small gesture that makes all the difference. it made our stay even more enjoyable as we loved la palma and santa cruz. highly recommended.

Wonderful place to stay. Lovely modern rooms around old courtyard, staff are so friendly, great breakfast and really chilled atmosphere. Great touches like free fruit, hot drinks, water. Other hotels take note. Located in quiet quater high above ground level.. Close to the lift however. Can't recommend it more highly.

My wife and I spent a beautiful week lodged at San Telmo, when now finally being able to return to the beautiful island of my childhood for a nostalgy visit. The location (and ambient!) of the hotel is absolutely spot-on, when the travellers' intent was to enjoy the capital town Santa Cruz by foot. Access walking, right uphill from the O'Daly section of the Main street, is by the lovely historic Blas Simon stairs. Housing at San Telmo is neat, and historic in the well restored traditional merchants' house. The hotel's terrace (facing downtown and over the ocean) is just unforgettable. The tasty breakfast in the lobby / living room lounge is Continental Plus and delightfully made of local ingredients. To think of the only obvious downside, if everyday motoring is part of the holiday, parking is an issue in the old town. However that's not by any means the fault of the hotel, and is possible to tackle by smart search on the nearby streets.…

A lovely hotel with great staff. This only has a few rooms but we were well looked after and had a lovely room. I did ask for a seaview room but if you don’t have one you can sit on the terrace with very comfortable seating and enjoy the view and the cats and dog. We loved the breakfast. Very German, with fresh fruit salad, cheese and meat, yogourt, good bread and perfectly boiled eggs with happy chickens from a friend of the hotel owner. A few steps up to the hill but only a couple of minutes to the middle of the town. We would book again.

Hotel San Telmo is a hidden jam in Santa Cruz de la Palma. We stayed here for 12 nights during our ‘escapefrombelgium’ holiday. For us it was the perfect base to discover the island. The hotel is in the city centre of the capital. This means you can walk to all restaurants in town. We also had never a problem to find a parking spot for our rental car. Officially it’s a 2-star hotel but I would rate it as a very good 3-star hotel. For kindness and service we give it 5 shining stars. Bernhard, the owner, helped us with booking restaurants, gave information about the excursions and handled our laundry what was highly needed because we stayed much longer than originally planned. The breakfast is really good with choice between different breads, 6 types of cheese and 6 types of meat, jams, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, fresh oranje juice and good coffee. You can also get a boiled egg. We stayed in 1 of the 2 bigger studios because of the extra space. They are located on the ground floor so don’t expect a view. There are other rooms that even offer a view towards the ocean. Our conclusion: if you are looking for a nice place, full of character with a good breakfast and excellent service, let hotel San Telmo be your choice!…

Make sure you read the cancellation policy before you book, especially in this COVID-19 affected world. Our flights were cancelled due to governmental travel restrictions. Hence, we had to cancel our holiday but were already beyond the Hotel's free cancellation period which was 2 WEEKS before the check-in date! All other hotels we booked on this trip refunded us despite their cancellation policies but not this one. Despite never stepping into this hotel, we lost nearly half our monthly salary to this hotel through no fault of our own whatsoever.

Response from STLP-Hoteles La Palma, Inhaber at Hotel San Telmo
Responded Sep 6, 2020
Dear Mr. Gupta, thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain the situation again. We have offered you to receive a voucher for the four nights you have booked with us. You agreed to that! After some time, you asked us to charge you for your reservation and send you the bill in order to get a replacement from your insurance company instead of getting a voucher. We fulfilled your wish. For any reason you asked later on to refund the paid amount of your booking. We offered you again a voucher, but you did not accept it. For the period of time your reservation was made, there was no travel ban from the UK or Spain. Guests from the UK continued to arrive and were very satisfied. Read the comment below from our guest Bev890! Stay healthy and all the best for you.

Good location, nice rooms and a cozy roof terrace. I also had a beautiful small patio outside my room. The rooms were clean and spacious. The breakfast was also very nice. Close to everything in town. I will go back for sure!

This is a charming small hotel. Our room was lovely, the communal areas are great and the patio areas, beautiful. We thought breakfast each morning was lovely and plentiful. The hotel is also in an excellent position for walking into town ( 5 minute walk). The real test of people/businesses is how they cope when things go wrong or in an emergency. The way this hotel dealt with the CV outbreak and restrictions by the Spanish government was excellent. We were kept very well informed, everybody was very helpful and it was a great idea to use the restaurant next door for supplying takeaway meals, it made a real difference to our week when everywhere closed down. We will definitely return to this hotel and strongly recommend it.
