The Áurea Washington Irving Hotel garners mixed reactions, with praise for its cleanliness, modern rooms, and convenient location near Alhambra, a highlight for many guests. While the service is generally admired for its professionalism, some travelers suggest there's room to enhance attentiveness and overcome language barriers.
Opinions on value are split; certain guests question the cost due to pricey extras and underwhelming pool quality, yet others feel the comfort and modern amenities justify the expense. However, recommendations for improving the garden's ambiance and certain amenities have been noted.

Detailed Reviews
Upon arriving we were greeted by Almudena...with a smile and a big Hola ,a wonderful front desk reception person After advising us of where to park temporarily we registered and after inquiring about the cost of an upgrade we were offered and accepted a larger room without charge. After parking Ricky was more than helpful with baggage and information. A very pleasant gentleman
Quality entrance and foyer well is appointed. The room was quiet(#122) and again quality throughout. The bed was little too firm for our liking but that is personal. The breakfast buffet is the top of my list ...ever. From the fresh fruits,to the smoked salmon, to the cold cuts , to the exquisite omelets and not to forget the sweets The apple tart was outstanding. The servers were all helpful and attentive All in all top notch facility.

Top hotel at prime location. A real 5 star accomodation near to the Alambra and 100 m walk to shuttle bus to town center and other tourist attractions.
Very good and friendly personel. Excellent breakfast included in 100 Euros room rate, a bargain for a 5 star. Very cosy rooms with modern, luxurious decoration.
Good insulation from street noice.
To small minusses: roof top swimming pool not heated and rather expensi vallet parking.
However, for us the best you can get in Granada.

+1
Great modern hotel 5 min walking form Alhambra and 15 min walking from city center. Also we'll connected with city center and Alabacin with C30 and C32 routes.
Hotel rooms are modern, well-equipped and comfortable.
Buffet breakfast is not huge, however surprisingly you will find everything you need made from high-quality products. Eggs cooked just for you are a great addition to it (my ham and cheese omlete was perfect)
Staff is very nice and helpful.

I will not return to this hotel or recommend as we have been let down by the staff. On the second day of our stay the housekeeping staff took my white nightwear off the radiator with the towels. We spoke to reception who made calls to the laundry company while we were there and they could not locate it. I had to buy nightwear on my holiday to replace it at my own cost and when we got home we sent many emails and made many calls to see if it had been found. I tried for about 6 weeks and gave up. The nightwear was a gift for my wedding so I was particularly upset and disappointed. The hotel offered me no compensation and on no occasion did they proactively contact me to give me any updates despite it being their error. Next time we go to Granada I will not stay here again, the staff and company do not care about their guests enough.

We stayed for one night and we had the best expirience.
The staff was very nice expecially the girl at the reception that recommended a lovely place for dinner and our way to visit the city center and the lovely Alhambra.
The room was very confortalble and had a lovely view over Alhambra.
Breakfast was good and we felt safe with all the Covid mesures in place.
The hotel is not very central. It is more near Alhambra than the city center. But it's 10 minutes walking down there. Coming from the center to the hotel is more dificult because it takes a lot of effort to go up the street. But it is possible to call a taxi anywhere in the center and the hotel will help in this process if necessary.
The hotel does not have a park, to park your car, but it has a partnership with the Alhambra park so you can have a discount when parking there,
If we ever come back to Granada we would for sure come back to this hotel. And next time more days so we can try the pool.

My family and I stayed here two nights in three different rooms and it was excellent. The hotel and its rooms are elegant, clean, and modern. I wish the rooftop pool was larger, but amenities are usually constrained in smaller European cities. The only real disappointment was the gym - four cardio machines and not a single pair of weights/dumbbells. Nonetheless, the trip was to explore Granada and the Alhambra, and this hotel was helpful for both goals.
The staff was friendly and informative. We had a few last minute changes before arriving, and the hotel staff was prompt and communicative (via email) - 5 star service. The hotel's close proximity to the Alhambra was also key, because we were able to have breakfast (quite good yet pricey - albeit, expected given inflation, etc.) at the hotel before our early morning Alhambra tour (food establishments near the Alhambra don't open before 9:30am).
If I return to Granada, this is where I'll stay again.

It took about 2 hours to reach This hotel from Malaga airport by car. Located just across the Palace of Alhambra, at the walking distance to the main entrance of this famous palace. We were greeted very warmly by The front desk staff, it felt extremely welcoming.
Bedroom has comfortable king size bed, with 2 french balconies overlooking red brick walls of Alhambra and the stone street below. The wooden interior and the color scheme in the room are combined to create that warm and relaxing feeling. I personally love the bathroom area, which is decided into 3 sections. 1st section The open area where the sinks are, devided by a glass door entering 2nd section where the bathtub is, then another glass door to the shower and separate wc.
Breakfast is held at the main dining area in shifts. As part of the COVID-19 regulations of social distancing.
From the hotel, one can walk down to the city Centre of Granada through the lush woods, which borders with Alhambra. It is about 15-20 min. I enjoyed this walk so much.
Will certainly stay at the same hotel, if I happen to make another visit to Granada.

Stayed here with some friends for a girls weekend away to Granada to visit the Alhambra. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better, right opposite and within less than a minutes walking distance to the entrance. Upon arrival we waited 15 minutes for someone from reception to come and check us in, it was a quiet evening but staff were clearly busier talking than being attentive to who was coming in and out. It wasn't until I walked all the way into the staff area and made myself heard that then two came running out. Once they attended us they were very polite and knowledgable showing us a map and recommending places to eat. Our room was nice but the heating wasn't working . Breakfast was very good with a wide selection and fresh produce. Again, staff were a little off with the fairies but very pleasant and once you had their attention very helpful

I came to this hotel 2 years ago and have recommended it to several people. Never again! We arrived today 24th Sept and it’s a completely different place. We came to relax for 6 days but find immediately that we can only book the pool on the 3rd floor for 1 hour each day, this wasn’t advertised anywhere and the staff are blaming it on the booking company for not telling me. I asked to order a drink downstairs then was told that I had to go back to the 3rd floor to get one. So I have been told that not only can we only book the pool one hour at a time, I can’t order a drink either In the hotel unless it’s from the bar you have to book in to! So it looks like my relaxing holiday is bust before it’s even started. This is supposed to be a five star hotel, but I’ve never and I’ll repeat never have I ever had service like this. These 6 days cost over £2k for the booking and travel, we made an effort to get here specifically. I can only say that I wish the hotel did the same. I’m completely lost for words!!

Friendly staff, nice breakfast and three minutes walk to Alhambra. We used the hotel/park option where the hotel parks your car for you as part of the hotel rate. It worked out nicely as part of the trade-off being so close the the Alhambra is most hotels don’t have their own parking and driving around to find the hotel can be tough if you don’t have detail directions (and you still must drive SLOW to find it!). Walking from hotel and back to the Granada old town and central areas are a breeze, 15 mins each way - lit up at night, it’s through a park and a beautiful walk
