We needed a hotel not far from the airport but all the hotels by Dusseldorf were full so we got the next best thing, on the suburbs. They had a good breakfast but the heater was broken so they loaned us a space heater. It was fine for one night.

Our room on the front of the hotel was very quiet, despite overlooking a busy road junction. Extremely spacious and spotlessly clean and most importantly the beds very comfortable. A good breakfast spread was laid on each morning which set us up for the day. The staff we met were all very friendly and helpful and quickly dealt with the... More

Hotel: You can drive past the hotel without even noticing it's there. It looks good from the outside and well maintained from the inside. You enter the hotel from the parking lot, it has a small lobby with friendly staff. Price: The price is low for what you get. Room: The room is big, even huge. It has everything you... More

The location is perfect, just at the underground tram station at near the city center. The rooms are spacious and breakfasts were rich. Free unlimited ticket for public transport including regional trains is very useful. Sauna is declared to be free as well but it was out of order. Wifi was fast and reliable.

Bear it in mind that City Hotel Essen is a *** hotel. Taking this and the room rate, my two-night stay was quite OK. Friendly staff, spacious room, decent breakfast with not a vide range of selection, but good qualiy. Room was quiet, windows sealed tightly and kept the noise of the traffic outside. Bed was comfortable, bathroom small, though... More

I stayed at theCity Hotel Essen for one night in April 2015. Welcome was friendly, room is very large, WIFI worked well, there are four small bottles in the Mini-Bar (2 Water, 1 Coke, 1 Fanta) and they are included in the room rate. Breakfast was o.K. Refrigerator is noisy and I had to pull the plug off to sleep.... More

I stayed in the City Hotel Essen for 5 nights in September 2014, as I was looking for a hotel close to the university, where my congress was being held. The location of the hotel is superb! A short walk or 2 metro stations away from the main station, it is really easy to reach. Just across the road is... More

Ok, I admit. The hotel doesn't look nice on the outside, and once inside the reception is the size of a small living room. Never mind the reception; checking in doesn't take more than a minute. German efficiency is here perfected. Then there is the room. An unbelievable large space, clean, and quite comfortable. The only minor issue I had... More

Very spacious, clean room. Pleasant reception staff. Convenient location in Essen center - walking distance to Kettwiger street for example, but you get a free pass to public transportation anyway. Be sure to take a city map at the lobby. Across the busy street there is a large cathedral, and a few pubs. Room windows are double glazed and seal... More

Found this hotel purely by chance and was very lucky. It has a great location near to town centre. Really helful staff, a very spacious room with great double bed, table and chairs and also a desk with a proper desk chair. Very large flat screen TV Even though our room was on the side nearest the very large junction... More
