My first ski holiday was 25 years ago and we have been back to Val d'Isere many times , but L'Avancher is the best of the lot ! It is close to the free bus stop and close , but not too close to all the bars and restaurant , so we slept soundly every night . We did eat... More

A very friendly atmosphere with personal service. Breakfast is excellent and the restaurant is good, if a little bit heavy on the cheese (very Savoyard). Rooms are comfortable with pleasant views on the mountain. Ski back to the door and a short walk or bus to the pistes. Been going for years and I highly recommended it.

Really enjoyed the long weekend we spent here. We arrived very early and the hotel opened reception especially for us to help us out and get us on the slopes by first lift. They were extremely helpful all throughout our stay. Nice breakfasts and the restaurant was always busy at dinner although we never ate there. You *have* to visit... More

A good hotel with excellent food and a very good location for easy skiing. The ski bus stops 100m away to get to the main lifts. For return the hotel is an easy ski back. Rooms are cosy but comfortable. The sauna is a pleasant extra for after a long day on the slopes. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in this lovely hotel for five nights with our two kids, aged 5 and 7. We had some amazing days. The food was very nice with lots of local products and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. We had a room for four persons, it was very spaciuous and nice, with lots of room for all our... Triple room is cosy but well equipped and fine for one adult plus two teenage boys. Hotel position is slightly out of town but ski hire shop is just opposite and bus service to town/ski-runs is excellent (never waited more than 5 mins!). Very friendly staff, breakfast is good and sauna very welcome after a day on the slopes. All... More

Paul, Thank you so much for such a nice review, it was a pleasure having you with us, The location of the hotel is slightly out of the way but only a short walk to the slopes or a 2 minute bus ride (free shuttle every 5 minutes). You are also able to ski straight back down to the hotel... More

Cant really fault this place for a economical midweek stay. The rooms are really clean, the staff friendly and welcoming. Breakfast has everything you could want including selection of daily newspapers. Little touches that make the difference, such as good wifi, boot/ski storage room, convenient room key return procedure, lots fresh clean towels, communal shower and sauna downstairs. Would recommend... More

We ate at the restaurant in March. We were staying in Val D'Isere town, but this restaurant is slightly out (1 bus stop from the centre of town). On arrival I was a bit concerned we had crashed the hotel guests half board dinner, however I was wrong; lots of dinners were also not staying at the hotel. The staff... More

Hi there, Thanks for a great review, We're glad that you enjoyed the restaurant which is open to everyone, in fact the majority of our clients at the restaurant are not hotel guests, We look forward to seeing you again in Val d'Isère, maybe you can come and stay as a half-board hotel guest this time! We had room 1 and this was perfect for our needs. The hotel is a 3 minute walk from the bus stop and then it is only two stops to the ski lifts. In the evening and without ski boots on, the walk into town is a pleasant 10 minute stroll. The view from room 1 is really beautiful. We... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The hotel L'Avancher is a wooden chalet, built in 1949 by a visionary, an ambitious construction worker for the Dam of Tignes. Signed over to Charles and Renee Kassenberg in 1958 it was immediately turned into a hotel, making it one of the oldest hotels in Val d'Isere. Their daughter Francoise, spent her childhood in this chalet, making her the natural successor. Today, Fred Monneret has taken over the reins, enhancing the authenticity and hospitality, two of the hotel's most important values. The hotel has 17 rooms, a restaurant, a living-room, a sauna, a ski workshop that turns into a mountain bike workshop in the summer. By the end of January, you can make the most of the sun on the large wooden terrace or the small garden. This chalet, full of history, is regularly renovated, allowing it to combine both authenticity and modernity. A five-minute walk from the town center and 50 meters from the bus stop, this chalet allows you to make the most of the ski resort's animations without having to endure the noisy nightlife. (See map) The slopes are five minutes away and you can ski directly back to the hotel, (depending on snow conditions at the beginning and end of season). ... more   less
