An old gem is polished. The HOTEL ZOO BERLIN, the jewel of Berlin’s Kurfuerstendamm from the 1920s to 1950s, is shining brightly again. Designer Dayna Lee (Powerstrip Studios, N.Y. and L.A.) reinvented the HOTEL ZOO BERLIN without neglecting its historic character. With a great passion for details, she created a unique townhouse, which combines a mix of New York flair and London elegance. Dayna Lee embraced the building’s history in her design. Constructed in 1891 as a private residence for an affluent family it was converted into an upscale hotel in 1911. Home to many celebrities of the time, it became the VIP-Hotel for the Berlin International Film Festival in the 1950s. All of the 141 rooms and suites in the HOTEL ZOO BERLIN are unique. The original floor plan - more than 100 years old - combined with the newly constructed levels in the side wing and rear building add up to an extraordinary architectural mix, also reflected in the many different layouts of every single room category. Some feature open plan bathrooms, others boast free-standing bathtubs. Amenities include custom made walnut closets, plush mother-of-pearl colored headboards and large armchairs resting on dark wooden floors. The panorama rooms allow views of the Kurfuerstendamm or across the rooftops of Berlin, towards Theater des Westens. GRACE Bar revives the glamour of Berlin’s Golden Twenties in the same hotel where film stars like Marlene Dietrich sipped champagne and danced the Charleston a century ago. Tucked behind the living room of Berlin’s famous Hotel Zoo, GRACE Bar achieves a perfect balance between the hip and the historic. The NYC and LA-based designer Dayna Lee combined details like exposed brick walls, green leather armchairs, violet wall panels, an amethyst bar top, and a mirrored backboard to create the feeling of an old Hollywood film set. The bartenders at GRACE Bar also take inspiration from the building’s history as a popular hangout for international film stars in the 1920s and 1950s. The cocktail menu includes both timeless classics, like the Sazerac, and the bartenders’ seasonal inventions with exotic ingredients like galangal honey, pandan syrup, and roasted banana-infused shochu. On weekend evenings, local DJs play into the early morning hours. Guests can always cool off or smoke a cigarette in the winter garden, a courtyard with a five-meter long fireplace and tall windows that make it easy to keep an eye on the action inside at the bar. GRACE, what lies behind this alluring name is the new glamorous restaurant in Berlin’s city west that advanced to an in-spot for casual fine dining shortly after its opening in early 2015. The cosmopolitan charisma of the interior design paired with the exquisite menu result in an exceptional culinary experience. The young and fierce kitchen team soaks up the nonchalant lifestyle of the restaurant and conveys it onto the menu. Heading towards a new, unchartered culinary territory, the chefs create exclusive dishes, not to be found anywhere else. The cuisine paired with the ambiance of the restaurant, leaves you breathless. Every dish can be served as a party-friendly small plate, making the dining experience a social event. The service staff completes this concept, ensuring the guest an unforgettable evening. Creamy Rock Shrimps, Beef Summer Roll, Asia burrata, there is such a wide array of tasty delights on the starter menu, it is best to load up on them all, staying true to the small plate principle of sharing and enjoying. Mains include the Miso Black Cod and the Maine Lobster with yuzu or, for the beef lovers, the Filet Chinois with pak choi and cocoa bean and the Rib Eye Steak with green asparagus and lavender. Vegetarian dishes like the Braised Eggplant and Jaipur Artichoke are worth ordering anytime. The dessert menu is studded with delicious delights including the New York Cheesecake and the Pecan Chocolate Cake. The wine menu provides a wide selection to perfect the evening. If the weather permits, the dinner can be enjoyed on the lush green terrace of the restaurant. One of the city’s most spectacular rooftop terraces, the cherry on top of the HOTEL ZOO BERLIN. This oasis of peace is another stroke of genius from an American interior designer. Dayna Lee, signing the entire premise with her urban townhouse style. The new rooftop terrace and GRACE Garden are stunning spaces, completing the hotel’s portfolio of glamorous venues. The rooftop provides a bar and a lounge area accommodating up to 100 guests. The view from the terrace boasts a stunning 270-degree panorama of the Berlin cityscape with the southwest exposure allowing spectacular sunsets views. An open fireplace and a waterfall dancing under a vegetated rim complete the setting. GRACE Garden creates a parallel fine-dining universe away from the buzz of the city. Guests can relax on custom-made loungers, enjoy a fancy cocktail and indulge in highlights of the GRACE menu while facing the breathtaking night sky over Berlin. On special events, the terrace hosts top-notch DJs enhancing the atmosphere with relaxing clubhouse tunes.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Hotel Zoo Berlin enjoys a stellar reputation for its prime location, right in the bustling heart of Berlin, with guests frequently lauding its proximity to local attractions. The service, led by commendable staff such as Dieter, is generally warm and attentive, although occasional lapses are noted. While some guests feel the hotel doesn't provide sufficient value due to noise issues and room quality, the cleanliness is consistently praised.
The rooms offer a blend of comfort and design, despite some criticisms regarding noise and maintenance. The hotel's amenities, including a rooftop bar and restaurant, are particularly celebrated, adding to the hotel's chic and stylish atmosphere. However, the vibrant nightlife can sometimes disturb guests seeking a quiet night's sleep.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel exuded a tranquil and serene ambiance. The sensory experience was enhanced by the exceptional aromas and visual aesthetics. The convenience of having a renowned restaurant and bar within the hotel’s premises further contributed to the overall experience, eliminating the need for external exploration.
It would be greatly appreciated if each room at the Zoo Hotel were equipped with a bathtub. My most memorable experiences at the hotel were spent relaxing in the bathtub with my partner after a day of shopping. The inclusion of bathtubs in the rooms would be exceptional, as they are slightly larger than the standard rooms.
My sojourn at the Zoo Hotel provides a sense of comfort akin to home, while the vibrant atmosphere exudes an electrifying ambiance.

The stay was successful all around, the staff is very friendly, the beds very comfortable - the large duvet is very soft and pleasant. In addition to shampoo, shower gel and body lotion, the bathroom also has conditioners. The restaurant is highly recommended with its exceptional food, also the breakfast is very good. The prices are a bit too high, but you live directly at Kurfürstendamm with great service.

We spend 2 nights at the Hotel Zoo in the heart of Berlin and already from check in, we were impressed. The Hotel Zoo offers valet parking, a great relief when one is not familiar with Berlin by car. We chose the second smallest room and we were impressed with that to. Window was facing a quiet yard and the room was airy, roomy and beautifully furnished and smelled nice. At breakfast we were impressed again. The restaurant offers a great variety of breakfast and the bread is freshly baked. Once seated you can order eggs, pancakes or whatever you like and you do not have to wait long. The beautiful surroundings and the always kind and highly motivated staff made us feel very welcome. Thank you for that!

This hotel is conveniently located on one of the most beautiful avenues in Berlin. The large glass door opens onto a subdued lobby that immediately sets the tone. The place is warm, very cozy, with a refined decoration with a touch of originality in connection with the zoological garden nearby. The bar is cozy and the restaurant room beautifully decorated and arranged. There's a little mountain hotel spirit. We stayed for the Christmas holidays and the decorations were superb. The staff is very courteous and available. A special mention for Dieter, who accompanies you to your room, and Wallit who officiates at the bar and are incredibly kind. One without fail. Great hotel! I usually stay at 5-stars and known names and this one was thru the hospitality package for Euro2024 and what a pleasant surprise! Gorgeous hotel! Amazing restaurant. Rooms are somewhat small but location compensates for it. They should have rooftop access for customers staying in the hotel. The bouncers at the elevator - no knock on them but their function - are a bit intimidating and I left feeling I missed out on that front. Dieter was wonderful and I appreciated him and the Staff overall. I’d return and this time, make sure I see the rooftop also!

Almost everything that can go wrong went wrong here during a very short stay.
1. They didn't take my chemical sensitivity seriously and even lied (twice) in that regard - which caused me health issues and the need to change rooms to one where a big window could be opened completely. (I had called before booking - and upon arrival again, before paying - to explain my situation and inquire about their practices and they said it won't be a problem. Otherwise I would've just chosen a different hotel.)
2. The cleaning crew threw out my pyjamas with the bedding and front staff refused to investigate in time. After checking all my luggage thoroughly, I called again and then the bedding was already out of the building, so could no longer be checked. They didn't offer a refund, but asked me to fill out an insurance claim and show them a receipt - who carries around a receipt for their pyjamas? So the loss is on me despite calling right away and them not offering to check the laundry until it was too late.
3. The night portier let noise go on and on until the early morning despite having the means to do something about it and getting numerous complaints about it. The overwhelm with his duty led to rudeness which is always a bad combo.
4. Front staff made a mistake with charging my credit card and the communication around that was incredibly messy.
5. Last but not least, they were very unprofessional about my written complaint and despite asking for escalation to Senior Management after the first snappy and incomplete answer, no leader took it upon themselves to investigate and answer...
...which is why I think future guests could encounter similar problems here.

. Interesting that I added my feedback in google maps ans the hotel complained to google to take it off, that tells you the mindset of the management of the hotel. So here is my original and honest feedback:
Read this is you plan to book this hotel in the spring/summer. Very bad experience, but let’s start with the positive: - good looking (nice decoration) - close to the subway Now the very bad: - impossible to sleep, the hotel have a rooftop with super loud music (bass frequencies). First we were in the 6th floor and we couldn’t sleep, so we moved to a superior room in the 4th, even louder because it was facing the rooftop. Other customers complained to the manager, he didn’t care, same volume, they changed us to the 2nd floor and then we could sleep. So deer Mr owner of the Zoo hotel, if you prefere to own a night club, open a night club, not an hotel where people expect to sleep and not ear music late in the night. - the the breakfast, 45€ per person (would be ok if it was good, but this is a « nothing special breakfast » so the quality/price ratio is bad, but that not the issue, the issue is that I added breakfast every morning for 2 Pax, but for work I leave the hotel earlier than my girlfriend, first day, no issue, the second day the lady checkin the breakfast had maybe lost the paper I sign to pay the breakfast so when my girlfriend went to get breakfast she was refused entrance! Of course… no « sorry for the mistake », then I checked the invoice and they did charge for 2 breakfast, again, I ask to resolve this, they agree it was a mistake again, again…no even a « sorry » Other less important annoyance: only 2 elevators, one out of order, the only one was the rooftop access one, so you have to queue a lot to access your room, I mean…really a lot, when you spent the day visiting you don’t want to wait super long to access your room. Last but not least, I confirm the other comments about how « cold » and unfriendly the staff is (maybe due to inexperience as they are all around 20yes old) but still, a «sorry we made a mistake » a « sorry for the sound » nothing, even the guy (the only nice person) who went with us during the room switch confirm they have very often (and all weekends) complains about the noise. Long story, sorry, but I wanted people to know, maybe in the winter when the rooftop might be close part of the annoyance will disappear, but the unfriendliness of staff remains. I’m sorry for the nice employee that was the only one customer-centric, but I’ll never go back again.

Dear Stephane E, The GRACE Bar & Rooftop with its sound concept is part of HOTEL ZOO BERLIN's success. But we take all the care to ensure that our guests and neighbors are protected from noises, especially after midnight. We would still like to apologize for the inconvenience, that we did not find the right room that met your expectations for a quite stay. We understand your frustration with the technical disruption. Unfortunately, due to safety regulations, it was not possible to perform engine maintenance during peak hours. Our staff is trained to act and react professionally in each situation, but still being authentic. Unfriendly or rude behavior is unacceptable, and will be followed internally. Our second time at Zoo Hotel and just as delightful as the first time! Our room was lovely with a most comfortable bed and always impeccably serviced. The bathroom had a powerful shower with a fine array of toiletries and benefitted from underfloor heating.Bathrobes and slippers were also provided if required. The entrance to the hotel is lovely although we would prefer it to be less dark in order to further admire the Diane von Furstenberg carpet! Finally all staff we encountered were most professional and helpful. Full marks from me!

Location top right on Ku’damm Berlin. Had panoramic rooms on the 6th floor out back. Unfortunately, despite sound insulation quite loud - especially the train you can hear all night. Bathroom extremely small, poorly lit and sliding door does not close. Since the toilet is just behind, this is very uncomfortable. Breakfast and breakfast room very pleasant. Friendliness at check out leaves a lot to be desired. No conversation of any kind - invoice was handed over wordlessly, no farewell or similar. Doesn't have to be either but with 5 stars I just expect that. There are significantly better hotels in the immediate vicinity. I'm afraid we won't be back.

Very convenient location, the sightseeing tourist bus stop is a 2 minute walk and we used that as transport to hop on and off at checkpoint charlie and the museums etc. Didnt use train so dont know about trains.

I don’t know about the gym but I do know that it is a beautiful artistically pleasing hotel serving one of the best breakfast feasts I’ve experienced to date.
