The location is great and some of the public areas are smart enough although small. The breakfast was good with a wide selection on offer and fresh eggs cooked to order. There is very little space between the tables so getting up to go to the buffet could be a challenge for some and a cold wind that whistles through the room so wear a jumper. The room We had a suite on the fourth floor overlooking the square and the views are great. Unfortunately it was not really a suite it was two rooms with an adjoining door. The first room has an old uncomfortable sofa that the cushions slid off if you at on it and one assumes it opens into a bed (god help anyone that had to sleep on that! The rooms are sad, dated, tired with cheep chipped furniture, scuffed walls, ugly carpet and dirty windows. The bathrooms haven’t been decorated since the late 80’s ( who doesn’t love standing in a bath tub with a handheld shower!) there is a hair dryer in the bathroom but the bear wires were a little concerning. The service at reception and concierge was nonchalant to the point of useless. Taxis were booked in advance and then at the agreed time of arrival we were told it was not coming because of the rain or the traffic and we should take the metro or a bus! No apology just a shrug of the shoulders. I would not recommend this hotel.

We booked a superior room overlooking the Place Bellecour and was very surprised when we walked in our room. The room was nicely decorated with beautiful wallpapers, drapes, and furniture. It was larger than I expected with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The room had a good size bathroom as well. The water was included in our booking which was very nice. The view from our room was also beautiful and to see locals going about their business. There is a bar located on the premise which serves decent cocktails. This hotel also has a breakfast service which we did not partake in. I did have a couple of issues during our stay. The room was warm and the AC would not cool down our room. We had to leave the window open to get some cool air in. Being close to a busy street, it would get noisy during the morning rush hour. Also on the left side of the bed there was a fire alarm system which had a red light that would blink at a few seconds intervals. If you're a light sleeper or get disturbed by lights when trying to sleep, this might be an issue.

A great location in the centre of Lyon, with an abundance of staff as many are trainees. Excellent concierge and porter service. Very traditional style hotel, but loved the cosy decor. Great chocolate on the reception desk. An expensive breakfast but one we didn’t regret. Attentive staff that were happy for us to stay and chat over a long breakfast. Food cooked to order and a lovely quality buffet. Loved the boudoir feel of the bar. Our last day it was windy and snowing and we stayed in the bar playing comfortably as any sight seeing was out of the question. The room was comfortable with a big bed, but in the evening before dinner I took a shower in the over shower bath not noticing that although the bath was equipped with a fixed overhead shower head, plus a flexible hose shower head and a glass shower screen that there was a 4cm gap between the top of the bath and the bottom of the screen. So of course I stepped out of the shower into a completely flooded bathroom and toilet. Why there wasn’t a warning notice on the wall I don’t know. I tried to wipe up some of the excess with the bath mat and shower - enough to finish getting ready for dinner, but the toilet was awash with water. Passing the front desk I asked for housekeeping to go to our room to mop up the water and replace the towel. I also expressed how ridiculous the shower set up was and how it must be constantly flooded. I was told no it wasn’t!!! When we got back to our room no one had been in to replace the soaked towels or mop up. Luckily the room was warm so a lot of the water had evaporated. But this is not what I would expect in a 5 star hotel. But we would certainly go back next time in Lyon.

Great hotel, right in the heart of the city, close to restaurant, attractions and everything else. People are really nice and very qualified, rooms are small, but perfectly fitted. The furniture is quite outdated and, for me personally, the mattress was too soft. But, one in all, a perfect place to stay in Lyon, both for business and pleasure.

We enjoyed an excellent winter stay at this hotel, just for 2 nights, but we wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is very centrally located and it would normally be easy to walk anywhere, but one of our family had a knee problem so in fact we used taxis even for short trips on this occasion. The concierge services were impeccable. I particularly appreciated help from the concierge on our first night, when our flight had been significantly delayed arriving in Lyon and we missed the timeslot for our restaurant booking, so the concierge quickly found us another restaurant and a taxi to get there. Check-in and check-out were also smooth. I really appreciated that Reception allowed us to keep one room for a late check-out. We had breakfasts in the hotel both days and were happy with what was available. I booked 3 superior rooms with views of the Place Bellecour. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the bathrooms were fine, no problem with the room temperature and the view was great. I notice that some people below have complained that they had smaller rooms than they expected etc. I guess you get what you pay for, as is the case most places.

Hello, This note to you, is long overdue, but the memory of our stay at your hotel is not. My husband and I stayed with you back in May. Our trip was wonderful, outstanding, and our stay at Hotel Lyon Le Royal was a big part of it. The check in was seamless. Our suite was lovely, spacious, comfortable and we enjoyed the amazing views it offered of Lyon. Our Memorable Moments Tour was a highlight of our trip! The attention to detail, to arrive at the viewing spot was exciting and truly memorable! Drinking champagne, while taking in the views of the city and countryside will not be forgotten. Truly a treasure, I highly recommend taking the tour. We were honored to have as our guide , your hotel manager. His attention to detail created the perfect tour. Thank you. Also, the hotel staff was outstanding too! We enjoyed the suggestions and reservations that were made for us. The restaurant on property was also, very good! Your bar was cozy and charming! As was your breakfast room. Everything was fresh, and we appreciated the variety of choices you offered. Simply said, we had an outstanding time in Lyon, and your hotel contributed to a large part of it. Your friendly and helpful staff also, will not be forgotten. As we have mentioned to friends and family, your hotel is the only place to stay, while visiting Lyon!

This is the hotel/cooking school hospitality teaching school developed by the famous chef Paul Bocuse. They have trainees learning the business. Most spoke English fairly well and made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. Attentive staff, delicious breakfast - can even have eggs made to order and the hours breakfast available was very generous 6:30-11. We stayed in the junior suite/round room and it was fabulous. Luxurious seating and bedding and plenty of storage and work space. Bathroom had separate tub and shower and 2 sinks and amazing natural lighting. AC worked very well. Location well situated for going across both rivers (you will want to visit both sides) plus so much to do right on the 'peninsula' Close to many great restaurants - very walkable. I found it to be fairly quiet despite being in a key area.

We booked a superior courtyard view room but it turned out to be old and small with a brick wall for a view. Disappointing! But on the plus side it has good air con and a spacious modern bathroom and the staff were wonderful, they really couldn’t do enough for us and their recommendations for restaurants were excellent.

A five star hotel should absolutely be on top of it’s game! This why they created 5 stars a few years back so that it sets them apart from regular 4 stars. Those establishments should be refurbished every 20 years at least..this one definitely has not. This hotel is disappointing to say the least. Conviniently located place Bellecour, in the center of Lyon. Staff is made partly of seasoned personnel and a young trainee staff and that’s acceptable as everyone needs to learn sometime. Breakfast room is small and can quickly be crowded but the buffer is good and eggs made to order is on point. Sore point is the room. Damaged and beat up furniture, old shower and grout is warn out and yellow. AC doesn’t work great and it from the 90’s…maybe that was just our room ? Doubt it though. c’mon Accor, invest in this hôtel and do a makeover!

Overall, we had an awful experience at this hotel. When we reached, only 1 room was ready, and the second was not (we arrived around 4 pm). Upon receiving the double room, we found it full of fruit flies and mosquitoes, which was totally unacceptable. A few hours later we were given a much better room (unfortunately our first impression of the hotel was damaged). The rooms in general are dusty and very worn, which does not reflect a 5 star quality. The A/C in one of the rooms was not working either. Staff were unfriendly too. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.
