Nestled in the heart of the city, Grand Hôtel des Alpes receives high marks for its elegant charm and traditional sophistication. The staff's helpfulness and the hotel's pristine cleanliness are often celebrated by guests, as are the comprehensive amenities that include a shuttle service and a beautiful spa. While the rooms are praised for their lovely views, some guests consider them a bit on the small or noisy side.
Opinions on value vary, with certain features like the breakfast and spa sometimes viewed as costly. Nonetheless, the hotel's prime location is widely regarded as ideal for city exploration.

I am giving it a 5 stars even though they deserve a 4.5 at max. It has everything you dream off in a ski hotel aside from ski in/out.
The location is in my opinion, the best you can hope for in Chamonix. Straight on the pedestrian street, short walking distance if not cross from all the activity and the fun.. Restaurants, shops, breakfast stores, rental stores etc... Just perfect. You are also a block away from the Chamonix Centre Bus station that will take you to all ski resorts you want to go to..
Service is great.. The welcome is fantastic.. Everyone is so nice and friendly and helpful. The BEST is the shuttle they provide to the slopes, they go to Grand Montet and Brevent and les Houches, unfortunately they stopped going to Balme (they had their excuse, but not very convincing). The shuttle driver Andres is a sweetheart.. What a gentleman.. This shuttle service is Priceless!!! Also there is a ski locker room with boot warmers (basically blowers of cold air :) ).
The rooms are on the small side but have plenty of charm and storage room.. the bathroom is ok... Very comfy bed and temperature control is great.
The lounge and "salon" are gorgeous and every afternoon they offer sweets and canapes; and they are very tasty.. alcohol is not free (they could however open 2 bottles of wine an evening; it won't break the bank and will be a nice gesture when you are paying 500$ a night). I wish there was a fireplace in the inner lounge by the windows overlooking the river.
The spa is beautiful yet small. Great Sauna, jacuzzi and steam room.. Enjoyed it a lot after a day of skiing.
They give discount vouchers for ski rentals.
Few remarks to management: 1. Housekeeping is not up to pare with your 5 starts. They don't replenish the toiletry.. I used the cream the 1st day and they NEVER changed it over 5 days. They seem to be a little nonchalant; some stains were not cleaned well. Replenishing the tea and coffee was also inconsistent. 2. Be clear about the coffee policy in the morning. Few days it was offered for free and one day I was charged. 3. Breakfast is not worth in my opinion the 25 E a person. You can do better at least in the quality and variety of food you serve. 4. Spa also was not well attended to; at 6pm, peak hour there was not hot water to enjoy the tea..

Located in the center of town, close to Chamonix Station, Aiguille du Midi cable car station, and Le Brevent cable car station. This hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are many French, Italian, Chinese, and Swiss restaurants in the surrounding area, so you will not have any trouble finding a place to eat dinner. However, the famous restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide require reservations, so we visited casually and were turned down. The beds and bedding were clean and comfortable. The bathtub and washbasin were also well polished. There was a water leak from the base of the hand shower in the bathtub. As for the bidet, the hot and cold water did not mix, and the left end was extremely hot, so we could not use it. The spa, including the jacuzzi, sauna, and pool, helped us to relax after a long day. Breakfast starts at 7:30, but they changed it to 7:00 to suit our schedule, which was very helpful. There was a wide variety of food and it was delicious.

A very nice experience in this five-star family hotel. Cozy and elegant style. A very pretty little terrace by the river.
We had the nice surprise of being upgraded to wooden suite number 600, in the tower. We had some apprehensions about the heat in August, but it was very good.
You can access it by elevator, go down to the 5th floor and go up one floor on foot. We have a little girl and it hasn't been a problem at all.
This suite is splendid, all in wood, refined and full of charm with a splendid jacuzzi inside. The windows reveal breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, waking up in the morning is a dream. This room is ideal for a family or a couple.
Little ones are welcome, our daughter had a very pretty bed with beautiful children's sheets.
The only improvement would be to install a Nespresso machine.
Finally, the team at reception is wonderful, attentive and has a lot of information to share about the region. A special note on Alexandra with whom I had great pleasure chatting in Spanish. 5 star service.
Bravo to this hotel that we will not forget!

For the last part of our Honeymoon we stayed 3 nights at The Grand Hotel des Alpes in Chamonix! The staff went out of their way to make our experience perfect! From the location to their vast knowledge of the local ski resorts to the private shuttles to our beautifully maintained room we were so happy with our stay! We will return for sure! Kevin & Tara

There are hotels sprinkled around the world that not only offer a great guest experience in a desirable location but also bring a smile to your face when you think back upon your visit. This fine hotel is an example of this.
Located in the core of the city yet quiet and comfortable. The staff is beyond friendly they actually came out and found us when we were lost looking for the hotel.
The rooms we had were perfect for our needs and I would highly recommend this as a stop on your journeys. We were in town for 3 days which I wish had been 7 but rest assured if you select this property you will be pleased. And the hotel has great relations with several ship and restaurants in town allowing you to enjoy the best the community has to offer being treated as a Vip in those locations as well.

We stayed at this hotel the night before our TMB hike began and again the night that we completed the hike. Both stays were wonderful. One night, our room faced the street and on a Saturday night was slightly noisy, but still very nice. Another night we stayed on the river side and it was much more peaceful. The breakfast spread is incredible. So many options (meats/cheeses, coffeecake and breads, yogurt and cereals, fruit, eggs made to order, and additional hot items (eggs and bacon). The concierge /front desk was extremely helpful securing dinner reservations - one with advance notice and one with no notice - and activity recommendations.
All around a great hotel!!

I spent a lot of time researching where to stay and I’m so happy we decided to stay here. The staff is absolutely amazing. They really went out of there way to genuinely take care of us. Giulia was so sweet and helpful. But really everyone was. The rooms look just like the pictures. We had plenty of room to unpack all of our clothing. We had three rooms and they all faced the river. Since the rooms are not air conditioned, we slept with the windows open and were very comfortable. I was concerned about not having air conditioning, but the February weather kept our room very cool at night. In the mornings we shut the window and our room was cozy warm. My son’s room had only a shower that was spacious but only one sink and I didn’t see a bidet. Our room had the tub/shower combination with two sinks and a separate bidet. The tub is very small and narrow so I don’t imagine anyone really being able to soak in it. Bring your own blow dryer because the one they provide isn’t very good. That would be my only complaint. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. I was happy that they didn’t have feather pillows, but they made provide it. Breakfast had lots of options that included fruit, cereal, all types of bread including gluten free, cheese, cold cuts, yoghurts, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, omelettes and crepes. The woman that takes care of you at breakfast is really cheerful and delight to talk to. The hotel is in the middle of all the action and you’re surrounded by shops and restaurants. The hotel can make all of your dining reservations ahead of your trip. I would suggest setting up any ski lessons ahead of time because they fill up quickly. As a non skier they helped me set up different activities and transportation to and from the activities. Ask them for recommendations. If you have time take a trip into the Aosta valley in Italy. Only about an hour away and beautiful Roman ruins. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else when we come back.

Wonderful weekend in a superb hotel. I recommend for lovers, it's really very romantic. The hotel is RIGHT in the city, I loved going out to the shopping street and eating in the small local restaurants. Our Mont-Blanc suite was sumptuous and we had a view of the torrent - I thought that the noise of the torrent would bother me but in the end that was not the case at all, on the contrary, it was as if it was raining loud and it was calming. The spa is a little small and the sauna as well, but sufficient for a small person's desire to swim in the pool. The staff is great! Adorable. In short, a very nice getaway, we will come back.

The hotel is centrally located on the pedestrian promenade with really helpful staff and a lovely lobby. The breakfast buffet (which costs extra) was amazing, a really great selection plus made-to-order items. Comfortable bed, wifi worked great. Some rooms face the promenade and some rooms face the river. The river is loud, but it has a white noise effect that makes it easy to sleep. The rooms facing the promenade are fun with a great view but very loud with street noise. The room got quite warm at night, fyi.
