This is a charming hotel, fair priced and very comfortable. The food in their restaurant is delicious and the breakfasts are scrumptious. We came to see the famous Guggenheim museum and the location of this hotel is very convenient. The staff is outstanding. We have been in Spain for over a week in Barcelona and in Madrid. This hotel is the best so far. Worth its 5 stars.

Hotel's Favorite
The Melia Bilbao was a comfortable and convenient hotel. I stayed there with an Odysseys tour. The sleeping room was large with a comfortable bed, a huge bathroom with a separate bath and shower (plus bidet) and lots of storage. Nice big window, with a section you could open. Good furniture and a huge closet with a safe. Glass elevators were cool. Breakfast buffet was very busy with businesspeople as well as tourists and there were lots of good options. Had one group (private) dinner in the hotel that had good food, but somewhat lackluster service. Located across the street from a large mall (with ATMs) and a few steps to a tram line that took you to the old town in 5 (short) stops for 1.5 euros. Very convenient. Guggenheim Museum is 1 tram stop, or a 10 min walk from hotel. There is a large park behind the hotel with a small lake and lots of locals were enjoying the nice weather there. Very safe area. Really a nice stay there. Also of note, I left my backup glasses there and they ended up sending them to my US home address, so I appreciated their help with that!

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is ideally situated fairly centrally to the city and close to the Guggenheim. Our room was comfortable and clean with nice little touches such as slippers and robes. I purchased a non-refundable rate off booking.com that I thought was good value (€187 per night) and was surprised that we still had a fairly good view of the city. The staff were always polite and helpful, and helped us out of a tight situation involving finding a parking space for our rental car. The breakfast was superb with many food options - I could have eaten it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

The hotel's location next to the river, close to the Guggenheim Museum and just a short walk from restaurants and pintxo bars deserves a 5* rating, and so does the hotel architecture with its impressive foyer and the glass lifts... The staff was professional and friendly. Special thanks to Osvaldo from Venezuela who served us a good Whiskey Sour with egg white... While a varied and quickly refilled breakfast buffet was offered we missed a made to order station. Our premium terrace room on the 10th floor was spacious with a comfortable bed and a nice panoramic view beyond lovely Casilda Iturrizar Park. We liked the solid wood furniture, and though we did not at all mind its "patina" a nice picture on the wall might give an improvement to the room. We were quite satisfied with the huge marble bathroom, in particular when (after two days with stiff towels) we had finally reached the fluffy towel rank. Yet, regrettably the shower concept is still based on old US chain hotel standards, i.e. overhead rain shower and hand shower are missing. All in all we were satisfied with our stay and would come back again. But compared to our recent experience in Meliá Hanoi some refurbishment may be necessary for Meliá Bilbao to fully classify as a 5 star hotel.

Visited the wonderful city of Bilbao between Christmas and New Year 2022 and chose the Melia based on previous Melia experiences in other cities. Hotel is large and modern and in a good location. Most places of interest are within walking distance or short taxi ride (*just follow the river and keep it on your left?). Takes you to the Guggenheim and toward the old town where there are lots of restaurants. Room was large and clean but probably in need of a little TLC (carpets was showing signs age and thread bare in parts). Wifi worked well and we had breakfast in the hotel one morning only . Buffet style with a good selection. If booked the night before at reception a small reduction in price is offered. We went out the other mornings as lots of choices nearby. Reception was very helpful in choosing dining options and has an excellent system to book taxis. All in all we enjoyed our stay and found all member of staff friendly and helpful.

Nice centrally located property. Room was dated but spacious, (grand suite). Paid around £1150 for 4 nights over New year. Breakfast selection good for fruit/cheese/salami style meats, cereal average cooked was poor offering only bacon small sausage and scrambled egg. Service average: in bar, server showed us to a table, said she would be back and never returned, Eventually ordered at bar, drinks arrived, asked for nuts, she said she would get and never returned again! Amenity tray not replenished in room, phoned down and asked for sone tea sachets was told would take an hour, offered to go down and collect them reception responded: 'Same answer, one hour'. This is unacceptable for a supposedly 5 star hotel offered by a major brand!

Check-in was good. We left our company details with reception so that the invoice could be addressed to our business, together with adding the CIF/VAT number. We were assured this would be ready when we checked out. Comfortable room. Great city views. Disappointing "hot" breakfast, more like tepid. Cool scrambled eggs, cold bacon. Not appetising. Upon checking out we were dealt with by "Adama". Not invoice/factura fiscal was ready. It hadn't been prepared. The only invoice we were given was that for the breakfast payment. We asked for both the accommodation and breakfast charges to be on the same invoice. Adama promised that it eould be emailed later that day. Disappointingly, 8 days later we still have no invoice.

Location was easy to find and garage facilities easy to find and access. Check-In Reception staff were helpful and room with terrace was excellent. Surrounding area is interesting with the Guggenheim Museum and Opera House close to hand. Lovely walk by the water with nice riverside bars and green areas. We had an evening snack at the hotel. Ivan and the staff in the restaurant were very accommodating. We were introduced to their gin and cucumber cocktail which was very delicious. Ivan outlined the recipe! Breakfast was excellent with a lovely choice of food. Staff kept the selection refreshed. We will definitely be back, next year, prior to getting ferry from Bilbao to Portsmouth.
