This is a really good hotel for families, couples, singles, businesspeople, indeed everyone. The initial check in meeting set the scene, with a relaxed but very professional welcome and introduction to the hotel and its services. Breakfast is self-service, with the full range of English breakfast/German favourites/pancakes/toast/fruit/yoghurt/etc., etc. Typical of the high standard of service is that when my wife and I sat in the bar area near the lifts on a Sunday afternoon, a staff member came across to apologise for the use of the passenger lifts for moving the huge heaps of laundry, as the service lift had broken down and the engineer had the day off. The staff member, like all the staff, switched from German to English once he realised our nationality. Excellent! Rooms are large, beds are comfortable (with a choice of pillow types) and bathrooms/wardrobes well equipped. Good soundproofing removes the traffic noise (apart from occasional sirens on emergency vehicles) There is a Lidl store opposite (like 90% of the retailers, it closes on Sundays) and the local police station is across the road. The Arcotel Rubin is a shining light in a sometimes less than salubrious area of Hamburg. A lady on her own may not feel comfortable in the streets around Steindamm, where the mix of characters, beliefs, and lifestyles sometimes creates an atmosphere which may be seen as threatening. That said, my wife and I (both seniors) were not concerned as we walked along Steindamm each evening to and from the Arcotel, and we were not approached by beggars or others, For those who want a really good hotel but without the potential issues, there is a local rail station just 100 yards from the hotel, with connections to all of the sights. The main rail station is an easy walk of around 8 to 10 minutes. Recommended!…
Good central location and nice staff but very hard beds, dirty sheets and very few towels that also wasn’t changed just pull’s down. Bar didn’t open until 6pm with only a non English speaking trainee also didn’t impress us……………………………………….
The main reason for choosing ARCOTEL RUBIN, among the many hotels in Hamburg, were the opportunity to park at the hotel, and a renowned Gin Bar, I’ll get back to the bar. When we arrived at the hotel their parking garage had a clear green “Frei” sign outside, meaning please drive in, however the garage door wouldn’t open, and the machine wouldn’t give me a ticket. We went to the reception to inquire, and where told, that the garage was full, and we could park about 500 meters away at the street. Well, we were very dissatisfied with that answer, which we informed the reception in both German and English. Well, the receptionist couldn’t do anything, other than give us a call, if there should turn up a free space in their garage. We parked our car those 500 meters away and dragged our luggage back to the hotel. When we arrived at the room, we got a call, that there now was a free space in the garage. I ran back to the car, and entered the garage, it still wouldn’t open, but when I rang the reception, they remotely opened it for me. Much to my surprise I didn’t only find one free space, I found 11 unoccupied parking spots in the garage, and furthermore all of the four handicap spaces were unoccupied as well! The only explanation I can think of, that they keep these spaces free for annoying customers like me. So heads up if you choose this hotel, and there’s no parking available, give them some noise at the reception, and mysteriously there will turn empty spaces up. It must be really awful for a handicapped person to find the parking garage full, even if all Handicap spaces is unused, it is so unprofessional and rude. Well, luckily, I’ve heard of their fantastic gin bar, with more than 50 brands of gin, so I could at least get a decent Gin&Tonic to calm me down. Ha, they have about 10 gins on the menu, the first 3 we requested, were unfortunately sold out! The poor bartender had to look up every recipe for the few cocktails they carry, and the bar were totally closed on Monday. The Breakfast is decent but overpriced 22 Euro/night/Person. Don’t I have anything good to say about the hotel, oh yes, the shower has plenty of hot water 😊…
So for my last two nights in Hamburg I’m staying at this four star hotel which is quite nice! Better beds and the small things that makes the difference compared to three star hotel. Good gym and nice facilities! Nice for family stays and I can warmly recommend this.😉
I needed a one-night sleepover in Hamburg close to the central location, this is why I found and chose the Arcotel Rubin. Staff courtesy and well-cleaned room is a highlight. My double-room offered a big bathroom including bathtube, Though not requested, I was lucky to get a quiet room pointing to the inner courtyard. Walk from central location just requires approx. 15 mins. The road Steindamm provides Cafe Türkis next to the hotel as breakfast alternative (only on weekdays open in the morning) and a collection of Turkish food markets and restaurants.
Me and my friend booked this hotel as it looked similar to hotel we use in England. Firstly we put our English money into the safe with our passports. The money was taken the next day. We reported this to reception they took our statements and came back with no one has taken the money. You only have access to the safe. Well funny how you need to re set the safe when guests leave. We reported this to the police they again did nothing. Be careful staying at this hotel due to the area it's in as well. I'm a small woman and my friend wasn't much bigger and the area felt extremely scary. Like a scene from taken esp at night time, well actually anytime of the day. The staff were not helpful at all, even when it came to paying at the end due to our complaint. Would not stay here again!
Excellent hotel. Very clean. Great breakfast. Helpful staff. Area ok. Trains/underground are very close. Highly recommend especially if you want to be near the city. Some lovely restaurants within walking distance.
Located in the Turkish part of Hamburg close to Hauptbahnhof. First got a room opposite the elevators but no problem to change for another room further away. A very spacious and light room with no less than three large windows. Be aware that the underground garage is not made for cars longer than 4 m! Tight ramps and small spaces but conveniently located in the same building.
Really pleased we booked this hotel. Very friendly staff and extremely clean hotel. Well stocked bar when we returned after the day out. Hotel located in a great spot, short walk from the train station and only €10 in a taxi to centre.
I am at hotel now. Arrived Sunday afternoon - attracted by the advertising of Wellness & Fitness suite on 7th floor - overlooking city. CLOSED. Very CLOSED, I mean all the signs covered over. Obviously gone but still being advertised as an amenity. My only reason for choosing this hotel over others near to the Hauptbahnhoff. Even more annoying that it is still being described and offered on hotels website. Very disappointed. Not up to standard of prices charged. Spend your money elsewhere!
