Hotel El Galeón is located on a privileged quiet place at the south boundary of the town, and it is easily recongnizable by the brick-red coloured building with a curved front. Thanks to this situation, the access to main road is close by, and the street on which the hotel lies sees little traffic. It offers the best starting point for guests looking to visit the town´s main streets as well as the shopping areas. It takes only a 10 minute walk to the main bus stop at the entrance of the historic old town. The inside car park has a direct access to the apartments, while up on top a sun terrace has commanding views of the port and hills. Due to the outstanding location, some apartments have also panoramic views.

Most amazing breakfasts- best ever, with homemade cakes and quiches alongside bacon and eggs, fruit, wonderful cheeses and ham. Very comfy large apartment with balcony. 10-15 minutes walk into the centre of town and the bus network. Charming helpful staff.

Stayed for 3 nights, Saturday to Tuesday. (BTW - pretty much all of Santa Cruz shuts at 1400hrs Saturday and doesn't open until 0800hrs Monday. Virtually no restaurants open). You do have basic cooking facilities and a kitchen area - which is fairly well equipped. Hotel is clean, staff friendly and any problems are sorted asap - it's an OK place. Biggest bonus is free secure underground parking. Breakfast is a pretty good spread - various hams, cheeses, fruit, smoothies, cereal, some bread and rolls (a little hard thou) no croissant- not even now and again. But it's a good stay. The minus to El Galeón is two fold. No.1 - Your views are of hillside with a couple of dilapidated buildings or the container port No.2 - The Hotel is situated at the top of a hill (quite a rise really), so any adventures into the main town area - about 0.4/0.5 miles would involve a hike back up to the hotel. A shame it's not at bottom of the hill, because parking in Santa Cruz is not an easy pastime. SO - you see the compromise - free safe parking 'v' the ease of wondering around the town. But overall it's very good if you have a car.

The hotel and rooms are fine with good breakfast, but the hotel is on the very edge of town up a long walk, overlooking the ugly nd noisy port. There was so much noise it was impossible to send any time in the room outside evening hours. Aldo a lot of banging/hammering going on within the hotel. NOISY. And not pretty at all. Much nice places in town and near the restaurants.

Dear Ms. or Mr Susemuse1001 We are really sorry to read your review and obviously it seems that your whole stay has been a very misfortunate one. We deeply regrett and apologise as it is not at all our style and neither our standards of service as you can read from other comments, for the mayority of our reviews are excellent and we can assure you that all our staff is highly committeed to achieve the excellence of service and exceed the expectations of all our Guests which it did not happened in your case and we are deeply concerned about it. All we can do it is to make sure it will not happen again as this counts as a big failure from our side and we can afford to loose clients like you. We can not fight if you consider the Harbour "ugly" or noisy, that's not true. With kind regards, The Management Team

My first impressions upon arriving at El Galeon were that it was simply an impersonal business type hotel with little flair, but after a few nights here on a long hiking trek on La Palma, the staff here helped me change my opinion. The location, while not particularly beautiful, is excellent as it is close enough to walk into town and is also quiet. As noted by others, the apartment style rooms lend themselves to having meals in the room which I did on a few occasions. The size of the room allows one to settle in and relax. Still, all of that pales in relation to the wonderful staff. Estella (Esther?) at the reception desk was so very helpful to me on numerous occasions. Once she helped me to utilize the hotel laundry to complete the very necessary task of cleaning my hiking clothing! She deserves a raise in salary! The breakfast room at El Galeon is also a treat. Yolanda is charge there and precisely at 7:30 she opens up a great buffet style room that allowed me to pack in the needed calories before a long day hiking. All in all, the El Galeon (especially the staff) proved that first impressions are not necessarily true.

We stayed here 3 nights in total, first 1 night on arrival day and then returning 4 days later staying for 2 nights before departing. Our rooms were both identical large apartment style self-catering rooms, this with a separate bedroom and bathroom then a more than large enough lounge and kitchen areas. All area were clean and comfortable and there’s a sofa with coffee table to watch the TV from and a balcony with a bit of a view depending on which room you're in with a table and chairs which was good on warm evenings sitting to have a beer. A good breakfast served downstairs with all the usual continental items. The building is just a short walk down the hill into the town to eat in evenings and there’s a supermarket not so far away to stock up on provisions, we made use of the self-catering facilities only to make a cup of morning tea and a packed lunch for our walks but there’s enough equipment and cups, plates, cutlery etc. in the kitchen to cook a full meal if desired. At the end of our break we were back again for 2 nights and were a little disappointed to see that the room was not cleaned or bed made up after the first night but apparently that’s usual for a couple of days per week as no room service is available on those days, anyhow no big deal but it would have been nice to know this in advance. Overall a spacious, comfy and convenient location to stay.
