Chateau de la Chèvre d'or is a very special hotel in a truly unique location on the French Riviera set high up above the sea in the medieval village of Eze. The views in this hotel are honestly some of the best I've ever seen. We have stayed here as a couple and as a family with our three daughters quite a few times (we just can't resist when we come to this area of France). The service is faultless !
On this particular stay in July this year, we were upgraded to the most spectacular suite which we just adored - we were on a trip to celebrate our anniversary and it was so special !
We had dinner in the Gastronomic restaurant which once again was phenomenal ! The service, the food, the ambience - all perfection !
I always recommend to friends and will most definitely be back !

The setting of the hotel is superb, with wonderful views over Cap Ferrat and the Mediterranean and within a mediaeval village. The service is first-class, as befits a top hotel. There's a wonderful buffet breakfast and high quality dining, even in Les Remparts, which is not the two-star Michelin restaurant. The swimming pools may be small, but again the location is wonderful, and there are plenty of comfortable sunbeds in secluded corners. Highly recommended - if you can afford it!

Firstly on location the hotel on top of Eze Village is breathtaking the views are exquisite! If you are traveling with someone older, I was traveling with my mum the hotel is maybe not the best for you with many many stairs.

The staff were all so friendly and helpful especially the men at the luggage section they were always up for a chat.

Facilities wise the hotel was wonderful, the pools were perfect. Only downside from my perspective was the room, it was very light and bright, no black out curtains. Bathroom was on the first floor of the room and bedroom was upstairs, again terrible for traveling with older people. Otherwise the room was huge, beautiful view from the bathroom.

Great location and friendly staff. It is disappointing that the room service menu is very poor and not updated to reflect what is actually available and especially what is available from 10pm, which is more like what you get in a 3 star hotel. This is in stark contrast to what they offer in the restaurants at the same time ( one of them has 2 Michelin Stars). They knew I was gluten free but there was nothing appetising to eat on the menus or at breakfast. Room service brought normal bread each time even when they knew. The larger expensive suites are probably not occupied a lot as there is a stale water smell in the bathroom. The one you get when pipes are not run enough. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told here was nobody available and they had gone home...I had to email the CEO and even then nothing was resolved I was just told he would talk to me in the morning (when I will have likely left) . I would say a perfect dreamy place to stay in a normal room or basic suite so long as you don't expect too much food veriety on the room service menu and enjoy the restaurants instead. The mini bar is lacking in typical drinks and snacks you would expect in a top end 5 star hotel and they should leave more water in the suite each day. The massage treatments we had were great although we had to walk through a busy restaurant to go to and from the treatment rooms which is not ideal. I will day the room service server was very quick and attentive (albeit not empowered to offer anything outside the incorrect menu) but very good guy all the same. The front desk and bell boys gave quick and friendly service. In summary. they need to fix the small details to be able to justify the very expensive cost of the larger suites and compete with other properties near by. The location, staff and other amenities go a long way to making up for some of the defects though.

This hotel is known for their food, which you can enjoy by staying elsewhere and making a reservation. That’s what I’d recommend you do.
The rooms are surprisingly dated, especially given the prices.
We’re talking 70’s plastic jet tubs and zero character to the design and furniture.
That’s in contrast to the old world charm of the village and hotel itself.
It’s too much of a contrast to warrant paying the price to stay here. Eat here, walk the grounds but stay elsewhere.

We stayed one night but made the most of it by arriving early and staying late the next day. We went later in the season on a Monday night and were treated to an upgraded room with an amazing view. The 2 pools are very different and I prefferred the infinity one with the tree in the middle. Lounge chairs are scattered up and down the property which affords some privacy. The welcome drink at the bar is breathtaking and I could never tire of the view . Well worth a visit, even if a bit of a challenge to reach since it is a medieval village on top of a rock.

We checked in with friends visiting us in France. We arrived around noon and thought it would be nice to enjoy lunch at the property once we saw how charming it looked. The hostess informed us they had a high-top bar table "take it or leave it" were her words, not mine. I thought that she was a bit brusk saying that but we agreed. We walked to the patio and the restaurant was about 1/3 full. The staff in the restaurant was much more accommodating and moved us to a table after a bit. The lunch was very nice. We were a bit taken aback by the hotel not saving any tables for hotel guests last minute or not. We made plans to meet our friends at the same spot in the evening before dinner in their Michelin restaurant. We were walking up to meet our friends and they were leaving saying they were told they could not save seats and they had to vacate!! We were astonished that paying guests were not allowed to sit when tourists from outside the hotel are allowed to take over the place. The whole bar was full of people not staying at the hotel!! We normally love Relais & Chateaux but this whole experience was new to us. The whole place is like a Disneyland for Americans!! We wanted and expected something a bit more romantic and were very disappointed. A gentleman did finally find 4 seats for us after my husband had a meltdown over the service. We were just expecting something much different from what we got. We will never return. The "working" staff was very nice but the problems come from management obviously. They have no concern or regard for guests of the property. It is survival of the fittest!!

Thank you very much for your feedback. We appreciate it. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectation. We do try to accommodate all of our guests and this is why we ask on all our booking confirmations for our hotel guests to book any lunch or dinner in advance to avoid any disappointment once on site. Indeed during the pick season our restaurants are on high demand and space is limited. Of course our hotel guests are our priority, but we need to also consider the guests that have reserved ahead of time, although they are not staying at the hotel. It is the same at the bar, as many visitors want to stop for a drink. We do have to find the balance each day between visitors and hotel guests while space is limited. We are sorry if obviously we were not able to do that the day of your visit. We are pleased to hear however that our staff tried to accommodate you the best they could and find solutions although it was not the experience you expected. We hope to have another opportunity to welcome you and meet your expectation as we do care very much for our guests and want the best for them. Best Regards,

Having lived along the coast in RCM for 18 years and have visited the village of Eze on many occasions, we knew of the Chateau de la Chevre d’Or. Well we thought we did! Rarely have we been so overwhelmed by an experience as by this hotel. Truly one of the greatest hotel stays of our life. We took a junior suite with terrace and sea view for two nights. We were blown away by this experience - even though it’s just 15mins by car from where we live and we have a sea view - this hotel is quite remarkable. Breathtaking. It was going to be a tick on the hotel bucket list, now it’s firmly on a must return ASAP list 👍. We had lunch in their restaurant twice, a tapas type meal in their bar next door and a wonderful evening in their champagne bar. When we return it will be to dinner at their two star Michelin restaurant set above the bar. We had breakfast both mornings on our terrace over looking the sea. Acres and acres of gardens to walk through with numerous sculptures. Two amazing swimming pools. If in covid times (or any other) you are looking for the ultimate
bubble of tranquility, luxury and calm, this place is it. As my wife has just added its ‘dreamy’ which sums it up perfectly.

Everything at Chèvre D’Or feels a bit fussy and outdated, especially the restaurant with the 2 Michelin stars. Dowdy. And the food is good but not great and definitely not worth the fuss and the price. The rooms could use some freshening up. (Scratched tables, rotting wood and rust on the terraces, etc..).
But in the end, none of that matters because this hotel offers the best views on the Cote D’Azur. Especially my room, offering a 180 degree view from two sides and a view on the pool. Really one of the most beautiful vistas I’ve ever experienced.
One night was enough, but oh what a night.

Undoubtedly one of the more beautiful and interesting medieval hotels I've ever stayed in. Exquisite views, beautiful rooms, sensational food BUT(!)... don't go towards the end of their season as their standards slip in what i assume was down to operating with limited staff numbers.

I booked in for two nights on the 13th & 14th October (two weeks before they close).

When we arrived in the taxi we were not greeted by anyone and I ended up having to drag 3 suitcases up the huge hill to reception for my elderly mother and my girlfriend. I know this isn't the end of the world as I am relatively fit, but not the service level you would expect from The Chevre d'Or.

What was more disappointing was how unkempt and untidy the hotel grounds were. There were plastic bottles lying around in the bushes in several places, the bathing towels were left on the floor by the pool and on sunbeds without being tidied away for hours, and there were no staff around to ask for a drink, it was like a ghost town. It really had the feeling that they were closing down early and that they wanted to go home for the winter.

The Jacuzzi was strangely out of order during our stay and when i asked for help locating the sauna the young man in reception VERY reluctantly had to show me where it was having sent me to the wrong place in the first instance. The staff at the reception were sadly not very welcoming or forthcoming.

In short, an amazing hotel but beware at the end of the summer, standards slip.

Yes- I did back in October of 2022 though---I was disappointed- very expensive but not the variety or robust taste that I was expecting. Their breakfast buffet is excellent however the dinner was a let down honestly. The view is spectacular but perhaps gets leaned on in terms of overall review and taste. there is a little informal place called Deli much higher up the stairs that has wonderful food and a passionate staff-- they also have an olive oil store there and you can get some olive oil tastings---better and without the attitude.

For a person with mobility problems is it possible to get a taxi to the hotel
Answer from linda3cats2014
Hampshire, United Kingdom6 contributions4 helpful votes
Yes re the taxi, but there are lots of steps to the various terraces and cobbled uneven paths/roads inside the hotel grounds too. The rooms are the old houses on the medieval streets and ours had a steep marble staircase to the upper floor (bathroom downstairs and bedroom uostairs). They have some specially adapted rooms though. It is a fabulous hotel (the best I have ever stayed jn) but with mobility issues you may not get the full benefits. i hope this helps.

Hi. We're due to attend a wedding here in September. Is this hotel child friendly?
Answer from BradC
Hoover, Alabama148 contributions77 helpful votes
I agree with what the others have said. I’m not sure this place was designed with small children in mind. Strollers would be fine in and around the main hotel but wandering the medieval town would not be a stroller friendly experience. Grade school children on the other hand would probably have a blast with all of the places to roam and wander about. All of that aside, I must say that I think this would be an incredible place for a wedding. I've never been to venue more perfectly suited for a wedding. The vistas and surroundings are breathtaking.
