Booked two nights, left after one. Hotel has no, and I mean no, air circulation or window coverings which means we couldn’t sleep on a hot evening, and the sun blazes in at 6:30am. When we told reception we didn’t sleep at all, the answer wasn’t “how can we help you” or “can we change your room” but rather, “you paid for two nights so you’ll have to pay us for both to leave”. We then had to argue for them to discount the included breakfast on the second day, which they only did upon us insisting. As for the breakfast, it’s totally unfit for COVID. They cram everyone into a small room, with lots of other rooms in their restaurant available including an empty outside terrace, and refuse to spread people out. There was a man coughing profusely during breakfast in the middle of a pandemic, and they refused to even let us take our food to an empty outside table. We didn’t even have our breakfast the first day. What a waste, don’t let the reviews fool you. Unless you’re desperate, stay somewhere else.

Unfortunately I have not been able to stay at the hotel yet, but am already impressed with their customer service and empathy. My trip supposed to be 10 days from now and unfortunately due to corona virus and the flight restrictions I have to reschedule. I contacted them immediately and their response was wonderful - said they understood & hoped to see me in the future....which they most definitely will. I certainly want to commend them for this response as it is not the response at other hotels.

Despite traveling solo, I got one of their Comfort Double Rooms, as I was there for 3 nights and appreciated the roominess. The staff were all just wonderful.....so kind and friendly and helpful. The breakfast...well, it was the absolute best during my 3 week, 5 hotel visit during the Christmas Markets. I was pleasantly stuffed every morning! A recent reviewer gives the room only 3 stars. Okay, I admit that they are not sumptuous, but they are a common type of comfy, simple, German that I love. My room (20) was spotlessly clean and the chairs were comfortable and the bed was VERY comfortable. The bathroom was spotless. My room had no stunning view, but did have WiFi. The whole experience was so memorable for me, and I would not hesitate to stay again.

Really perfect location and environment. Dinner and breakfast gave us the perfect German feel that you would want in a village town like this. The staff was also very helpful with my Mom needing laundry. However, I am surprised at the "excellent" ratings of the hotel. The room itself is definitely no more than a 3 star and it wasn't particularly clean, with an array of different people's hairs plastered on the walls and floors of the bathroom. Yet I would still recommend this hotel overall.

From the minute you step through the front door, you are treated like a special guest; promptly checked in, and taken to your room. Ursula, and her mother, Brigitte, are exceptionally kind, considerate, thoughtful, and helpful, as is the rest of their staff. The restaurant is lovely and the food is delicious. Breakfast is served in a more personal way in that it is not completely a buffet setting. Instead, your table is provided with a beautiful meat and cheese plate, breads, jams, and coffee. Your order is taken for eggs as you like them. You may also request a cappuccino, latte, or other type of coffee rather than a pot of coffee. Juices, yogurt, and cereals are on a table in the center of the room. It is all very nicely done and delicious! Yes, there is a grand staircase to climb to get to the rooms above the restaurant, but the climb is well worth it. This hotel is old, with grand and interesting architectural features and fixtures (door, door latches, etc). Our room was located above the back courtyard. It was very spacious, and had three sets of windows. We loved the fresh air the open windows provided. Our beds were very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. We opted for the special package which included dinner at the hotel on one night, the Night Watchmen's tour, and tickets to the Crime and Punishment Museum. Each was a real treat. Dinner was quite delicious and the service excellent. The tour by Night Watchman, Hans Georg Baumgartner, was entertaining, and so much fun. The Crime and Punishment Museum was also entertaining and educational. The wonderful people at Hotel-Gasthof Goldener Greifen impressed us in many ways .... great service, great rooms, great food, and by making us feel welcome and at home. We highly recommend this hotel!
