I booked for two days. An email was required if we were to check in after 10pm. I sent an email saying we would be later than 10pm Out of our control, the plane was delayed. We arrived at the hotel after midnight. Place was locked. Called, rang, knocked, emailed, to no avail. We had to find another hotel in... More

Contacted the hotel to ask if late checking was possible, as our flight would not arrive until later. No response so assumed we could not have the room. As it turns out our bag was stolen at the airport so we spent most of the night with the airport police. Received a very rude and abrupt email the following morning... More

We stayed for two nights during our visit to Berlin. The rooms were pretty basic and nothing amazing but clean and tidy. The first night we had an en-suite which was preferred but the second we ha to move to a shared bathroom room. This was no fault of the hotel, Laterooms are normally clear but not on this occasion.... More

I have had a very awful experience with Hotel de Ela. Firstly we had trouble to find the hotel because it is located in a dead-end street and the hotel in part of a prefab building with very noisy residents. Basically, Hotel de Ela is the first floor of the building, so in order to get in you should pass... More

Look, Berlin is expensive. If you want to save money on a room, stay here. I didn't mind it at all. Nothing fancy, old building, old decor, pretty run down but I can handle that. I just need a comfy bed and a good shower, which it had. My room is for sleeping, so when I travel I look for... More

I love this hotel, I have stayed twice and hope to again. If you're looking for an identikit travelodge / premier inn type hotel then it's probably not for you - it is in a lovely old apartment building, the rooms are huge with high ceilings, meaning they are light and airy. The floorboards creak as you'd expect in a... More

Having read all the reviews I was kind of afraid of the hotel. But it is really ok - for what you pay. Staff is nice and reasonably helpful. The room was clean, furniture not really nice, but the bed comfortable. The bathroom was also clean. Breakfast was fine. Location is wonderful, in a very pleasant part of Berlin, 10... More

We went to the Hotel in July 2014. The room was big enough but was shaking when we walked in the room. The TV was not working and the staff did not want to do anything at 10 p.m. The bathroom was clean and old. The next day my wife needed to breast feed our 3 month baby around checkout... More

The hotel itself looks nothing like the photos. It's really old and smells musty. There is a partition wall between the bedrooms so you can actually hear next door as there is an an inch gap. The pump in the bathroom is so loud and annoying. My main issue was with the woman on the main desk with blonde hair.... More

Staying in Schoneberg

Neighborhood Profile
Schoneberg
In 1963, Schöneberg was the center of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the center of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.
