This hotel has a character with nicely decorated rooms , beautiful views and a super convenient location. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast quality good. It suffers on infrastructure as the elevator is not working and the internet is also mostly non usable. The balcony with its view compensates for these problems up to a certain level.
I was lucky enough (well, it was more than luck; I planned it) to stay in the Hôtel la Résidence du Vieux-Port for the fête nationale (July 14), so I got to see the parade, the jets with their tri-color trails, the parachutists and the amazing fireworks while nursing a pastis on my balcony overlooking the Vieux-Port. Beyond this peak experience, I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. The location is great for exploring Marseille (an historic, lively, multicultural city you need to know), the rooms are a good size, the midcentury design is fun and the staff are always helpful and friendly. (I didn’t opt for the breakfast so I can’t comment on that.) Highly recommended, even without the fireworks!
Great stay . The room was fairly basic but very clean. we were blown away by the view. We greatly enjoyed our dinner in the hotel restaurant . Housekeeping staff were charming as was the male receptionist who smilingly and effectively dealt with our complicated questions as to to get our car in and out of the carpark during road closures . Many thanks to all the team. We look forward to our next visit.
We enjoyed our two night stay at La Residence Marseille. The location is excellent with great views of the city, port and old town of Marseille. The Junior Suite was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom. The breakfast was very good. Make sure that your room is one of the renovated rooms when you check in.
We reserved a “Junior Suite” as did the couple traveling with us. They were put into a refurbished room which looked like the pictures on the website. Our room did NOT resemble the pictures and was in need of significant improvements. No shower in room and tub required significant effort to climb into (30 inch step up into tub) with no grab bar to get into and out of tub. Bathroom was extremely dated. The door handle to the door to the patio came off in our hand when we tried to close the door. The patio door would not lock at all. Internet on our floor was intermittent at best with long periods of no access at all. Air conditioning struggled to keep room cooled. Second room in back of “junior suite” was extremely out of date and very dingy with very little usefulness. Breakfast was fair but mostly unappetizing. Attempts to get updated room within an hour of checking in were met with “sorry, nothing we can do as we are full”. Very disappointed in experience in hotel. Would not recommend hotel in spite of good location and views of old port.…
This an extremely good position right on the port. We had double room with a port view on the second floor and there was no noise disturbance whatsoever. We only stayed for two nights but it was an extremely clean and comfortable hotel. We ate out both nights so I can't speak for the restaurant, although I do know they have a very good chef in house. We have stayed on the opposite side of the port previously but given a choice I would return to this side for convenience.
My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights on our honeymoon at the beginning of April, and we couldn't have found a more beautiful and welcoming place to begin our honeymoon! We had a view of the old port and upon our arrival the front desk staff was so friendly and couldn't say enough congratulations! Our first morning we decided to have our breakfast delivered for room service, and they were very timely to when we had asked for, and delivered a HUGE breakfast tray! The food was absolutely delicious too - and I am pretty picky about my breakfast foods. Honestly, it was probably one of the best, if not the best breakfast we had on our whole 2 week trip! Like some other reviewers mentioned, it is not close to the airport (but not many places are in Marseille), but it is located right in the heart of everything you would want to do in Marseille! We also found that an Uber ride was 42 Euros, compared to a taxi ride at almost 70! I have always wanted to come to Marseille ever since I was little, but knew it wasn't always known for being safe. I couldn't have asked for a better experience on my first trip to this city, and it all started with the wonderful staff and beautiful hotel!…
We stayed here for a weekend in April and we loved it, the view from the room was spectacular and the balcony was great for watching the world go by. The staff were so friendly and helpful, they recommended restaurants for us and even phoned to book us a table. The room was clean and spacious. Location is great, it is right in the heart of everything. My friend and I would highly recommend this hotel
This couldn’t be better for a short stay in one of Europe’s most vibrant, interesting and diverse cities. The rooms with balconies overlooking the old port offer stunning views, either through the floor to ceiling windows or at the little table on the terrace. Great for people watching while you reflect on a day’s walking or visiting galleries and museums. The rooms are very well equipped, quiet, comfortable and a decent size. The staff are friendly and very helpful (lots of advice on interesting areas to visit restaurants etc). We didn’t opt for the breakfast (pricey as in many hotels) but popped round to the streets behind the hotel for coffee and croissants in the local cafes.
Great location right on the old port. Taxi from airport was 70 Euros. Staff friendly and helpful. Based on previous TA reviews, I requested a room on the higher floors to avoid noise from the harbour at night. They put us on the very top floor – great views. The room was large and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had 2 basins, liquid soap and moisturiser and a hairdryer. Separate shower with good pressure which was great. Hook for my shower cap was on the wall – excellent. Two light bulbs had gone – one in the bathroom and one in the wardrobe area. Neither were replaced whilst we were there. We wondered why the cleaners had not noticed this? The handle fell off the bathroom door a couple of times but my husband was able to fit it back on. Breakfast was a buffet and was pretty good overall. Coffee was out of a machine and not so nice. For a 4 Star hotel I would have expected proper coffee. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Quick word on Marseille itself – there is quite a bit to do but we struggled to find enough restaurants around the old port. It looks like there are a lot but most of them are just bars and many are outdoor seating only. It was actually quite chilly so we didn’t want that but preferred to sit down to a proper meal in a proper restaurant inside. We found a couple of good ones but not much else. You would need to look in other areas of Marseille I think.…
