Stayed for three nights in this excellent little pension. Very helpful owner. Able to park our hire car in street with inexpensive daily pass from hotel. Bus and underground a short walk away. Lots of nice restaurants very near and excellent breakfast buffet provided. Thoroughly recommended including for families.

I returned for my second stay at Hotel-Pension Bregenz. (The last time was in 2012.) I was just as pleased this time as last. All six nights were comfortable, with a nice-sized room and bathroom (Room #6 this time). Although I was right across from the door to the breakfast room, I was not disturbed by noise. A floor fan had been provided which probably helped to cover up any noise. The family who run the hotel are very nice and helpful. The self-serve breakfasts were good and plentiful. From the sidewalk, there are about 10 steps (with hand rails) to climb up to the landing. At night, a light automatically comes on at your approach. After entering, there are no more steps. A small elevator takes you up to the pension, which is easily found by the signs. The wardrobe is large for storing your things, and luggage can be placed on top of it. The large window opened wide and looked out onto the quiet courtyard. The proprietor gave me a map upon my arrival and refreshed my memory as to helpful bus numbers and connections. He was happy to schedule a cab for me the day before I left for the airport. Although the pension is located away from the middle of the action in the "Mitte" where many of the sights are located, I enjoy staying here because it is in a quiet neighborhood yet within a few blocks of bus #109, which can to taken to the "Zoologischer Garten" stop, which is a central point for buses traveling in all directions in Berlin. At that stop is also a train station, from which regional trains, as well as S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains can be caught. If you are going to visit Potsdam, you can catch the trains to there as well. The only drawback is the extra time it takes getting to many of the sights -- about 10-15 minutes to "Zoologischer Garten" stop and then to switch buses there to go on further. .

Berlin is one of the great European cities, and I cannot consider accommodation in anything which doesn't adequately represent the culture and learning of a city. In Berlin this can be experienced in one of the grand hotels, whose budget alas is way beyond reach, or in a city pension, but one that is family-run and comfortable. Bregenzer Strasse is in the city area of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, The 'dorf' part of Wilmersdorf became history when it was connected by tram to the old centre of Berlin (a few kilometres eastward) around 1870, but this area was settled in the 12th century. The 'burg' part of Charlottenburg on the other hand is very much extant and well worth a visit. The pension has if I recall rightly 15 rooms and those looking into the 'hinterhof' (the inner courtyard of an urban residential structure) may be marginally quieter than the others. The couple running this charming and excellently maintained example of old Berlin hospitality are attentive, understanding of the needs of guests and look after the details with care. A pension is not a hotel, and a hotel can never be a pension. A room at a pension may cost a little more or less than the typical city hotel, but has atmosphere and a connection with gracious living that the modern hotel cannot duplicate. The old-fashioned and perfectly functional period lift (elevator) was delightful, as were the generous breakfasts.

This hotel was the perfect stop for my family's (2 adults 2 kids) two-night stay in Berlin. Four Beds and and en suite bath with a nice window overlooking the courtyard. Not much space for doing anything else other than sleeping but that was just fine as we spent the whole time exploring the city. The room was spotless. Breakfast was simple, traditional German fare and we enjoyed meeting other guests who were from Australia and The Netherlands. Christian was helpful to us and provided info on where to get on the bus tour, etc. We really enjoyed that the hotel was on a quiet tree-lined neighborhood street, yet only a couple blocks from a main intersection. Very walkable. There were also a nice variety of very good restaurants to choose from in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely stay - 3 nights. Clean, safe, quiet, and yummy German breakfast. Typical German pension where the owner clearly takes pride in his property!!! The Innkeeper Christian is very helpful and can assist you with navigating thru the city. He even has bus tickets available for sale - one less thing to worry about as a tourist... The location is perfect - close to Ku'Damm on a residential, quiet street. Secure - one locked door to get into the lobby of the building, and another locked door to get into the pension accessable via an elevator. Excellent wifi too. I will come back on my next trip to Berlin!
