I lived in Kaiserslautern for 5 years and one of my favorite places there was Hohenecken castle. Sometimes after its visit I had a dinner or coffee in Burgaschanke. I loved the old building and nice decorations in the restaurant and always wondered how it would be to stay in the hotel. So when I now came to K-town as a visitor my choice was easy. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. Room was clean but very simple. Too simple for the price I paid. There was iron available in the room but was so dirty that it wasn't possible to use it, soap bottles were grubby, choice for breakfast very limited and there was always something missing although there were just a few guests in the room, staff was not friendly at all. All together what I got was 40 eur hotel level but they ask twice more. I won't come back.

Very charming and quaint traditional German hotel at the foot of a castle. Couldn’t have chosen a better place to represent an old town atmosphere for this stay. Rooms are simple, yet very clean and comfortable. We slept very well in the dark, quiet room. Be aware that if you’re a light sleeper, there is a church bell that rings 24/7 next to the hotel. It didn’t both us, but it will some. We thought it was charming and it didn’t bother us at all. Breakfast is included and comes with traditional German breakfast offerings. Fresh coffee and scrambled eggs are made when you arrive in the breakfast area. The food in the restaurant was very good and they always had a full house. Locals come here, too. We walked up to the castle ruins above the hotel and it was a great bonus! We would definitely stay here again!

My friend and I loved coming and hanging out on the patio at the restaurant. But this one particular evening, we had to wait over an hour and a half for our meal. It wasn’t busy at the time(2 other couples outside and a few people inside). Then Other groups started showing up and they were receiving their meals before we did. We asked the waiter what had happened and he said that the waitress had forgotten to turn in our order. How do you forget to turn in an order, when this is what you do as a business? No one came an asked if we wanted to order another beer or more bread while we waited. I was truly disappointed, since we frequented the restaurant quite often. The waiter apologize and said it would take an additional 5 min for our order, well that 5 min turned into 20 min. Again we asked what happened, giving them the benefit of the doubt, plus we were hungry, so we waited. The meal finally came after an hour and a half. That’s when he told us that they would only charge a 9 euro for our meal. It will not be our first place to choose when wanting to eat out. It’s really sad, because we really liked bringing our friends from out of town there.

Every so often my 2 friends and I decide to really splurge. So we go to the Burgschaenke for a truly memorable meal. For this you pay quite a bit and since the portions are so large, I order the "kinder" (child) schnitzel and I am quite sated after. My friends order the asparagus (spargel) soup which is only available in season (April-June) and since I've tasted it before, it is outstanding. They then dive into huge meals. It's worth the money.
