Adjacent to the Nikolaikirche in the old neighbourhood of Nikolaiviertel, the Hotel Nikolai Residence is quiet almost secluded, but it is located just behind the Rotes Rathaus on the river side and is only a 10 min walk from Alexanderplatz –so ideally located to explore Berlin. There is a tiny reception (open 0700 to 2100 daily) on the first floor...

In the very center, Nikolaiviertel is the oldest part of Berlin, hotel is just 50 m from Nikolaikirche. Nice, big, clean rooms, helpful staff. Quiet, with a view on Rotes Rathaus and Alexanderplatz Tower.

It's unfortunate because I always love places off the beaten path. Unfortunately the owner of this establishment is definitely not above board. I booked a superior triple bed room but got standard. When settling the bill, the owner offered a discount which was actually higher that the standard room which I stayed. He was insisting that that I pay in...

We stayed in February in one of the large family rooms. Disappointingly there was a mix-up with our booking on the first night, but this was quickly resolved by a very apologetic and understanding owner to our satisfaction. The room itself was cavernous, allowing a separate bedroom and some privacy (and some isolation from my snoring...). Ostensibly the room was...

This quiet spot was close to the Alexanderplatz making it very easy to get around the city. The hotel was clean, comfortable, loved the towel warmers (especially since we visited in February), and staff was very helpful. Make sure you get late check-in instructions if you arrive after 9pm. Also, it's tucked away, so be sure you get directions. We...

Myself and my son spent a few night in Berlin recently. We chose this hotel from a recommendation... and it did not disappoint. It is an efficient set up, with a check-in area and 2 floors of rooms. We were taken care of very well, and the room was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished! The location is second to none!...

The place where you find everything you need and even more: perfect wi-fi and free touch pad; bathrobe, sleepers, all necessary bath bath accessories; kettle, full minibar etc. Very friendly staff. Many good restaurants nearby (with different kind of kitchen). And the location is perfect (quiet, city center, big transport hub at Alexanderplats 10 min walking).

Nikolai Residence is located in a lovely area of Berlin Mitte that has an old German charm which feels relaxed and quiet, even though you are within walking distance to the TV tower and busy central Berlin! The hotel itself is located in almost a series of small courtyards with cobbled roads and is therefore really quiet in the rooms....

Arrived at 10am to an amazing welcome - including chocolates (much to the children's delight!). The room wasn't ready so we walked across to Alexanderplatz and the Christmas markets - just magical. We have visited Berlin before but never spotted a hotel so well located- it really is perfect! There a number of cafes around for breakfast; we particularly enjoyed...

Nikolai Residence provided a great respite from a hectic Berlin! The Nikolaiviertel is charming to walk around and has plenty of places to eat. The staff was easy to work with. We typically prefer a place with breakfast for ease, but we did not miss it here. Plenty of great places for breakfast very near by. Definitely convenient to so...

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
