Cocteau-esque inspired prints ans soft Azurean touches in a well located unsinspiring externally edifice. The reception articulate, firm and in excellent communication terms both in transfering advice and in language command. Rooms appreciated space-wise but not unduly. The crystal vert-mousse of the bathromm added character and the apparatus design functioning was of good caliber. It was an ad hoc choice worth to be considered by the more prudent and calculated travellers.

Wonderful hotel! Best room in the hotel – top floor (one of two sea facing top floor suites) with a very large balcony; south and west facing for amazing sea, beach, old town, and sunset views. Positives + Excellent location – on waterfront (across the street from the beach and water); at the east end of the boardwalk stretch with beach clubs; about a 10 minute walk to the marina and old town and a 12 minute walk to the Italian border (which you just walk through without having to stop). From the Napoleon, you can walk easily to all of the old town and “new” town commercial area and on the waterfront pedestrian sidewalk path all the way west through Roquebrun and to Cap Martin with incredible views. There is a grocery store across the street from the hotel and plenty of restaurants within an easy walk. + Top floor suites have floor to ceiling sea facing windows with auto blinds that create privacy; you can see out but no one can see in. The balcony is very large with lounge chairs, a table and chairs, an awning, and incredible views. + Suite is spacious, although the entry hallway is a lot of wasted space. Good storage space in large closets with shelves and hanging space. + Long built in counter is good for storage space; we had to use this for our carryons and one suitcase as there is only one luggage rack and nowhere else to put suitcases so you can live out of them. + Small frig has space to store your own stuff; and free bottles of water are replaced daily. + bathroom has good counter space; good water pressure (although the water never got hot but was always only lukewarm at best – we told them about this when we checked out). A large tub is placed under the window (with the privacy blinds, you can see out but no one can see in). + Breakfast is a good value at only 14 euros; good sliced protein, variety of breads and pastries, fresh fruit, and a very pretty back garden in which to sit. + Beach and pool towels are complimentary + there is a pool and a little gym Negatives Shower water never got hot; was always only lukewarm at best. We told them about the need to fix this when we checked out. - It took a long time to get the room cleaned; housekeeping staff has been hard to find and retain across the hospitality industry in 2022 but this was a longer wait than most hotels. We would find the housekeeping person before leaving the room to let them know we were out and it was a good time to clean but we would find that they would not get to the room until late in the afternoon. - The “clean my room / do not disturb” cardboard door handle hangar ALWAYS fell off of the door handle every time you closed the door and we thought maybe that is why our room was so late to be cleaned. We finally attached it with a rubber band but the housekeeping person removed the rubber band every day which was annoying. - There is only 1 luggage rack which is a huge inconvenience – when will hotels realize that two people have two suitcases and need two luggage racks?! - The bed was very hard.

This is a nice hotel. Good service, clean and well maintained. But on the 2. November at 21:00 the were a fire alarm. As I could see most guests of the hotel went outside the building. During this evacuation there were no information provided to the guests and it is clear that there were no routines. A guest asked if they could return to their room and the reply was « it`s up to you» This is far from being acceptable. There should be established fire routines handling these situations.

Response from Matthew Likierman, Propriétaire at Hotel Napoleon
Responded Nov 3, 2022
Good morning. The fire alarm was set off in the kitchen due to an overcooked snack, with no actual fire! This was immediately known by the reception staff, hence the instruction that people could return to their rooms as there was no danger. Unfortunately, fire regulations mean that we have no way of stopping the alarm sounding for 5 whole minutes once it is set off... I wish we could switch it off in this kind of situation, but unfortunately not, and this can lead to apparent confusion. FYI all our staff are regularly trained in alert, early suppression and evacuation procedures in case of fires, and the local fire department have also done full-scale evacuation exercises at the hotel to be fully prepared if the worst did happen...

Well-maintained hotel with seaviews. Exceelent bar area and pool. Rooms are modern, only gripe I had, was that there was no mirror near natural light/in bedroom. Breakfast is perfectly adequate and can be taken in a courtyard garden. Staff are not the most welcoming. On arrival I used my intermediate level French, but the receptionist would have clearly seen I was struggling with aspects of the conversation. I didn't feel I could ask for local tourist recommendations such as restaurants and therefore had an indifferent experience on the first very wet weather night, having also never been in Menton before. Didn't endear us to the place. Plus no welcone drink of fresh lemonade either. Personal gripe of mine with hotels that advertise something on arrival and it's rarely forthcoming! Just DON'T!!!! At checkout, again no interest shown by receptionist on whether we enjoyed our three night stay. Disappointing all-round on service front. Night porter was helpful though.

We had a sea view room with a balcony. The road is extremely busy and therefore very noisy. Didn’t really stop us sleeping. The bed was very hard and really uncomfortable. However, the room was kept extremely clean, nicely decorated. Small bathroom but pleasant with a good shower. The soft drinks in the mini-bar were topped up every day as were the tea and coffee. The pool area is small but nice to sit round We found the breakfast very expensive for what it was and only had it there once. Our only real gripe was that you cannot get fresh made hot food. The hot food on the menu says it is frozen, so we assume it’s brought in and microwaved. All the staff were very polite, helpful and professional. The very short lady behind the bar makes the absolute best hot chocolate!

We stayed for a week at the Napoleon Hotel exploring the town from this great seafront location. Menton is a great place; lively and busy, but not too much. A great old town to explore with loads of bars and restaurants and miles of great beach with a choice of beach bars and public spaces. There are also two marinas to wander around where you can see how the other half live! The Napoleon Hotel is just on the edge of town close to the Garavan Marina which is my view is the best side of town to be on. The hotel is furnished dedicated to Jean Cocteau and is contemporary in design. We had a sea facing room with a balcony on the fifth floor. Concerns about noise from the road at the front proved unfounded as the door worked well and the air conditioning was excellent. Lower down the noise may be an issue for some and the hotel does overlook a busy road junction. Beyond the road there is a great view down to the old town one direction and the Italian border in the other. There are several restaurants in the close by Garavan Marina and in the other direction five or six beach bars/restaurants. You can also take the short walk up to the old town where there are loads of bars and restaurants. The hotel doesn’t offer a full restaurant but the breakfast was excellent and various snacks are available throughout the day. The public areas are delightful and the pool at the front a great facility. The best thing about the hotel were the staff who were, without exception friendly and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommended both Menton and the Hotel Napoleon they are a great combination for a fabulous holiday.

Visited in April 2022 The view from the suite per the website in reality was a very narrow look at the town of Menton. On the first night there was insuffient bedding. The decor of the room was gradually improved over my 10 day stay. Breakfast was poor. Cleaning was provided by untrained staff. One day the toilet was not cleaned. There was a dead lizard on the floor between the couch and the window. Is it still there? Never again!

The Hotel Napoleon is the perfect place to stay in Menton. It’s located across the street from a small public beach. It’s close to the wonderful bars, restaurants and shopping of Old Town Menton. It’s also a short walk to the SNCF train station giving you easy access to the entire Côte d’Azur. Amenities in the hotel are simple yet functional. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and the quaint little bar in the reception area is lovely. Best of all the staff was wonderful offering recommendations, directions and towels to take to the beach. Given the reasonable rates, you get a lot of bang for the euro at Napoleon. Highly Recommend!!!!

We stayed here for six nights as part of an organised tour and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was very conveniently located, and had very friendly and welcoming staff. We were slightly worried by the main road in front of the hotel but in reality it was not nearly as noisy as we feared - there are traffic lights just by the hotel which tends to slow the traffic down!! The rooms are comfortable and well decorated, with an emphasis on Jean Cocteau... There is an excellent bar with charming bar staff.

One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at. It may be 4 star but the friendliness and efficiency of the staff was 5 star all the way. The hotel is quite small so you always feel like you are getting attention. Bar and wait staff went above and beyond. We didn't always stay for breakfast preferring to check out different places, but had lunch and snacks and they were always good. Also the best Hugo Spritz Cocktail in Menton in my opinion. Can't wait to go back again. Perfectly located across the road from the beachfront and a large supermarket and loads of restaurants, about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Menton. I went with my family and my husband and kids loved it. The pool area is really nice and the garden out the back is nicely shaded when it gets too hot. Would highly recommend.
