We had a wonderful stay at the Westin Grand Berlin. Being an Elite Bonvoy member, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite overlooking the nice Unter Den Linden Boulevard. The hotel location is excellent, walking distance to most of the major attractions and shops. We only used Uber/subway a few times. The famous Brandenburg Gate is about 10min walk, the Checkpoint Charlie, Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral are about 20min walk. We even walked all the way to TV Tower, about 30min, and along the way, we got to aee were several ttractions and nice historical huildings. There is a subway stop U5 right outside the hotel, making travel to further attractions such as East Side Gallery, Hofbrau Berlin, Victory Column, Tiergarten etc very convenient. They offer free full buffet breakfast for Elite members. The food selection is very excellent and of good quality (Omellette station, dried sausages, salami, ham, smoked salmon, yogurts, cereals, bakery, bread, fresh juice, fresh fruit, etc). We particularly loved the fresh seeded bread. On Saturday night, there was nice live music in the lobby bar, playing nice popular songs. The staff were all friendly and service with a smile. Beautiful hotel and great location. We enjoyed our 5 day stay at the Westin. It is in walking distance of museum island which was a big plus for us. Staff was always helpful. The one thing we did not like was that they use some sort of air fragrance in all the public spaces. It smells to me like a chemical version of frankincense. A little to overpowering.

Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable, with the usual hotel facilities. The bar is a nice place to sit, being set around the huge hotel staircase and atrium area. Hotel is showing its age a little, but in an excellent location close to the Brandenberg Gate, museum district, checkpoint charlie and good public transport links .

The rooms are renovated and quite nice but the rest of the hotel is still very aged. The spa could definitely improve seen as the pool is closed and the spa cost 8 euros a day. Its a nice hotel but feels like it did not adapt to the current times. Would recommend only for the room rest can be avoided.

We have just had a wonderful stay here for the first time and cannot praise this hotel highly enough. We had a garden room on the 5th floor which was very quiet, spotlessly clean and serviced every day. The breakfast room is huge with everything you could want in a hot and cold buffet. The interior of the hotel is stunning but it is a shame that you can no longer enter by the huge staircase. Every member of staff we came across was friendly and helpful, they really look after their guests. The reception will also book a taxi for your departure. The hotel is ideally situated for all the major attractions, within walking distance. We look forward to coming back.

I have traveled the world over but never have I experienced a worse room. There are curtains that simulate window shades except there are no windows. Stay here if you want to know what living in East Berlin felt like. Shocking for an American chain. Appalling, abysmal and awful.

Not great experience at all. I booked and paid for a city view. Was told I was upgraded and instead was given a view of a bush within a garden. It definitely wasn't an upgrade and more like a downgrade. On top of that I asked to use laundry/iron service and was told there's an iron in the room. I explained in on vacation and don't want to spend long time ironing and happy to pay (that's why they provide the service). Just seems very weird a hotel doesn't seem keen to help despite the fact I am paying a lot of money to stay. I've stayed at many Marriott hotels around the world. Seems the worse one to date. Definitely won't be coming back here again. Alexander

Should you have booked a Deluxe to the street you indeed was upgraded as garden view is a higher category. We regret that we could not find a room with a nicer view. We can understand if you don't want to spend time with ironing, but regrettably iron and laundry service will be offered at certain times, especially on weekends and at night. This is a typical American brand, big lobby, decent size rooms, but run off the mill design, Nespresso in the room, but they could do with better quality amenities in the bathroom, make it more chic, but, comfortable stay, no complains, could just step out and walk everywhere, very good location

Four things to know about this hotel before you book. 1. If you book early you will pay more. 311 euros a night booked three months ahead. 200 euros a night booked three weeks ahead. Look at any booking website. 2. On check-in they take the full amount of your stay from your credit card, plus a 50 euros a day deposit "in case you use the mini-bar". (In fact the mini-bar is empty - see photo). This might be a problem if you have credit limit issues. 3. They use sweaty, clammy poly-cotton bed-linen - see photo of label. You cannot change hotels because they have already trousered your money. To sleep properly we had to buy our own fully cotton bed-linen - see photo of receipt. The reason they use poly-cotton is explained on the manufacturer's website: "Bed linen must be lightweight...thus allowing staff to work faster....Experience shows that savings of 5 to 10% can be achieved". Nothing about the comfort of guests. The staff say that all Westin hotels use poly-cotton. Totally unacceptable in a serious hotel and we shall not stay in a Westin hotel again. 4. Because of the hotel's layout, most bedrooms are 50 to 120 meters from the elevators. In the course of a day you can easily walk a kilometre or more to and from your room. In other respects it is well positioned, if you wish to be in Mitte, the breakfast is good, and the staff are professional and helpful to the extent that the chain allows. Garden rooms are a very little bit smaller than rooms on the street, but much quieter and a few have a balcony.…

We are very sorry that your stay was not to your satisfaction. Yes, the prices are adjusted to the market situation. This can mean that if you book early, you end up with a relatively good rate because good occupancy has pushed prices up. It can also mean that prices have fallen due to the occupancy situation. There is no guarantee of this, but we understand that you are upset. 2. at check in we need a credit card as a guarantee. This has nothing to do with mistrust per se, but it is a normal international procedure. 50 euros per day will be reserved for the extras and the accommodation amount if it has not been paid in advance. We should perhaps communicate this better at check in. We are extremely sorry that you were not satisfied with the bed linen and even bought your own. The Westin in Berlin is located along 3 streets. Unfortunately, it is unavoidable that the rooms on Unter den Linden Boulevard are the furthest away from the main entrance. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about that. Firstly on to the positives - the location is convenient, the staff is friendly and helpful and the common areas are mostly what you would expect from a Westin Grand. It is clear that they have not spent much resources on keeping the guest rooms up-to-date though, the air circulation was sub-par (very try air throughout the room) and the gym is a big disappointment. A few older treadmills and cross-trainers but no free weights or other equipment. Also, no room service before 5 pm is unheard of for property that markets itself as five-star. All-in-all more akin to an average four-star property but with a Westin brand attached to it. Will not be in a hurry to return.
