as noted its a pleasant downhill walk to town, which of course means a steep climb back at the end of the day.so maybe not suitable for all. I did see a hotel minibus and saw taxis visiting. We were 1/2 board with our trip, 3 courses with just a choice of main. all very German and not to our taste. we ate in the bar twice and the food there was great- only order the small burger they are huge - proper homemade burgers. Beer and wine were good and cheap compared to uk so dinners were not expensive. Staff spoke some English and rooms were decent size and traditional. small bathroom but good hot water supply for the shower. super clean and well maintained.

I have only checked in and checked out of this hotel (not stayed), but I would not recommend it! There are many hotels in Berchtesgaden: I strongly recommend choosing another one! If you chose to stay here, be aware! If you experience any trouble with payment, or change anything with your reservation, be careful to get everything in writing as the hotel will not honor their own agreements. Even if you don’t perceive it as a disagreement, get everything in writing! In our case, we were in agreement, there was no discussion, and we still ended up paying for two nights after checking out! What happened? My sister and I had made a two-night reservation via Booking.com and arrived after 7pm on a Friday night. We had booked a standard twin room and were given a horrible room on the 4th floor. We didn’t want to stay here, it was not what we had booked, and we requested another room. The hotel could not help us at all! They were fully booked, and they said they could do nothing. We therefore wanted to cancel the reservation and find another hotel. The hotel accepted this and we checked out. This was not what we wanted to do on a Friday evening, but we would rather find another hotel than to stay in the room we were given. (I suspect that this room is only used when the hotel is overbooked. If I go to the hotel's website, the room is not listed and it is not possible to book it.) We checked out, found another hotel and were quite happy. Home from vacation, I see that my credit card had been charged, despite the fact that the hotel accepted our cancelation. I call the hotel and on two separate occasions I’m reassured by the hotel’s receptionist that everything is OK with my cancelation and that I will get my money back! The only reason I have to wait is because the manager who can authorize bank refund is on vacation. I wait, and then I get an email saying that they cannot refund my money because I didn’t cancel the reservation via Booking before 6 pm! This was very surprising as neither the deadline nor Booking was mentioned to us at all when we checked out! I reply with this, and also point out that it was not possible to cancel before 6pm as we checked in after 7 pm. The hotel then changes their claim: not to cancel before 6pm, but just via Booking. The problem here is that the hotel never mentioned any deadline or canceling via Booking! Had they told us, I could have canceled within a minute via the Booking app on my mobile phone! I have repeatedly tried to get my money back, but have had no luck. There are many hotels in Berchtesgaden: chose another one!

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Kronprinz. The best part was the extraordinary view from the patio. We had drinks there every night and ate supper there a few nights. The food was good. Get a room with a view of the mountains. it's worth the extra money. The staff was very pleasant. Lots of local atmosphere. I would definitely stay there again.

We arrived after quite a hard (uphill) day on the bikes, so the final climb to this hotel added a bit of insult to injury. Reception staff were very welcoming. We enjoyed nice views from our balcony onto the mountains. As we didn't feel like venturing out into the town, we ate in both nights. Food choice was good, and everything we tried was excellent. A couple of small niggles about the restaurant: the lighting made the tables really hot, and we could have done without the background music of cheesy 70s music, courtesy of what sounded like a radio station.
