Dear guests! Be welcomed! Just opened in June 2014 Hostel Blauer Stern is located in a newly refurbished old urban building right beside the marketplace of Lindenau in the west of Leipzig. Since a long time the so called WESTKULTUR in Plagwitz, Schleussig and Lindenau represents the free, alternative art and cultural scene of town. With only eight but quite different guest rooms on two floors and a green, cosy inner courtyard we offer you a comfortable and caring atmosphere with the important space and liberty to experience this wonderful city. Around the marketplace you find everything you need - theatres, galleries, restaurants, pubs and a lot of shopping facilities are nearby. Not to forget the traditional weekly market on Thursdays and Fridays. Also important to know: * only 6 stops by tram from main station - tram station in front of hostel entrance * our 8 rooms: one single room, three double rooms, three special family rooms with 3 or 4 beds and one mixed dorm room with 4 beds * there are five bathrooms, a living and eating room, common kitchen, a playing room for children and a green inner courtyard with barbecue and chill-out corner at your free disposal * children under 7 years we won't charge anything! * Breakfast from 7 a.M. On (mon - sat) at the bakery next door * free tea and coffee * linen and towels included * NO TV - but many books and games to lend, also radio and free WiFi * free parking in the neighbour streets * only 700 metres walking to 'palmengarten', the next bigger park * huge supermarket at the marketplace * check-in: 2 - 9 p.M. (If you want to check in later on we will charge you an amount of 10 €) * check-out: 11 a.M.

This was a lovely place to spend some relaxing time in a great location. The hostel is designed with care and attention to detail, and is styled with many authentic DDR period style furnishings, it's not tacky, it's very tasteful and we really liked it. The hostel features spacious common areas to sit and relax in and a proper kitchen. Our bedroom (red room) was comfortable and cosy and a good size. The bathrooms were just across the hall and were always extremely clean and the showers very nice. The outdoor courtyard is really a nice place to hang out if the weather is warm. The hostel owner Olivia is very welcoming and relaxed and the young man who welcomed us on arrival was also very friendly and helpful. I would love to give the hostel 5 stars but it really was very quiet, as a couple we had each others company and we met up with friends too so we didn't really mind, but we hardly met anyone else in our 4 nights stay - if you are by yourself and want to meet folks you might struggle. The other thing, was that it was difficult to sleep with the noise of the trams/road/market place right outside our room. I don't mind the sounds of the city and I use ear plugs anyway but this was seriously loud even for me! Staying in a front bedroom, you get the atmosphere of the local area, but there was definitely a trade off. But overall a great place to stay, we'd definitely stay there again, and I recommend more people should visit Leipzig and stay at Hostel Blauer Stern!

This rather small hostel is located a bit outside the city center of Leipzig. It is conveniently located close to a tram stop, several shops and in walming distance of a nice park and several bars and restaurants. The hostel geatures a beautiful courtyard abd a big common area. The rooms are clean but a bit oldish. The bathrooms are new though. Value for money is great.

Privatly owned hostel in West Leipzig. The rooms where very clean and quiet. The interior in the style of the 70's was very charming. Fully equiped kitchen, fridge and washingmashine. Nearby there is a big supermarket, cinema, bars etc. I would recommend the hostel to everyone.

Me and my friend were struck by a Wes Anderson vibe as we checked in to Blauer Stern, the place just makes you associate for some reason. It wasn't crowded at all at our time of visiting, and I agree with other reviewers sentiment that this is not a party hostel (although the courtyard is very nice in summer), we only really met another group on our last day there out of three. It is indeed located in an area of town with many great bars and cafés, and it's well connected via the tram. I think it'd be nice if they accepted cards for payment, but this wasn't much of a problem either - the hostess was very flexible and easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place to stay in the west of Leipzig!

This is not a party hostel, or even a hostel where you'll meet lots of foreigners to exchange travel stories or whatnot. It's a very clean, quiet and unassuming hostel, in a quiet area of Leipzig. The location is great for hipsters, as it's close to the Plagwitz area, but about 6 tram stops away from the old town. They only accept cash (no card services, which is very East German I honestly don't understand why Germans don't want to leave the cash economy behind and join the rest of the world into the 21st century), but other than that, it's a great place and I highly recommend it.
