I was a twelve year old boy when I was enchanted by this iconic hotel. Fifty-three years and a lifetime of travel later, on the occasion of my second visit, the enchantment has been refreshed. Not to be outdone, the lady of my life is even more enamoured than I with this fabulous building and the people that make it work. The enchantment is so strong that we are planning another visit this year, for no other reason than to stay at the Vier Jahreszeiten.
What a historic and yet classy hotel. My room was on the 5th floor with a small terrace and it was very nice. The hotel was very nice to provide some fresh fruit, a bottle of wine, and some macrons, though that may in part have been due to my travel agent's booking extras. The Grill restaurant was good for a business dinner. What was most surprising was the case of Sprungli chocolates. I did not realize Sprungli sold outside of Switzerland. A server named Angelo was very kind, helping me get some chocolates even at the end of the night as the restaurant was closing down. Really really appreciated his patience as I perused the different chocolates that they had. Thank you, Angelo for capping off a great night. Looking forward to the next visit!
Friendly staff in all areas, central location in the city, nice breakfast with broad selection, excellent wine list in restaurant with quiet and excellent service, the room was large and comfortable, super bed
We started our trip to Germany in Hamburg with a three night stay at the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. The central location was ideal for sight seeing without needing a taxi to get to were you warned to go. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. When my wife and I went to breakfast each morning we received no less than three “guten Morgens” from staff members as we made our way to the restaurant. The food was always delicious and served with an abundance of smiles and courtesy. In the afternoon they serve “high tea” at the restaurant just off the lobby. On our second day we came back to the hotel about the time they were serving an already full room. We didn’t have a reservation, but just happened to be greeted by the restaurant manager, Leonard Schaaf. He then gave us his full attention and arranged a couple of tables to accommodate my wife, her sister and myself. Mr. Schaaf even took our initial order for drinks and water and followed up two or three times to be sure our experience was positive. Our stay at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten was first class and a great way to begin our vacation in Germany!…
I saw this hotel as I was out exploring Hamburg on a business trip with my wife. I went into the foyer and thought ‘right I’m moving out of our other hotel and into here. I wasn’t wrong. It’s everything a 5 star hotel should be. Elegant, stylish, and comfortable. Our room was cosy and a beautiful bed. Service was perfect. All the staff are immaculately dressed. Breakfast was buffet style but well organised. Made to order eggs etc. Tea and coffees served. I never like those machines. And my bug bare ‘toaster’ was excellent. Tv as usual not good. I can’t understand why European hotels don’t cater for English speaking clients. All we need are a couple of movie channels in English. Not much to ask for. I had a club sandwich and a couple of. Whiskeys one night and it was €90. A bit excessive I think. But the room and breakfast was very reasonable for such a stunning hotel. All in all two wonderful days and nights.…
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Fairmont in Hamburg. It is in a great location with incredible staff and ammenities. We particularly enjoyed use of the spa/massage, iconic bar and dinner in The Grill. Going forward it will be our hotel of choice when returning to Hamburg. Special mention to Luis from the concierge team who arranged our ski equipment to be sent from the hotel to Cortina. many thanks. A very special stay. Thank you
For some reason there is only a smoking bar. And if you’re non smoking there is a cafe with minimal capacity, if there’s no room and you want a drink etc. then too bad. That was the receptions reply. That unfortunately makes the stay in a 5 star hotel below average. That level of service is not good enough.
At the risk of being misunderstood, I want to stress that I am reviewing the Vier Jahreszeiten here and not just any hotel. They are not shy about bragging about and displaying their accolades, so in that context, I set my expectations. This is , by any means ,not a bad hotel , old world ,so if one is looking for excitement and a contemporary feel, then there are other choices. Every single encounter with the employees were courteous and professional but overall, the hotel lacks attention to detail. I am picky , but at the prices they are charging , they need to do much better. An antique looking desk clock shows the wrong time, we requested tooth brushes ,as are very very common in luxury hotels in other parts of the world,I wish I had not! They were of the absolute lowest quality possible. Clearly , it is obvious that the old world charm and the approach of a run-of -the-mill cookie cutter corporate hotel company are on collision course. I m not sure the association with Fairmont, not known for, but aspiring to play in the super luxury market ,is helpful. Even the employees seem unsure about it. In the less than 24 hours in the hotel I racked up a bill of about 2500 Euros between room and dining. The experience at Nikkei 9 was nice , to a large part owing to a very competent and engaging waitress. We enjoyed our dinner there very much. The breakfast, on the other hand was way below expectations. Any airline business class serves better omelettes! Awful. The set up of the breakfast is clearly geared at cost savings, being seated in the Grill one has to venture to a neighbouring dining section, out of sight of the main restaurant where a buffet is set up together with an egg section. For a hotel of this calibre, I expect to have a basic set up of jams ,honey and butter on my table. I would recommend they take a look at the hotel Tortue just up the road, where an outstanding and delicious breakfast is served. Overall, the public spaces look messy, from grinning Reindeers at the entrance to bizarre looking polar bears shaking their heads and bodies, alongside miniature Vespas and some other creature of the forest dressed up and slouched on a chair, I didn’t get it. Completely out of place in a hotel of such grandeur. And then there is the journey to the breakfast room, from the main lobby through the bar/lounge, past commercial looking displays of Chocolates and odd looking cubes featuring champagne or fashion labels , past empty crates of mineral water and beer barrels. It looked like this place should not have been accessed by customers but yet, no one seemed to mind. The check out was, well corporate, courteous but not once was I asked if I enjoyed my stay, not once was my name used , it was a very impersonal, rehearsed experience. The lady was nice, but so are the ladies at a Hilton! Yes, one might say no major hiccups , but did I leave the hotel being suitably impressed, no. I felt I stayed at a Fairmont, a Marriott or a Hilton, sadly, not much better than that. …
Fantastic facilities and service. We stayed for business and a bit of leisure - great offerings in all restaurants, unfortunately you need to book quite a bit in advance to secure a table because of the high demand. We where able to visit both bars and the Nikkei Nine and Grill Restaurants - both fantastic and worth every £££. The suite was spacious and had a great sense of place parred with that special grand hotel feel….
Without a doubt one of the best hotels that we have visited! The service, atmosphere, comfort and food was truly amazing. Our room was beautiful with super confortable beds, impeccably clean. very impressive decor and breathtaking views. Top, caring attentative staff at a top location. I cannot thank the Front Office Manager, Robert Esposito enough! He went above and beyond to make our stay so special and memorable with absolutely impeccable service throughout our stay. We will definitely return and are already looking forward to our stay this time next year!
