I stayed at an Axel (Barcelona) years ago and loved the smart stylish gay vibe. We booked into Axel Berlin for Folsom 2021 and found the hotel tired, smelly and unloved. Service was curt and perfunctory. No effort at any point to make anyone feel welcome. Uncomfortable bed, terrible pillows and a stench in the room that just never went away. Missing some of the basics you expect from a good hotel - like water, coffee/ tea making facilities, tissues, etc. We paid over the odds as it was Folsom - but this has to be the worst value for money I’ve seen in years. Never again.

I had an absolutely amazing time over here! It's so great to be in a place where being gay is the standard. In the spa you can meet fellow guests from all over the world and making contact feels so easy. And I couldn't agree less with all the reviewers who complain about the housekeeping (like there isn't any dust on the walls in your own home: come on people) or the behaviour of the staff. When I arrived, there seemed to be a problem with one of the elevators and therefor a line was forming. However, as soon as the receptionist (who was at the time solving the issue) saw me, he said he'd be there straight away. Then he checked me in in the most friendly, charming and polite way you could imagine. Everytime I left or entered the hotel, he greeted and smiled. And yes, this was the curly haired, young guy some others complained about. Just saying ;-) At check out, a huge gorgeous black man was behind the desk, just as friendly as the other receptionist and the manager himself. So I left with the same smile as I had when arriving. I'd recommend this hotel to any gay man who wants to feel at home or at ease.

A hard hotel to judge. Some pieces I loved, others were not so great. First off the location is outstanding. I loved it - very convenient. The staff was great. Room was cozy. I didn’t like the dark hallways. I know they are trying for a sexy vibe, but it was creepy. Breakfast was awful. The spa on the top floor was filthy. Wet towels all over the place. No attendant on duty.

We went to the hotel one month ago. Were charged 39,50 euros for something we supposedly took from the mini-bar. The staff didn’t believe us when we said we didn’t and there was no possible arrangement. The marketing and communication department of the Axel Hotel Group didn’t even reply when we complained about this. As faithful customers to the Axel Hotel (we went to three other hotels of the Group), we are particularly disappointed of the lack of consideration this hotel provides to their customers…
