A lovely hotel with a decent breakfast, staff are excellent on the desk and act as part-time bartenders. Very friendly and genial, kept busy when people are checking in. Great location, a few mins from train station (of which there are 2 in the town). Room very comfortable, no complaints. Enjoyable work stay.
This hotel is centrally located, just a few minutes from the train station. I enjoyed my large room on the first floor, with a very pleasant bed, good pillows. Breakfast was also well catered for. Only odd thing were the swiss crosses on the floor and the cow-hide chair. Odd, but also quite entertaining. Well recommended as it was for a good price as well.
Stayed on a Sunday night on our way further East. Clean, on the outskirts of town but on a tram route into town - the hotel gives each guest a tram ticket to use...which is a great little gimmick. Rooms are a little spartan but functional. No A/C and we were on the street side of the hotel...and it was best part of 30c! A case of either leave the windows open and get disturbed by traffic and trams on the cobbles...or bake. Breakfast was adequate. If you do a street view of the hotel you will see a restaurant - this is actually a separate business selling soups, salads and baguettes (does serve alcohol) but not much else. We dropped bags, went into town using the tram ticket for a cold beer and in search of a bite to eat.....to be honest we didn’t see much that appealed and didn’t much like the look of the people hanging around....so caught the tram straight back. A small restaurant across the road from the hotel was just closing (it was around 6:15 pm), a couple further up the road were not open and the one downstairs didn’t really offer anything substantial. We asked the hotel receptionist (Bettina) for a recommendation- she suggested a Beer House, only 400m away but tucked on a road which we would never of dreamed of searching on. She made a call and booked us a table - really nice service for such a hotel. Meal was great - portions were huge...I mean huge....beer was also good. Think from memory our main course was €13.50 Later on Bettina on hearing our journey plan also recommended a small diversion to see the half timbered houses in the small town of Melsungen - another great call. Hotel has a car park. …
We stayed at the Schweizer Hof during our visit to Documenta. Despite the hotel is located some kilometers away from the center, I would tell that it's a good location: direct connection with tram to König Platz and good restaurants around. Large rooms - appartements. Good breakfast and pleasant service - except a very poor English speaking.
Stayed here for two nights in November - a weekend stay for a sporting event. Hotel is situated a comfortable 5 minutes walk from the ICE Railway Station. Booked a Classic single room, but received a complementary upgrade to an Apartment overlooking the garden at the rear of the hotel. This was a very spacious, well appointed room, very quiet. The only issue was the wi-fi connection at the rear of the hotel - very poor. The buffet breakfast offered an extensive selection and was of good quality - sets you up for the day. Intended to use the Vital Spa, but ran out of time. The hotel's staff were friendly and very helpful - they spoke good English, which was a bonus, because my German was limited. All in all a very pleasant stay - would recommend & would stay here again. Thank you, Hotel Schweizer Hof Team.…
