I stayed at this hotel overnight between two train trips. Its central location on place Bellecour was a selling point. My room was spacious and faced the back, which made for a good night’s sleep in a very comfortable bed. The bathroom, though well equipped, felt a bit dated and could do with an upgrade. The hotel doesn’t quite feel like the five star property it officially is. All in all, a good location for a short stay, though hardly luxurious.

The hotel is in a great location to explore Lyon. It’s a short walk to Vieux Lyon and there is public transport just outside the door. We got an upgrade at check it with a view of the bell tower of the old Hôpital de la Charité and the Rhône river. It also had a balcony. The king sized bed was almost too good. We went all the way to Lyon and didn’t want to get out of bed. Only issue with the room was keeping water from spilling out of the shower. The shower door needed to be pulled in a little. Service at the hotel was exceptional, particularly at the bar. They make delicious cocktails, the best we’ve had in France so far. It’s hard to make a good cocktail with a peaty scotch like Laphroaig but they nailed it. Thanks for the great weekend!

The hotel is ok. Well located and the rooms in the last floor are nice. But it’s nothing like the category it says to be « luxury ». No minibar (but they’ll serve till midnight, they say), leaky shower head, and the bathroom should be refreshed (90s?). People write great stuff about breakfast but what we got was totally average. Generic jam, standard viennoiseries, and stale scrambled eggs. The coffee was tepid. Finally the premisses are a bit cramped. So if you want luxury in Lyon, steer clear. On the other hand, if at the time of booking the price seems ok comparatively for an good comfort but non luxury place, go ahead, I give you my blessing.

This was a gorgeous hotel, lovely staff, great rooms (I had an executive room), great location I extended my stay. Would stay here again soon...the views from the 5th floor are amazing. Walk to everything even the old town once you learn the routes. It is opposite the main shopping hub.

This was about my fifth visit to the hotel le royal and as always really enjoyed my stay. It has a great location and the breakfast is really enjoyable. I was a little disappointed that my Diamond status was not recognized with an upgrade especially since I was staying for 7 nights but my south facing room was very bright and I enjoyed it immensely, maybe next time. I would highly recommend this hotel for couples, it might be tight for a family. The On site restaurant is certainly worth a visit since it is part of the cooking school, great to watch the young chefs honing their skills.
