We booked the junior suite in the hope of a bit more luxury and just got more space, but dated and basic room. The junior suite seemed to be two existing small hotel rooms joined together. Strange things annoyed me like the peach fury bed under sheet and mixed coloured bath towels. White would be better for both. The floor...

I stayed here for a week while in Oberammergau on business. I travel quite a bit and have stayed in a variety of hotels from 5 Star (that were actually 5 star hotels) to ones I would never return. The Parkhotel Sonnenhof is a decent hotel with a very nice sized room. However, it didn't come with refrigerator, but they...

Well, where do I begin? The hotel is a homely and welcoming one where Manger Frank, and his staff, pull out all stops to make sure you have a great stay. The food is excellent and we were lucky to participate in the Christmas lead up with different nightly events during and after dinner where we got to meet other...

We stayed here after a visit to NeuSchwanstein and enjoyed the town just before ski season really kicked off. Great walking town and beautiful little river that bisects the town making for an easy walk and landmark to navigate by as the hotel overlooks the river. Views were great, rooms nice, and the staff was very helpful. The layout of...

We stayed at the Parkhotel Sonnenhof in Oberammergau, Southern Bavaria, for a week early in September, 2016 and greatly enjoyed it. The hotel is beside the river Ammer, which runs through the town. It’s a flat, 10-minute walk from the railway station to the hotel along a path by the river, or around 3 minutes by taxi – if you...

Our room was large, quiet and very comfortable. It was actually a suite. The location is excellent, overlooking the river through town and with a view of the surrounding mountains. A short walk to the center of town, and a short drive to many nearby sights. The staff was very helpful, recommending good nearby hikes and other attractions. One warning:...

Today was a grueling 5.5 hour hike in Hollentalklamm (hells valley). Roughly 15 miles. Checked trip advisor & found this room for $100. We checked in, & greeted with smiles & an upgrade to a suite! Amazing! We will stay another night, as the accommodations & amenities (spa&indoor pool) sound amazing for tomorrow. This is an excellent find! You won't...

We stayed here for several days while visiting the local castles and hiking within the local area. The hotel has plenty of free parking and is easy to find. It is located within a very reasonable distance to visit the Ettal Monastery as well as Neuschwanstein castle. The town itself is beautiful and quiet. The hotel is a very good...

Here for a weekend hiking holiday. Was provided with a large suite with a full walk-in closet and changing area, something you rarely see. Balcony had great views of the mountain. All kinds of amenities for kids including outdoor and indoor playground. Very friendly staff.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Feeling well has a reason". Under this motto, we like to welcome you in our Parkhotel Sonnenhof The Parkhotel Sonnenhof is a family owned 3 - star - Superior - hotel in the higher middle class, build 1977 in an alps - country style. It has 35 doubles and superior doubles, 5 single rooms and 15 junior suites and apartments. The Parkhotel is located in the beautiful scenery of the Ammertal, in the outskirts of our village and right in front of the "Kofel", the main mountain of Oberammergau which is inside the Ammergau Alps. It is not least the extraordinary people who have made Oberammergau to what it is: a colorful array of art, culture and tradition, a successful blend of earthy local ties and cosmopolitan hospitality. Masterful "Luftlmalerei" (house paintings) emblazoned on the fronts of houses, all thriving arts and crafts, cozy restaurants and cafes tempt you to stop. The village's cultural and spiritual legacy was shaped by the Passion of Christ. Since 1634, Oberammergauers have kept their vow to stage a Passion Play every ten years, the next occasion being in 2020. On the last occasion, some 2,500 of the approximately 5,300 inhabitants of Oberammergau were involved on or behind stage, including 500 children. During the interim years, high-calibre international ensembles present plays and concerts. Visit us and experience the magic of Oberammergau's creative flair Hiking, Nordic Walking, Cycling or simply swimming and sun bathing - the possibilities are almost unlimited in the Ammergau Alps. In wintertime the Ammergau Alps offer a lot of activities - cross-country skiing, skiing, tobogganning, snowshoeing - the snow-sure situation of the Ammer Valley allow almost everything. The Bavarian fairy tale King Ludwig II is closely connected with the Ammergau Alps. Here stands his Linderhof Palace, the only one which he also lived for several years. Also castle Neuschwanstein which is just 45km away. At the end of a day with many activities and cultural experiences relax in our modern wellness area or treat yourself with a luxurious beauty cure or a massage of your choice. ... more   less

“Describe what you like and the staff will give you the best advice. All the hotel is located in a very quiet corner of the town. Personnaly, I like the ones facing the town. No noise is heard, other that the sound of the church bells that echoes through the valley and the river flowing nearby. No A/C but very efficient heating system. TV, separate dressing-closet, safe, and minibar with assorted beverages was available in my room (junior-suite).”
