Detailed Reviews
Please be careful. This hotel is fine and, for an additional charge, does have very convenient parking right underneath the hotel. You must be careful when booking though. The room we booked was listed as a “3 bedroom”. Wow, I thought we were booking a nice suite…. Unfortunately what they meant was “one king bed and a pullout sofa all in one small room”, not actually 3 bedrooms. Also, even though our room was ready when we arrived at noon, they said we couldn’t check in until 3 pm unless we paid an additional 25€. This hotel was okay and pretty close to the cathedral but I’d probably find someplace different to stay if I ever return to Cologne (Koln).

Dear jbienst, Thank you for your review of your experience with us. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the convenience of our parking and proximity to the cathedral. It seems there was some miscommunication with the room type and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We strive to provide a pleasant stay for our guests and we are sorry that this was not the case for you. If you decide to visit Cologne again, please be sure to contact us so that we can make your stay as pleasant as possible. Thank you for taking the time to write a review! Very good location, only a short walk from the central station and cathedral. Friendly and helpful staff and the room was clean, stylish and well stocked with cosmetics etc. Only downside was a lack of a welcome/information pack and lack of price list for the minibar, was hard to tell what was gratis and what could incur a cost.
Overall though very happy! Would definitely stay again, worth paying a little more than the cheaper alternatives I'd say.

Very nice hotel. We had a superior room in the building next door. The room was great, even though it had a view of the church. It was very quiet at night. It's a good place for conferences. The parking garage in the building is not exactly cheap at 28 euros per day. Please arrive without a car, or park it somewhere else.

Run away from it.
they do not honour prices, never seen an attitude like theirs.
On Monday (Dec. 14 2020) I started browsing for a hotel in Cologne, Germany, and found a room at this Classic Hotel Harmonie with an attractive rate, before booking I contacted the hotel by phone to ask about policy regarding refundable rates, because due Covid, the city might have a lockdown and I would loose my payment. I told the employee I wanted to make a refundable reservation, either by phone or online, she gently replied to me that I should send an e-mail to the hotel informing the dates, name of guests and etc, and that another hotel staff member would contact me in order to inform about refundable rates. I did that, and she acknowledge receiving my e-mail, I replied to her asking if wouldn’t be better if I booked the hotel room right at that moment at the price advertised while waiting for them to check the refundable rates policy. She replied that there wouldn’t a need for that and that I should wait for the hotel staff return to me. Today (December 16 2020) I received an e-mail informing that due to a fair that will happen in September the new prices were 402,90€/day instead of the 77,70€ that were available on Monday. I immediately called the hotel, the first person I talked to wasn’t available and the new staff member told me that they didn’t know about the fair, and since I haven’t booked when I saw the good price they couldn’t do it right now, and she even told me that should I have booked on Monday, even so they would increase my price. this to me is greed and dishonesty.
So I suggest all travellers try booking some other hotel, because this one might give you headaches.

Dear pauloleites, thank you for your review. Of course we are able to explain this situation and also how prices are handled in the hotel industry. Since we work with daily rates (this means that the price changes according to supply and demand, special dates such as trade fairs and so on) the price changes several times a day. Due to the current pandemic, trade fairs are sometimes being postponed absolutely spontaneous, so that we know as much as you do whether prices will change. It is the same handling as with flight bookings. I hope through this explanation you understand our perspective a little more. Team vom Classic Hotel Harmonie

My boyfriend and I stayed here just before Christmas and it instantly started on a bad note with them putting us in a standard room when we had paid for a deluxe double room. My boyfriend went to reception to get us moved where they actually argued with him saying that on the website they are just pictures and not every room looks like that! After 10 minutes of having to argue with them they eventually (reluctantly and with a sigh!!) handed over the key to the room we actually paid for! When we got to the room it was beautiful but the stench from the sewers made me feel sick the whole time! We had to put towels over the drain in the shower when we went to sleep to try to minimise the smell and given it was December we didn't really want to be opening the windows. The staff never once spoke to us any time we went in and out of the hotel! I've never experienced 'hospitality' like it. The hotel itself is lovely and it a great location, just a shame about the staff. There was building work going on when we went but it didn't really affect us and we had better conversations with the builders than we did the staff! All in all, I wouldn't return to this hotel and I wouldn't recommend.

Absolutely boiling hot room, we were told we couldn’t have the aircon switched on despite it being a heatwave unless we paid to upgrade to a delux room. Couldn’t sleep for a minute through the night.
Have booked a different hotel to stay in tonight, my experience for one night here was so bad.

Sweet and clean place, friendly English-speaking staff and 5-10 min walk to the Dom. The breakfast was simple but excellent. If the parking lot is full there is another one 5 min away (24€ for 24 hours). Remember to make a covid test before checking it. I recommend this hotel :)

Disappointing stay at Classic Hotel Harmonie – Absolutely not recommended!
I found my stay at the Classic Hotel Harmonie in Cologne extremely disappointing and can definitely not recommend this hotel.
The rooms are in a catastrophic condition: extremely dirty, heavily worn and dingy. The term "Classic" seems to mean "old and worn out" here.
The room I was assigned was covered with stains all over. The bed was stained, the carpet dirty, and exposed cables hung from the wall. The window frames were also full of stains, and the tiles in the bathroom were smashed. The general condition of the room was simply disgusting.
In addition to these serious shortcomings, there was the extreme unfriendliness of the staff who took no account of my complaints. I provided photos as evidence documenting the condition of the room, and yet there was no insight or apology. On the contrary, the staff were cheeky and told me not to complain. Such audacity is simply inconceivable for a hotel of this class. Unfortunately, I cannot rule out that possible discrimination on the basis of my appearance also played a role in the poor treatment, which made the experience even worse.
The highlight of my negative experience, however, was an additional fee of 100 euros for a so-called "special cleaning" after I smoked a cigarette with the window open by holding the cigarette outside. I also checked out early, and a ventilation of one hour would have eliminated any minimal smell without any problems. With a little room spray, which would have been good for the room anyway before I arrived, the matter would have been completely settled. A bill of 100 euros for a "special cleaning" is an absolute naughtiness given the miserable condition of the room.
Particularly striking was the aggressive way in which this fee was insisted upon and I was treated as a guest. Both the way I have been spoken to and written to suggests that this is common practice and is already routinely handled here.
Even now, this charge is being insisted on, and there has been no excuse to this day. For a hotel of this class, this is an absolute unding. Even out of goodwill one should have been accommodating in this situation.
Overall, the stay at Classic Hotel Harmonie was a great disappointment. I strongly advise against choosing this hotel for a stay in Cologne.

I booked a room for 5 nights with free cancellation on booking.com (free cancellation was quite clear on the top of the booking confirmation) and later on, modified my booking (moved it by 1 day) assuming that it should still be with the free cancellation option (since it wasn’t visible on the top of the booking modification confirmation) and then, I had to cancel everything because of business reasons.
I’ve been notified by the hotel that’s it’s not with free cancellation anymore (when I double checked, the no cancellation policy was written this time at the very bottom of the booking modification confirmation, in order to purposely mislead a guest). I explained my situation to the Hotel and they didn’t want to know anything about it and took the payment from my credit card anyway knowing that it was almost 4 weeks before the check-in date and that It won’t impact them financially.
Hospitality is about customer service first and at this Hotel, they totally did the opposite by being selfish and passive towards my situation.
They took almost 1000 Canadian dollars from me as free money for them.
I’ve been myself a Hotel General Manager for years and never seen that. Shame on this Hotel’s Management! You don’t represent Hospitality!

The hotel exceeded our expectations. Without a doubt, we slept in one of the most comfortable beds ever. The young lady at the reception desk who checked us in and out was incredibly helpful and had excellent spoken English. The location was fantastic, just a few minutes' walk from the Central Station. I was so impressed that the hotel uses Rituals cosmetics for their toiletries. Breakfast was delicious, the only note would be that the juice was too sweet- it was not natural.
