Nestled close to the sun-kissed beaches and vibrant Banus Marbella, Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus garners high marks for its enviable setting. Guests commend the dedicated staff for their warm and attentive service, though a few note occasional lapses. The atmosphere is generally celebrated; however, patrons do call for refurbishment, pointing out that some rooms appear tired and worn.
The deluxe suites with terraces are a highlight, yet the dated decor in certain quarters detracts from the overall experience. Cleanliness is mostly upheld, but instances of delayed room servicing have been flagged. The amenities, including beach proximity, dining variety, and leisure facilities, are well-received, though some visitors were disappointed by the pricey beverages and limited meal plans.

Very old room , in need of refreshment , room service for a 5 star should be neater by leaving bottles of water in the way , better room passage , breakfast is not wow for a 5 star, deckchairs private beach of the hotel are paid. Access to the car park is paid at 25 euros a day (statistically for most difficult places) risks touching it with potos. At the toilet level, the water is not safe to drink and room service should check the soap and shampoo bottles from time to time because ours was empty. The location is 10 min walk from the port. But its prox remains exaggerated in relation to the service.

There’s nothing glaringly bad about this hotel as such, but lots of little things that add up to an impression that is considerably less than the five-star rating it advertises.
The rooms: one bin, in the bathroom. The only mirrors are in the bathroom and in the wardrobe. On arriving, it feels like you need a degree in electronics to work out the lights. There’s a light that goes on and off automatically outside the bathroom - couples where one of you gets up in the middle of the night, beware. You have to call the front desk to turn this off.
Our double room came with two single beds pushed together. The hot water can suddenly get dangerously hot without warning in the middle of your shower. Our room was never cleaned while we were at breakfast, only ever in the afternoon. Empty food trays can stay outside rooms for up to a whole day.
The lifts work, but it takes a day or so to get used to how many times you have to push the buttons.
There’s a toilet downstairs, but that’s it. I couldn’t find a second cubicle.
The pool is fine, if you don’t mind being next to a bar that seemingly plays the same two songs on a loop.
Like I say: none of these factors are really a huge problem in isolation, but they add up to create an impression of a tired, neglected hotel.
The really big sticking point is breakfast. Ok, there’s loads of fruit and croissants, but the slices of bread take about 3-4 gos in the toaster (per side) to even slightly brown. There’s frequently no butter or black pepper. The coffee is undrinkable. There’s meat galore and no fish. Minimal vegetarian options. I can’t even begin to imagine how a vegan would cope. There’s someone cooking omelettes to order, but cheese is the only filling: no peppers, onions or any of the basic stuff that you’d expect to find in most hotels. Did I mention the coffee? It’s a shocker, even when it’s hot (which it isn’t for very long).
It’s not an offensively bad hotel: just incredibly average, not sufficiently thought through and lacking in many of the things which, to anyone who’s ever stayed in a hotel before, feel like they should be a given.
I wonder how the five-star system operates - how long after being given it can you keep advertising as such? Is a hotel ever assessed to see if there’s been a drop in standards? Because the five stars that this hotel relies on seem to have been awarded in another decade, perhaps even last century. Beneath the surface, it’s strictly middle-of-the-road.

We stayed in this wonderful hotel for a week in a deluxe suite with private terrace and outdoor hot tub. These rooms are worth the extra money as the terrace is the full size of the suite and on the top floor of the hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful and the Mistral cafe on the beach is right in front of the hotel and there is a lovely outdoor bar to relax in through the day. We went half board and the food was very good. We hired bikes at the front of the hotel and cycled along the seafront to Marbella which is only a couple of miles away. Puerto Banus is a 10 minute walk along the seafront and it is very quaint and nice to watch the luxury yachts and cars. Plenty of shops and restaurants. We will be back.

We have just returned after a 4 day stay at the hotel although we have stayed several times previously ,the last one was 5 years ago. Reading some of the reviews I thought the standards might have declined however it was awesome, everything and more . We just went for one of the standard rooms which had a good view of the pool and sea. Breakfast on the terrace outside was amazing and although the mistral beach club was not open there was a restaurant providing food and drink all day at sensible prices on the beach. Ideal for walks into the Port and San Pedro. I don’t usually comment on service standards as you would expect adequate service in a 5 Star hotel but all the staff at reception and in the bar and food areas were amazing, especially the beach bar. It did help that we did not see one cloud or drop of rain during our stay. Definitely returning and not waiting another 5 years.

This is a lovely hotel- the food and service could not be faulted in any way. The restaurants were fabulous and the pool area including the pool bar were also wonderful. Beach was gorgeous and service on the beach was also top notch. Location is ideal - around a 13 minute walk to Puerto Banus which is loads of fun with lovely restaurants. Evening entertainment was fantastic in the hotel.
There are a few downsides as follows- The room we had which was a Junior Suite with pool/sea view is in desperate need of a refurbishment. It has a lounge area and bedroom with an ensuite bathroom /shower in the bath and separate toilet. However it all needs ripping out and modernising. The wallpaper is stained and tatty, the furniture is dated and the bathroom is really not worthy of a 5 star hotel in 2022. The bath was stained and the shower wonky (water was however lovely and hot). The bed was comfortable and the balcony was really big although it hardly got any sun all day and was therefore dark. There is no turn down service at night but the room service were always on hand for blankets or towels when needed. I do think some of the rooms have been done up but if the hotel wants to compete with other 5 star hotels in the area it needs to get a move on with it as I’m not sure we would return until we had a modernised room. Tempting though as location and beach are wonderful. All that aside the hotel was full up and I don’t think there was any rooms available which says something about the hotel.
Overall we had a lovely stay.

We were undecided whether to still stay in this hotel after reading that parts of the hotel was closed but in the end because of the great location and recent positive reviews we decided not to change, this was an error on our part. The hotel is reduced to just the rooms, the pool and a little bar in the lobby. The ground flour where all the restaurants, shops and amenities are all closed down and looks quit squalid and although the staff are doing their best you can tell they’re just limping along trying to get to the end of the season with minimal damage. Breakfast can only be served on the pool terrace and all the plates and hot food is cold and if it rains you have to have room service in your room, we were offered to have it in the lobby bar but because it’s so small we were told we would have to wait until 10.50am this was too late for us so we opted for the room service but there’s not enough space in the room for this as there’s only a very small desk. I hope the hotel is able to resolve its problems but if it can’t they should close. You might as well stay in a 3 star hotel with a pool, the amenities are the same at a fraction of the price.

We have been coming to the Guadalpin banus since it opened and enjoyed a family trip in August. Despite the temporary difficulties with the restaurants the closures did not affect us . Breakfast beside the pool was excellent as always as were the food and room service. There has been very little turnover off staff over almost 20 years and from Victor at reception to the restaurant, bar and cleaning staff , every one of them does their job in a diligent and friendly way. Some rooms may be tired and in need of upgrading but this is ongoing . The beach location and staff make this hotel what it is.

Stayed two nights over Christmas during our adventure across Spain. The property is by the sea and has its own large pool. The staff were friendly and as helpful as they can. And we do appreciate them working over Christmas!
The resort is displaying some of its age and is probably in need of refreshing before too long. The in-room safe for example, needs a card with a magnetic stripe, like a credit card or ATM card. Not something I’ve seen in ages. More power points are also needed by the bed for the many devices we carry around. To be fair, we would have rated it closer to 4.5 out of 5 rather than 4.0.
We had a junior suite that had a little “kitchen” area with stove top and microwave as well as fridge and dishwasher along with cutlery and dishes as well as glasses.
The room has a separate living area with a dining table. Even with the extra bed, there’s still room for the sofa. In addition, it had a large outdoor patio area with dining table and a sitting area. Very nice for a beach holiday, which (unfortunately) we were not on. Our suite had two large TVs with English channels (mostly British channels) starting from Channel 93.
Given the limited dining choices during this time of the year, be sure to book ahead as it may be hard for the staff to sit you. Breakfast was more than adequate with Cava available. No complaints on that front.

Stayed for a week in early May with my wife. There were a great many positives about this hotel including its beachside location. If your thing is spending a lot of your time on the beach on one of the hotel’s beach beds, then this hotel is ideal for you. Don’t get me wrong, we weren’t averse to a couple of hours by the pool for a swim and sunbathe on our less busy days but we also like to get out and explore the local region. Back home we are occasional sea swimmers in the Irish Sea, but unfortunately found beaches near the hotel too seaweed-laden so stuck with the hotel pool. Room accommodation very nice, bathroom spacious and Mrs M appreciated the in situ magnifying mirror. Balcony area also fairly large although ours didn’t get much use as only caught the sun until around 10am. Broad range of television channels to suit every nationality. Great breakfast. Selection of fruits, breads, pre-cooked items, etc. and freshly cooked omelettes. Staff were overall very friendly and helpful, although the Concierge did seem a little brusque when we needed to approach her on a couple of occasions. Wi-Fi was excellent throughout the hotel premises. 3 restaurants in the hotel, one serving lunch, the others evening meal. Our preference was the Trattoria il Mare, although we ate out at nearby local restaurants most evenings. I suppose our main reservation was the distance needed to get to local bus services and the fact that local tour operators couldn’t get their buses to the hotel for collection due to access problems. The hotel is situated 15 minutes walk into Puerto Banus (10 minutes at a brisk pace) along the pleasant beachside boardwalk. To get to local buses going along the coast is another 5 minutes to the dual carriageway. Some minor gripes; Lights operation in the room seems overly complicated. We experienced our own private light show each evening on first few days as we attempted to work out which switches operated which lights 🤔. Also a bit strange there was no bin in main accommodation, only in bathroom. Overall though, a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

The area is very safe. It is always quite busy. I have not heard of any problems. However, my wife would not walk alone at night. Taxis are available and relatively inexpensive
There are more places to choose from in the Marbella area.
