We booked 3 nights of the Mercure Hotel Berlin City West, and ended up leaving one day early because we were that unsatisfied with the hotel. At check-in we were charge an extra fee for being on leisure instead of business I guess. The elevator wasn't in operation and they put us on the 6th floor, which we had to climb the stairs to with our luggage. I booked a superior room because there was supposed to be coffee and tea making facilities, but there were none. The free wifi was non existent for me because I couldn't log on, even when I brought my computer to reception for help. I asked for coffee making equipment and a hot water kettle was put in our room while we were out, nothing else, no coffee, tea, sugar, cups, nothing. The pool was a lot smaller than it looked on the website, and the tables near the pool weren't cleared of food items or beverages let by people. We didn't purchase breakfast so I can't comment on that. One good thing is the parking in front of the hotel was free. We won't be returning.

Had an interesting experience where on check out at 5AM there was noone on reception. Noone around at all. Long story short they had locked the doors and you couldn't get out the hotel. So I even had to go behind the reception desk after 10min and get myself out of the door with the security keys. ( had a plane to catch) I complained as this could an issue if there was an emergency, customers all locked in and no staff. Got a rude reply fom Katrin Elze Assistant to the Manager obviously finding it very funny and the reply was just smug. I don't, I had the boldness to unlock the doors with the keys behind reception, others wouldn't. Dont stay here, if theres an emergency you're locked in with no customer support or regard for health and safety.

The hotel is right at the entrance to the U7 underground station, which is good. However, I find the policy of extra fees appaling. The room was fully booked upfront online and when checking out I was asked a weird question what the nature of my visit to Berlin was (!). Does anyone has the right to ask me about it? What if I do not answer this question? And as it turned out, "Holiday/private/leisure/visiting friends/sightseeing" are the answers which mean you will have to pay extra EUR 3,18 for nothing. Does a private trip mean that I use the room EUR 3,18 "more" than on a business trip? Does the hotel want to punish those on "private" trips and tell them "Do not come to visit Berlin or you must pay extra"??? Ridiculous policy. Not coming to Berlin, next time I will choose places where I am not punished because I am not on a business trip.

Dear Guest, thank you for the rating. We would like to make a comment on your point with the City Tax. This tax has been required by law since 2014 and applies to all major German cities. The city tax, or tourist tax, is always payable directly to the hotel if a guest travels privately. Furthermore, the amount is to be paid at the end of the month completely to the city of Berlin. Sincerely, Stefanie Bobon - General Manager

This hotel has two attractions: 1. It is close to Tegel airport. 2. It is next to the Siemens headquarters. We chose the hotel for the first reason - not for a characterful place, as this is a standard business hotel, nor is it one for tourists to linger in. However as a standard business hotel (that is also able to arrange taxis to the airport and/or alarm calls at 3 am) it functioned perfectly, which is what we wanted. The rooms were clean and neat. The hotel restaurant was good with very friendly staff. Hence, within these criteria, five stars.

Stayed here because the location was convenient to my client's office. Not sure I would do it again. Although the staff was friendly enough, nothing else went well. AC in the room was not functional, so I tried to sleep with the window open all night. A constantly barking dog, sirens, and continous noise from the busy street made that difficult. Ate dinner in their restaurant, which was disappointing. Minimal selections on the menu, so I chose the Schnitzel, which was not very tasty, and dry. Wanted some sort of vegetables with my meal, but the only choice was fries or croquettes, neither of which I am supposed to eat. Breakfast was ok though, but not overwhelming. Overall, it is a place to stay when you can't find another hotel close by.
