#6 of 46 Specialty lodging in Freiburg im Breisgau
For more than 60 years the Latvian House in Freiburg im Breisgau, southern Germany has been the meeting place of Latvians living in Europe. The old villa, located nearby the Zähringen castle ruins, was originally built in 1894 for the German poet Emil Gött and was later converted into an active Latvian culture centre and hotel. Freiburg is conveniently located close to the German borders with France and Switzerland, and it is also a three hours drive away from Italy, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Belgium. Therefore this hotel is a great place to stay for three or more days and enjoy the beautiful nature and countless cultural sights in the closest vicinity. Lettisches Haus is a family friendly, non-smoking hotel and to provide peaceful atmosphere we do not have TV in our rooms. If you arrive with public transportation, it is important to know, that Lettisches Haus is approximately 4 km away from the city centre and almost 1 km away from the nearest public transportation.

Hotel is a converted house (which must have been huge before it was a hotel). All the staff was very friendly, reception even showed us to our room. This hotel is a somewhat remote location, but beautiful. They do offer a 3 item dinner selection if you do not want to drive back down into town. The night we were there it was a cheese/tomato salad, tomato soup, or pizza. Several outdoor seating areas were available. We were exhausted when we arrived so the location was perfect for us. Very relaxing. A great location to take a walk in a quaint residential location with the black forest as a backdrop. It really was beautiful. If you are looking for a posh, full-service hotel, this is not the location for you. If you are good with a different hotel experience, try it out. We would go back to stay again. Free parking onsite. Note, we were several flights of stairs up (about four stories, 50 or so stairs). They offered to help with our baggage but we could manage fine as we were traveling light.

This tranquil Inn is off the beaten path, a bit of a drive from the main city, but is such a relaxing and clean place to stay. The staff was extremely helpful in answering our questions and giving great advice on what to see. There is a common room where you can just gather and talk and kids can play. They also have a cafe they will prepare a small meal if you would like and a dining room where you can play board games. Beverages are available to purchase in the cafe and hot tea and coffee is free. Our room had skylights that opened, and we felt like we were staying in the trees with the cuckoo birds. Price was great. We would stay here again if we had the opportunity. The roads getting to the Lettisches Haus were a bit crowded. Beautiful views.

We were a family of five and were impresed with the place where we stayed for 3 nights - located up a hill in a quiet place (originally Latvia House). Excellent staff very co-operative and committed to make your stay very comfortable. We had a two bedroom unit very clean and neat. You go out of the hotel and you are met with such beautiful sceneries in the mountains - a real dream place if you are to stay here. They also have a hearth around which you could sit and enjoy your drink.Good breakfast and pizzas served in hotel (a a cost ofcourse). The resaturant area was also allowed to eat food from outside along with your drinks The main disadvantages - it is a good half an hour forty five minute walk to the hotel up the hill. When we arrived from Freiburg Hbf to freiburg zahringen station, we did not have a local sim card. Had to request services of a small shop to book us a cab. Therefore, to go to the city and go around various places (we went to Mundenhoff, tourded the beautiful city and also went to Titisee) we had to either walk or book a cab till the tram station. Though a pleasure walking, it amounted to losing time when you are on a tour to see places. I will definitel visit again to enjoy the place and ensure that I have a vehicle !!!!

Brilliant place. Rooms are clean and lovely. Laura was amazing! She was alone in the evening and it got a little busy but she handled everything perfectly, even cooking us all pizzas, and didn't even seem flustered. Very welcoming, Will definitely come back if I'm ever in that area.

Excellent & Charming Hotel. The place was built by a childrens stories writer, and is now part used as a Latvian learning centre and is staffed by Latvians, who were friendly, efficient and courteous. We were given the history of the building by the lovely Laura, pronounced Lowra in Latvian I think, soon after we checked in. Laura deserves a special mention as she really helped to make our stay a great one with her local knowledge, info and friendliness. The house/haus is in a beautiful location up on a hill on the outskirts of Freiburg town centre. A lovely downhill stroll from the hotel to the trams that serve the town well is only 15mins away, however, it's a bit more hard and tiring on the way back up. Literally you are on the edge of the forest, so when you wake up, the setting is stunning. Breakfast is really good with lots of choice. All in all, a really chaming hotel in an idlyllic location. Frieburg itself is a beautiful historic town, and is an ideal base for the stunning Black Forest, which is only a short drive away. Also handy for Europa theme park, around 35km away. The whole area/region is absolutely beautiful, stunning and breathtaking. Visit the area, the town, the Black Forest or Europa Park. Whilst your there, stay in this house/haus. You wont be disappointed. Enjoy.
