Visiting Lübeck for three days with my family and the Ibis Budget Lübeck City Süd was the preferred option for us three. The location of the hotel is at a non-busy street and easy to access by car. Free parking at the hotel premises so it’s very convenient to walk 10 meters from car to reception. Then rooms are standard Ibis Budget for three people, two adults and one child. Our room was facing the parking so there were no noise from the street outside. The room was on the entrance level and the floor was really chilly even though we had maximum heat on in the room. Bring your slippers to avoid chilly feet. Free internet is available and the speed is approximately 1 Mbit/s. Okay for mailing and other basic stuff. The cleaning of the room was very good during our stay but only one soap dispenser that you need to use between the hand basin and the shower. To summarize our stay at Ibis Budget Lübeck City Süd, everything worked out very well. Nice and helpful staff, good breakfast and in overall a nice stay during our three days. I recommend it as a good budget hotel and look forward of visiting it again.

Spent 2 nights in the Ibis on the way up north, because Lubeck is a great city to explore. Clean rooms, very basic, free parking and close to public transport to go into the city. Parking in the city is a problems so a hotel just outside was the right thing to do. Do not understand why other people did not like the hotel. Considering the price it is sufficient. There should be some overhaul of the airco ( I am never bothered with airco, so I cannot be bothered ) Downstairs at reception there is a computer/internet , but it is very slow and I gave up after 7 minutes as it only allows 15 minutes of use. Bought breakfast and it was ok. What can one expect for EUR 7.50? Just a fill before I hit the road. One piece of advice for the hotel: get a little bin into the bathroom as lazy people might throw stuff into the toilet.

Stay away if You, like me, are disabled or if your car is over five meters long. The rooms are not small but they are not properly utilised. Parking is for small vehicles, for example a Trabi, not for full sized passanger cars.

Review collected in partnership with Accorhotels.com
I've stayed at other Ibis brand hotels that were so much better. The first impression I got was not good, so this review is probably tainted in that direction. We had gotten into Hamburg from a transatlantic flight and had driven to Luebeck for a nice weekend with friends. We had hoped for an early check-in, but those hopes were soundly squashed by the person at the desk. BTW - even if you are there at 1400 hrs to check-in at the earliest possible time, the only way you can do it is through a confusing electronic kiosk in the airlock. The front desk is not staffed until after 1700 hrs. Even after that, you still need to go to the front desk when they are staffed to finalize everything. The rooms are very small, but clean. WiFi may be free, but you get what you pay for. In other words, it didn't work very reliably or quickly. Breakfast in the morning is another 7.50 euro per person. We found a better breakfast option by walking 5 minutes to the Junge die Backerie. Walk south from the hotel on Berliner Strasse about 300 meters till you see a foot path, then head east 2 blocks and it will dump you out right across the street from this nice little place! The location isn't bad, either from a drive in or drive out perspective. The walk to the old town can be done a couple different ways, but the quickest is going north on Possehlstrasse then cutting in on one of the pedestrian bridges. About a 15-20 minute walk. Unfortunately, when we were there, there was a lot of construction and the road is very busy, so not a pleasant walk. A nicer alternative, but takes a few minutes longer, is to head north, but then go east as soon as you get to the first bridge over the Trave River. Follow the foot path to the first bridge going north and viola! Back to the hotel. The reasons I selected this was 1. Seemed lower cost, 2. Past positive experiences with the Ibis brand, and 3. Semi-convenient location. In hind sight, I would have spent a little more money and gotten something a whole lot better. My recommendation is only use this hotel if you can't find a better alternative. Spend the extra money - you won't regret it.

The slogan for the famous German chocolate bar Ritter Sport fits this Ibis budget hotel perfectly: Square, practical, good. It’s a no nonsense hotel for people on the move who just need a bed and bath at the lowest possible cost. It’s cheap, it’s clean, and it’s located only 15 minutes walk from Old Town Lübeck. Here you can eat your mandatory Schnitzel and sip one of many of the brillant local draught beers. What’s not to like? The girl in the reception wasn’t the friendliest person in the world, and our check-in took some unnecessary time. Parking and wifi is free. Breakfast is too expensive to eat here, we think. We’ll find a coffee shop tomorrow instead.
